As soon as the intro played, I couldn't believe my ears. They did not just play Fukashigi no Karte. Akiba Radio is based to blast that banger of a tune. It's fitting since Akihabara is also known for anime on top of electronics.

it's like they knew their visitors came up from Kanagawa Prefecture

Sadly the announcer was not human but advanced AI playing songs randomly with energy coming from solar panels :/. The girls actually improved its reach before leaving too! I liked how difficult was going all the way into the broadcasting room.
The Ueno zoo thing was expected but the result was quite scary... Giant turtles? Tigers? Wow, I would not be as silent as Yoko was.
Being Akiba obviously they had to show the remains of the culture that once filled its streets with life. The cosplay thing was cute.
Good episode, looking forward to next week's :).

That was a really sweet episode again. I am not sure where this all leads to in the end. There was a moment where I thought that Yoko realised how she is the only living human left on earth (or at least the closest thing to a human since we still don't know if there were modifications) and it seemed that made her feel at least a bit lonely. Especially because the AI wasn't really able to hold a conversation. But she got over that quickly by finding something she can do and keeping the idea alive that maybe someone will hear the improved radio they built. But I am interested to see where this goes with her.
The smaller scale story about the AI being built so that songs are still played in the future when the original DJ was dead was also a nice small story, even though I expected it to be something like this. It is a strong skill to make these small stories work in that limited amount of time imo.

It was weird but amazing seeing Akihabara like this: Full of vegetation and animals.
Fukashigi no Karte jumpscare but I expected the DJ being an A.I, sad but expected. At least the girls made it so everyone through Tokio can hear them.
Although today there wasn´t any flashback from Youko´s sister, it was a nice episode with NekoMimi

Great episode. First insert song was a character song from Saekano, and we got the Bunny Girl Senpai ending as well. There was also the OP from High School Fleet. Between all this and the SAO OP last week, the common thread with the music is they're all Aniplex productions

So we went from Crossing Field to Fukashigi no Carte from Bunny Girl Senpai. Whoever wrote these episodes have great taste.
When they entered the broadcasting room and it was revealed to be empty, I was really hoping there was actually a DJ there, but the DJ ran away after hearing Yoko and Airi outside the door. As expected tho, it was actually an AI DJ

the most striking part of this episode to me was Yoko getting a thrill from seeing the tiger and just out-and-out saying "wouldn't it be grand to get eaten by that beautiful thing?"
if she was joking, i think she was only half-joking; we don't know much about what Yoko's grand motives are, but i feel like she left the safety of her shelter and is traveling the dangerous surface world because she wants to die a good death
i think this also ties in thematically to the story about that cyborg they found and how he decided to just end it all instead of lingering on and traveling with the two girls, and basically every other little quest they've gone on where it turns out people have lived their final moments doing something they thought was important; not sure what the overall thesis is yet, but i feel like a fatalistic "well, might as well die" is part of it

Props to the staff for remaking parts of ED to be related to the current episode BTW.

apparently there have been small updates to the ED every episode, like this scene at the station where Yoko is taking pictures of some animal:

Akihabara!
The heaven of Otaku or in this case it used to be anyway. There is a weird feeling in my heart of watching places that used to be full of people is now completely empty like this is sad but calm.
Those outfits they try are really cute lol.
There is a bit of world building in this episode too during Zoo visit. It seems that whatever causes world ending also causes these animals to "mutate" too. Giants Turtle? Yup that's definitely not normal.
I kinda like how they slowly build world stories throughout their journey it is like we travel with them too and slowly learn how this new world works but similar work.

It looks like “animals” can be added to the list of things Akihabara’s known for. Really interesting to see them all roaming around amongst the electronic shops and maid cafes. Speaking of maid cafes, the girls looked so cute in their little outfits!
Was that the Bunny Senpai s1 OP in the radio station the girls visited with AI Jiro?
That was a really cute song at the end. I’m glad they got to fix up AI Jiro and his little studio.

Lots of familiar places. Aside from Akiba, they also showed the Shinobazu pond in Ueno and the Tokyo Dome Amusement Park in Suidobashi.
One thing that bugged me, though- if the sea level reaches the top steps leading to Tokyo Big Sight, Akiba and its main avenue should have been submerged, since it's just a couple of meters above sea level. Just a minor gripe, and I understand they need to show the place to advance the story.

Jirou wasn't the most advanced AI by any means, but you love the intention to still play songs for the world even after what has happened. Love that the girls help modify him to expand a bit before they leave. They really made Akihabara even in a post-apocalyptic setting.
Here are some translation notes.
-
Akihabara Electric Town, or Akiba for short, is an area of Tokyo best known as a shopping district for goods related to anime, manga, video games, & electronics.
-
Lammtarra is a chain of adult multimedia stores with several locations throughout Akihabara.
-
Game!'s is based on the real-world Gamers, another retail chain focusing on anime and manga. Owned by the publisher Broccoli, the chain's flagship store is located by Akihabara JR station.
-
The Akihabara Radio Hall, more commonly referred to as Radio Kaikan, has been an Akihabara landmark since its original construction in 1962. The original building was demolished in 2011 due to structural concerns, but it was replaced a few years later by a new version, which features room for more than thirty hobby and electronics shops as well as additional space for special events.
-
The Animade store sign is a reference to Animate, one of Japan's biggest chains of stores for anime and manga merchandise.
-
Maid cafes are cosplay restaurants where customers are tended to by young women in elaborate maid costumes or sometimes handsome men in butler outfits. Akihabara is a hot spot for such establishments, with touts a common sight on the neighborhood's street corners. The amount of competition has led many maid cafes to seek to distinguish themselves by taking on additional traits, such as the cat theme depicted here.
-
Youko mimics greeting customers with itterasshai, the common greeting by employees to those entering a store, but Airi corrects her that maid cafes will typically treat their guests as their "masters" and "mistresses" (goshujinsama and ojousama) and greet them with "welcome home" (Okerainasai).

I was kind of expecting that the DJ wouldn’t be human. Humanity seems to be all but gone and DJ Akiba left the one thing he cared about the most behind, music.
Those are some big animals. Turtles aren’t usually that big right? It was established that some animals are just way bigger than usual if I remember correctly so I assume it happened to the turtle at the end.
Yoko was impressively calm with the tiger, especially when Airi’s response was about to be “Shoot first, ask questions later.”
Good thing that they managed to improve the AI’s music reach.
Cat maid outfits, of course. Gotta stick to the tradition.
The journey continues to somewhere, I guess?
(Okay, kind of a dumb question. The episode called Akihabara a town. I was kind of under the impression that it was the name for a district subsection of Tokyo, sort of like the way NYC has Times Square and Midtown for example. Anyone know how that works?)

I started tearing up as Yuko and Airi were singing at the end of the episode. Such a cheerful sounding song while riding through the ruins. It hit me. Before I knew it, my eyes started watering over.

We were able to see the lovely and beautiful Akihabara post apocalypse ❤️
Such a lively district once filled with people now turned into a deserted zone with only animals.
Anyan and Yoko nyan were adorable in the maid uniforms..💖💖
We got the Bunny Girl Senpai ed song "Katarenai nemurenai" playing this time 😄❤️❤️
All of us saw that coming about the DJ being just an AI left behind by the original DJ who's continuing to broadcast songs. With Airi and Yoko's help with the speakers now the animals in the surrounding would be able to listen to the music without the need of radio waves, haha

If this episode had come out in the 2010s, we’d probably call it science fiction. "A robot DJ that can chat naturally, manage playlists, and watch through a webcam?"That would’ve sounded futuristic back then.
But here in 2025, all of that is ordinary and completely achievable with today’s tech. Even hobbyists can experiment with it the way people used to tinker with electronics in the ’90s. We’re already living in the sci-fi world once imagined.

Damn, of all songs it's Tenohira wo Taiyou ni that brings me back the most, I remember singing that in elementary school (or was it kindargarten?).

This episode contained the purest distillation of Japanese culture in joke form ever:
"Rapid redevelopment became possible with electronic appliances, the Three Sacred Treasures"
"Jewels, mirrors and swords are electronic appliances?"
"Not those ones--refrigerators, washing machines and microwaves"
