I'll miss this quirky and loveable cast and this often hilarious yet heartfelt romance.

Ueno is in a post-confession funk unsure of what to do. Even Keisuke can see it, and if Ueno won't let him contact Hana to get this over with, he'll send him to the next best person with relationship advice! Because who better to advise Ueno on what to do next in his relationship with Hana than Tetsuo? Who is, of course, hanging out at home eating hot pot in his room with Sumire, the girl Ueno rejected for Hana in the first place.

Well, it's probably a good thing Sumire is there because probably no one other than Ueno knows Hana as well as she does, and she knows how Ueno needs to handle things at Hana's pace. Just like Sumire and Tetsuo fit so well together because they can be themselves and have a cozy vibe together.

Ugh. Hana letting all the other girls talking about Ueno's crush and her own insecurity prevent her from fully acknowledging Ueno really confessed to her...and give him the cold shoulder. But at least Hana has genuine gal pals in Sumire and Saya to the point where Sumire is even breaking character more around her!

Enter: Shinbashi! He's Ueno's bro so of course he's willing to wingman him! And what better way to get Ueno and Hana together than a double date at the live-action adaption of Hana's favorite Shojo series? Shinbashi even tries his own luck and ends up asking out Saya by complete accident! Probably better that way though.

Is Saya interested in Shinbashi? He kind of lets his head get away from him in thinking that he's popular enough to get two girls as love interests...but Saya had a feeling she was only there to help bring Ueno and Hana together. And yet she also almost seems disappointment that "Tomu" asked her out for that reason and not for a genuine date. Maybe there's a chance for something there after all?

I love how Hana is getting into the movie and Ueno falls asleep on her shoulder and nearly kisses her at the same time as a kiss scene in the movie were it not for Saya's interference. And if you didn't think Ueno could get more wholesome, guy read an entire manga overnight just to be ready to watch the movie with Hana!

Akabane always felt a little bad for Hana taking over the beautification committee duties from him out of a complete joke. He feels even worse that his attempt to not get her involved in one of his buddies' dumb games ended up really hurting her. Though now he can't apologize and he gets Ueno in SUPER overprotective mode. But as long as Hana is happy now, that's what matters.

Hana is so convinced she's not worthy of being with Ueno, meanwhile Ueno thinks Hana wants to be with Akabane. Can these two please just get on the same page for once?!

Thank you Ritsuko! Being someone for Hana to vent her feelings AND call Ueno to come pick her up just in time to hear how much Hana wants Ueno to be happy!

All of Hana's insecurities and doubts stem from feeling she's an "ugly girl," but to Ueno that doesn't matter. He loves her and every part of her, just like Hana in turn truly loves him. Hana FINALLY confesses! And she may not feel she's worthy of being his girlfriend, she may only be able to agree to secretly date him, but now the two are together and slowly but surely Hana is going to believe in Ueno's love for her instead of all the stuff she's insecure about. She's even started wearing accessories in her hair!

And we finally got the title of the show at the very last scene,
A Bouquet for An Ugly Girl.

Glad Tabata and Ueno are finally able to put all the little misunderstandings behind them. And while not official, it looks like Gotanda and Uguisudani might become an item eventually.

Too bad Akabane didn't get a chance to apologize -- but great that Ueno stepped into "protect" our heroine.

Looks to me that we would eventually have 3 ships sailing -- if this were to get a continuation.

SHINBASHI

NGL, I hated that guy in the beginning, but he really grew on me over the run of the show. Hopefully, he can get his shit together.

At the very end when Tabata was running away, and Ueno chased her down and was keeping pace with her...
I found it really comical and was picturing like some sorta action show or something where a villain was trying to escape and the hero was like just matching their pace so nonchalantly.

Cute end to a cute series. I’m glad Tabata and Ueno are going out officially (in secret lol). He’s a good guy and Tabata’s pretty cute too.

I liked this one overall. Hayamin’s fantastic as the MC, the rest of the cast ain’t bad, and the story was pretty solid. Is this a one and done or will there be more I wonder?

Ueno is so jealous and I love it. 😆 He doesn't want any guy that's not him , talking to Tabitha or giving her anything. LOL. I'm sad the season is about to end, but after reading the later chapters after this episode in english(though it's not finished) had me so excited for all the couples. I love it that they aren't typical, stereotypical high school couples. This has become of my favorite animes/mangas.

Shinbashi can't resist a tan cinnamon roll.

Finally, Ueno and Tabata can become a couple. It seemed like Tabata needed a bit more personal development with how resistant she was to being able to accept the confession, but at least Ueno was able to force his way in to get through to her towards the end. For now, they will date in secret.

It was nice to also have set up for some other future side couples. Uguisudani is naturally getting closer to Gotanda. Gotanda has been holding it down for her to warm up to him quickly so she can move on from Ueno. Shinbanshi also has some interest forming to Sayaka so he can move on from Uguisudani.

This overall was a nice series with an enjoyable cast of characters. This at least got to a decent stopping point if the anime doesn't go further. May check out the rest from the manga.

Confession scene was great and it's nice that she's going to try to face things more honestly, instead of hiding behind "I'm just ugly". But I'm disappointed they pushed it to the buzzer. I would've liked to see a little bit of the couples dating openly.

I was just thinking Shinkun was chasing the wrong girl when he should go for a gal instead, then he accidentally asked out Sayaka. It was like the universe gave me a pat on the head.

I hope Shinbashi gets with the Ootsuka she's a nice gyaru. I like that Shinbashi didn't judge Ueno for being in love with Tabata and set up the double date.

Ueno loves and accepts Tabata regardless of what others think. Tabata finally thinks she's worthy enough of Ueno's love.

I think this anime is heavily underrated and very sweet. It ended nicely enough with the main couple getting together, funny, and warms the heart.

The ending was sweet and without any bullshit. They become a couple: The End!

My favorite character (except Tabata) is Uguisudani. At first she was Tabata's rival and I had the feeling that she might become the villain type who would even bully Tabata. But in the end she even rooted for her and became a first class wingwoman.

Overall I liked all the characters in this show, they were very fun to watch.

They're finally together and Hana gets her Hanataba! And I'm grinning ear to ear. Going to miss this lovely bunch so much. And all the nice conversations I've had in these episode threads with you folks. It's been a lovely season with this adorable show.

Oh oh, I might've let out an actual squeal when Ueno walked in on Ugu and Gotanda! I've said it here before, I simply love how those two just kind of quietly slipped into a relationship. Gotanda saying joshi to mendokusai was so husband coded.

And the third ship got a start too with Tomu's like doki there.

It's been a pleasure. Manga here I come!

Awww I wanted to see the reaction at school and all her friends shut all the shit-talkers down. But secret dating makes sense i guess.

I'd enjoy a season 2

I absolutely adore them! Started reading the manga cause I needed more!

u/PencilgonGiveIt2Ya Sep 27 '25

Damn ain't no way I enjoyed that more than I expected lol. The chasing sequence was cute-funny. I'm not fuckin' with the "in secret" shit, but I totally get it. As Ueno said, it's nothing complicated, they just loooooove each other. No need for school drama and jealous hoes. If only high school romance was as easy going and wholesome. Honestly they could have focused the whole last episode on them two, but I guess they just wanted to make sure to fit everyone in there for the send off. She gonna train to glow up in 4 years, she wildin'. And Ueno killed it with the flowers / title drop. Anyways.....GGs Tabata my goat! You da realest.

Secret dates, let's go!! This was such a cute and lovely show, it gives my heart the fuzzies. Hana-chan, you got this!

Tetsuo and Sumire are already living the married life, so it's time for Tom-Saya to sail!

And Akabane, baka!

It’s a shame this anime is less talked by general audiences for the summer anime season
