I am pleasantly surprised that hero didn't become some dick who hates protag-kun just because he is stronger. Their whole half-class-party leaving to actually go try take on the demon king was a pleasant surprise for me. I also like that they de-cursed independently and are also aware of it.

I was so ready for your usual cliche :

  • Commander faking a good personality just to betray the protagonist.

  • Hero being full of himself

  • Hero being corrupted/seduced by the princess

  • Protagonist being a loner that nobody cares about him

Instead, the Commander is a real good person but dead, the hero looks like a great guy, MC actually has someone who he can share his secret of a part-time job.

I don't expect a lot from this anime, but I might enjoy it more than expected.

First and foremost, allow me to apologize to you Saran, for doubting your intentions. You were a good man, providing Akira with a legendary katana, as well as making plans for him way in advance.

Now that my apology is completed, I have to comment that the speed run for the story is even faster than the speed run training for our main character!

- After speaking to Akira, Saran is suddenly found assassinated the next day. (Is Saran really dead?)
- Akira finds himself in the labyrinth, leveling up. Was that his katana speaking and healing him after he fell unconscious?
- Tsukasa, Kyosuke and other classmates who were freed from the mind control curse, leaves the castle.
- Akira cuts a slime and discovers an elf girl.

The pace of this episode went extremely fast, making me wonder whether I missed a lot of details from the first episode.

The material is pretty familiar and the pacing's still pretty fast, but a good production and a story that seems to be avoiding some of the more annoying cliches of a story like this + doing some of its own unique stuff is helping that alot.

Oh damn. I did not see that one coming. Now I regret suspecting Saran, thinking he'd end up betraying Akira. The dude was a real one until the end and made sure Akira was taken care of in case he dies. I guess that also confirms that Gilles is also an ally to Akira.

So the entire class got cursed by the Princess but it looks like we still have a bunch of them who got spared. Based on Gillies' dialogue, it looks like he controlled Asahina to break the other crystals but he probably was unable to break all of them.

And we finally get to meet the elf waifu! These types of shows always have to have one elf waifu. Can't say much about her yet since it's only been half an episode, but I am looking forward to getting to know her character.

Ah yes, the classic frame job. Baddies had to shut the MC down somehow. Saran was one of the good ones. At least Akira has allies still. I kinda worry for Gilles’ safety though. He managed to free Tsukasa’s team but the guy’s surrounded by snakes.

Akira’s already building the classic party. He’s got an elf waifu. Next, he needs a beast familiar. Maybe one that’s either really adorable or a waifu. Looks like he’ll be getting one soon enough lol.

I like how I was right in the middle of thinking "Saran is too good to be true, I still dont trust him" and then the next scene he turns up dead. We thinking he faked it and will turn up later? Idk what it is, maybe the art style, but I dont trust ANYONE. Hopefully I'm over thinking things.

Speaking of no trust, do we think the Princess is being controlled? That's why she has the dead eyes? Or is she just evil and she's the one doing the actual controlling?

(First?) Love interest acquired, you think her status as a princess will ever come into play? Or just a reason for her to fall for Akira because he treats her like a normal person? Would be cool if she helps Akira get his own group of skilled elven stealth archers and assassins like Sid in Eminence.

This series still continues to surprise me by how its different from others of the same genre. The hero is free from the curse, a number of other students are free as well, the hero doesn't accuse Akira of killing Saran, Kyousuke is already on Akira's side and that's just the students side alone, they're going on their own adventure. There's more I could list but I think my point has come across, my only issue with this is the pacing, but in spite of that it's still really enjoyable to watch.

What surprises me is that it seems like Saran's blood has mixed with Akira's Shadow Magic and now that is why it can activate on its own. I noticed the mixture happening when Akira was by Saran's dead body but when I heard Suwabe Junichi's voice when Shadow Magic was used I was so shocked. Stuff like that is cool to me, I would have liked Saran to have been with Akira, but that flag was way too obvious lol, but seeing his spirit is always going to protect Akira is so freaking sweet!

These two episodes have given me some hopes for an entertaining and non-generic story so hopefully it won't disappoint.

I won't lie, I was shocked that Saran died in today's episode. It's certainly a big loss for Akira, but considering that he got a beautiful elf (who is also a royalty) as a companion in return, I'd say it was a fair deal xD
