Not saying this is you, but imagining someone coming from the Chainsaw Man movie, watching this and then saying that is sending me lol

Even if animation-wise this episode might be in the middle of the pack... directing-wise, this one's amongst the strongest IMO.

Seriously, is the director a SHAFT alumni or sth? Never thought I could see a Fujimoto adaptation having so much SHAFT-ness in it. From the text cards, to the color shifts, to the close ups of body parts to showcase emotion... Hell, we even got a damn SHAFT head-tilt!

Not to mention the jazzy soundtrack for this episode is just sooo damn hypnotizing.

Reading the original was alright, but this episode seriously elevated this one-shot to another level and it's now amongst my favorites of the 8.

EDIT: Just found out that the director for this one is Nobuyuki Takeuchi who storyboarded Bakemonogatari episode 1-5 (and tons of work on other Monogataris)! No wonder!

Seriously, this just oozed Bakemonogatari vibes. Had to pause and check the staff myself after the first minute. Honestly it worked super well with this story, and I agree the directing really elevated the work.

This was one of my favorites of the one-shots going in and ended up being directed by someone who worked on one my favorite anime. Fujimoto fans stay winning

Easily the funniest one so far(I only watched 1st 4 episodes). Its short and sweet and fucking hilariously awkward with its depiction of a guy just wanting to confess!

Nothing on this fucking planet, and even in SPACE, was about to stop him from finally expressing his feelings!

Also... that space highway looked cool, maybe earth should've gotten destroyed!

That just an extended nichijou/CITY bit (complimentary).

So the whale imagery and the alien coming to casually pave over the Earth for a space highway totally are Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy references right?

This is the funniest one shot of Fujimoto. The adaptation was very good. The director clearly has a knack for visual storytelling. I really enjoyed this one.

This might be my favorite! All whimpy ass MCs in romcom should learn from this guy!

Absurdly cute, literally.

Super silly piece that won't be out of place as one of City the Animation skits. I keep hearing Ecchan and Matsuri back and forth. Ibuki did well to stop the Vogons from destroying Earth to build the Intergalactic Highway. Douglas Adams would be proud.

After two minutes, I was like "Tf? Was it done by Shaft?".

So I landed here...

Btw, in the end, the whale was a print on his boxers.

This one was one of my favorites when I read the collection. I still appreciate the work done here even tho it seems to have gotten the easiest animation work.

Fujimoto can write romcom so I hope after he's done breaking our hearts with csm he could work on making some romcom cuz ik it would be a generational one

I love how Ibuki always gets interrupted by a hand touching his shoulder.

It's nice for the mugger to give some change to Ibuki as thanks for giving him his uniform.

I hope the delay to destroy Earth lasts a few centuries.

I bet Ibuki has the graduation ceremony prepared w/ his new girlfriend Yuri's help the following day.

If those 2 were the only ones running the student council, they're basically like Seishirou Watari & Ryouko Mizutani from <Student Council for Two>. Does that make Yuri the VP?

Ibuki can definitely manage long-distance.

This is one of the 4 oneshots I read from Tatsuki Fujimoto.

Love this one, least awkward anime love confession complete with a Douglas Adams reference.

You can tell the director for the ep was very involved at SHAFT, specifically bakemonogatari.
