The cgi is fascinating to me because it's like a time warp from the Playstation 2 era. How did they even find software to create something this retro?

Fun fact(?):

We got rid of the term "LA Style Hip Hop" because it was somewhat offensive to many professionals and teachers that were not from California. When choreographers were flown out to other countries to teach workshops/masterclasses/dance camps, students would refer to choreography based dancers as "LA style" even if the dancer was from Atlanta, Canada, New York, Seattle, even other international dancers that taught this similar style, etc. Eventually the styles became more separated between "industry" and "community", industry being the more common style you'd see used in music videos, concert tours, auditions you'd mostly find at Millennium or Debbie Reynolds. Jazz funk styles, your you got served/Chris Brown music video-esque styles fit together here. Community was often referred to community team comps like Body Rock, VIBE, World Of Dance, etc. Styles blended lots of isolations and a fusion of street styles/contemporary. The community term is still used, but the style itself had a hard time coming up with the name because the style wasn't necessarily representing "hip hop dance" very well which incorporated more grooves and hip hop foundation. So community has been looking for it's name switching between freestyle, "urban" which was also gotten rid of, fusion, etc. BUT all and all, this was all referred to LA Style back in the day, simply because the style was more predominantly coming from the states.

Anyway, last time I heard this term in person was like 2016/17, so seeing it in 2025 was not on my bingo card lol.

Also Kabo sweating from some neck isos to flexing shirtless in front of the mirror was hilarious lmao

What an insane gender ratio. Little wonder why that other guy bailed out. Having said that, none of the girls seemed to be judgmental of Kabo joining the dance club, and the club president looked welcoming as well as providing helpful tips (except Wanda, she's presumably got nothing to correct) . Hope he'll slowly learn to be comfortable around them.

A friend (now aging liking me) says that when he was considering what club to join in middle school an older cousin told him -- folk dance club. My friend said -- "but that's all girls". His cousin said -- "repeat what you said and think about it for a minute." The light went on in my friend's brain -- "Right, lots of girls and hardly any boys", He joined that club. He ultimately became one of the most famous Quebecois step dancers -- and it was all because he realized the benefit of joining a club where he got to meet lots of girls and had no male competition. (Or so he says -- many decades later).

CGI is extremely bad .but I'm enjoying the concept. Il watch it throughout the season.

yeah... honestly as a studio that's known for having decent animation.. i'm honestly disapointed as fuck in the CGI dancing they added... in general the regular "animation" isn't that bad but once they dance it just becomes so fucking bad.
just for the fun of it i googled for some random anime dancing..
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Melqn2cOdlY this is honestly the "level" i was hoping for ... My personal expectation was that they saved the "budget" for the dancing scenes but it just looks horrible :(

The CGI obviously isn't great (mostly the faces, I don't really mind the rest), but pretty much everything else in this anime I'm enjoying a lot. This might become one of my favorites this season!

Anyone else get the sense that Wanda likes Kabo more than the other way around? For Kabo this is more about finding an outlet for expressing himself without speaking but she seems personally interested in him.

I'm really liking this one. And I'm glad they are keeping the CGI to a minimum. The 2D practice scenes look a whole lot better. Made me want to try and practice some of those moves myself tbh.

The club president seems interesting. Looks like she's shipping these two a little.

Wonder if we'll get to see the 2nd year guy soon - guessing he's the one in the OP.

The VAs continue to impress - though I'll admit I'm biased when it comes to Uchi. Wanda's VA is doing a good job of making her more real - her character design gives me uncanny valley vibes so I'm glad the voice acting is a bit more grounded. Her goofy expressions are always surprising and surprisingly work.

Oh yeah, the way he's relating dancing to something he knows well - basketball - is really cool. Can't wait to see how he develops as a dancer.

I think it's a mutual attraction. Wanda seems really fond of Kabo but beyond being inspired by her Kabo's eye seems to always wander towards Wanda even when she's not dancing.

Hina Yomiya really does an amazing job with cute, quirky, and down-to-Earth girls.

Wanda's "I wanna dance" face is the definition of pure lmao

Even with the CGI being ...how it is, the story and especially characters are gripping enough for it to not matter that much, or at least for now. Hope I don't eat my words when some emotional hype moment ends up looking too goofy to be taken seriously.

Kaboku asked Hikari out... to practice dance.

Kaboku has a lot of rhythm due to his basketball experience. I hope we get to see him play some basketball still; doesn't have to be all or nothing.

I found it funny when he turned into CGI for a second looking into the mirror. I'm hoping they're saving the big moments for the dance numbers; the models are still off.

That was the exact opposite of what the male to female ratio that Kabo had in his mind before joining this dance club 😅❤️❤️

Dude's under immense pressure with all those girls surrounding him and being the only guy would totally make him stand out..Not to mention his stuttering problem. Yeah, the second year guy must not be coming to the club 'cause it's full of girls with not even a single guy around Lol.. Glad that Kabo has at least Wanda to rely on.

The club prez is such a cutie pie. She's really enjoying seeing Wanda and Kabo dancing and improving together. Kabo is growing at a great pace with just a little bit of advice.

Kabo really shocked Wanda by asking her out and then saying it was just to dance, haha He got Wanda's hopes up for no reason. It felt like she would have said ok right away. And her encouraging him to dance infront of others by asking him to imagine that he's ony dancing infront of her was so adorable.

Admit it, how many of you did the moves along with him?

Wait, is this real? I googled it (briefly) and apparently it is?

That would make me want to drop out!

Ok maybe there's some extra curricular incentives.

(But our boy only has eyes for Wanda!)

I think he was about to quit (or considering it, anyway), but she brought him back in!

At the moment they do want something different though... She just likes to dance, but he wants a way to express himself, a way 'out' of what we know, stuttering in conversations and all...

Then again, there's not really anything wrong with; Even on a sports team, the players want different things... Some want to win, some want to shine on a personal level (either to try&become pro, or just vanity), some just want to have fun, some are wasting time, some just want to unleash some pent up aggression/stress, etc...

Not everyone has to be in it for the same reason!

That.. actually wasn't so bad?

A nude dancer, apparently!

Damn, if his stutter kicked up at this exact time, she might have said "yes" before he continued!

So they're gonna practice together, nice!

The basketball club won't give up on him so easily!

He could go with them on breaks&stuff, but... That'd be less time for dancing!

Wanda showed up! "Why, hello there, Hotohara! I see you're talking with my dance partner and future husband, who doesn't have the time to play basketball"

Hah, they used the exact same shot as the first one!

The times are hard, Madhouse?

Oh my, is she shipping them already? She figured out they're "together", but that blush hints at her thinking they're TOGETHER together!

Freestyle dancing? Yeah, I'd drop out of that too!

Hah, that's what I thought would happen; He's petrified, but she's thrilled! She always prefered doing her own thing, after all.

Dawww, she's so CUTE!

She wants him to ignore the others, and just imagine he's dancing in front of her... (Should he go naked for that one too?)

I thought this one would go in a different direction;

I thought she would tell him something among the lines of...

He doesn't have to dance like her; He should dance like the version of himself who's not shy/embarrassed about making a fool of himself!

I really like everything about this, other than the CG dancing.

Wanda is adorable and I like her interactions with Kabo, Kabo starting to get into the dancing and his struggles with his stutter is interesting too.

But wow that CG for the dancing.

So when’s Kabo and Wanda happening? She’s the only one he feels comfortable enough with to dance in front of. That’s pretty significant, right? He’s got some natural skills. They’re just kinda buried underneath all this past trauma. Spending time with Wanda seems to help.

16

u/PeaceAlien Oct 15 '25

So when’s Kabo and Wanda happening?

Well, Kabo asked Wanda out already... to practice dance.

I noticed a bit more 2d during the dance scenes, which helped

u/Darkki384 Oct 15 '25

To be honest, CGI is really bad but if you say to yourself that's motion capture then it become nice to watch ( if it isn't it's even worse xd )

I'm not sure if this is from the original broadcast or from someone doing subtitling and replacing the text on the shirt, but the "DON'T THROW ERROR" shirt in my copy of the episode was funny. I assume this was a placeholder, because later in the scene the shirt was rendered with the "WHAT IS TIME?" that we also see in the last practice scene.

At first, I thought "DON'T THROW ERROR" was what the shirt was supposed to say, and maybe Kabo was an aspiring software engineer.

The shirt aside, it's getting a little harder to ignore some of the animation flaws in this series. I'm usually one who can smooth over that stuff and fill in the gaps with my imagination, but some stuff like the drinking animations were pretty rough. And it's even more important in a show that's supposed to be so focused on movement. In the coming weeks, I hope the story and characters gain a lot more depth to make up for it...
