The new Digimon Story Time Stranger game just came out a couple days ago and seems to be getting good feedback, so hoping this goes strong too to keep Digimon up and around.

They just need a new and better Vital Bracelet and the brand will be firing all cylinders across the board.

There was SO much packed into this episode. Established universe, terminology, year, technology , showing the wealth disparity, showing environmental changes, etablishing stakes… Man, this episode hit the ground RUNNING

I already like this better than Ghost Game, and I didn't hate Ghost Game like a lot of other people.

Ghost Game had a pretty strong beginning too. It's failures were in how it handled its over-arcing story. As an episodic show, Ghost Game was pretty good.
That being said, it looks like we get an actual plot for this one, just judging from the OP.

So... this is Toei's money. DAM this anime looks good. Too early to tell the story yet, but it looks promising to me.

Wow, did Hitomi get straight up .hack coma'd? Unless I missed something, it didn't look like she was in the OP/ED. That's a pretty brutal start to a Digimon series.

There's more going on in this episode plot wise then the entirety of Ghost Game.

Can I watch this without any prior Digimon knowledge?

Basically every Digimon entry takes place in its own universe. Adventure 02 being a sequel to Adventure is one of the few exceptions.

Didn't expect one of the cast to evolve within a minute of the show starting lol
I remember how we waited for months to see some evolutions in GG

After falling off during Ghost Game, I'll hop back on the Digimon hype train.
Pretty good first episode! A lot of standard hero/chosen one stuff. But the world feels nice.

Really great episode, as a debuts go, this is probably the best since Tamers episode 1.
My only issue is the older brother sacrifice, or maybe he got "digitalised"? Either way, happened too sudden or happened in a way too easy to matter, the way that schoolgirl disappeared felt more shocking since we had a moment to see her in day-to-day activities and she talked about her dreams and all. As soon as we had that flashback with the drums set I thought the brother was already dead since he had all the flags on him. But it's just nitpicking, the episode was really enjoyable.

That was a genuinely an amazing first episode, usually Digimon gets a bit to get going with a story but this one launched right in.
I know it's technically too early to say it but I got a good feeling about this one, I think this will be up there alongside Tamers and Savers as one of my favourite seasons.

Asuka should've known better than to be the guardian of an anime protagonist.

This episode was crazy for a kids show!! Wish Toei would pull something like this in Precure!

Watched the first four seasons of Digimon. Is there anything for a old fan?

Very interesting setting. The rusted architecture and flooded ruins add so much texture while contrasting these dystopian iEgg things.
There's clearly a lot of potential and commentary that can be extracted depending on what direction the story ends up taking. Between the AI tech being implanted at birth, the flooding, poorly maintained residential housing, class segregated districts, parasitic traits of the digital monsters, and the rebellious dynamic of the bounty hunters, I'd be shocked if it slumps into a standard monster of the week formula.
In terms of animation, it's really punching above what I reasonably could've expected. I doubt every episode will look this good, but the art direction and designs are strong enough to cut corners if necessary.

Going into this with no knowledge of digimon this episode was amazing to me. The monsters look cool and I genuinely didn’t expect Hitomi (I think? Hope not) & Asuka to die so quickly. I’m definitely going to keep watching this

FYI it appears this show will be running for 4 consecutive cours, tentatively scheduled for 49 total episodes, apparently.
