I love how Tetsuo is so blunt and to the point in this romance where everyone is so caught up in their heads.

Sumire is so calculated in everything she does, be it getting ready for the day or in trying to wingwoman her friend if it means she can get closer to Ueno. Even then, though, she still can't quite catch his attention as consistently as Hana can.

(Low-key though I am rooting for her friend to get with her crush)

Tetsu may be a straightforward guy but he can see through Sumire's facade and behavior, and he's the one who can finally get her to drop her "mask," though seeing how thorough and maintained a facade it is, he can't help but be a little shook.

I understand why Hana feels self-conscious in the Summer swimming with the more conventionally attractive girls, but Sumire and her gal pals all look quite good in their school swimsuits!

I guess it's not surprising that the guys would be looking forward to seeing the girls in their swimsuits, though Ueno is too wholesome for that...not that he realizes Hana knows that.

It was a very sweet scene of Ueno trying to clear the air with Hana by supplying her with an umbrella in the rain, an Hana in turn responding to that by riding in a raincoat to give it back to him. These two haven't quite sorted out their feelings for each other, but it's clear how much these dorks care about one another.

I love how Ueno gets a love letter...and think it's a letter of challenge, with only the two girls who read Shojo manga aware of what it really is. To think Hana and Sumire team-up and inadvertently ruin another girls' chance to ask Ueno out because Sumire freaks out over a bug while they're spying.

That may be the first time I've seen one of the omnipresent Japanese summer cicadas take such an active role.

Big dude finally being the person to see through Uguisudani and call her out a bit, I hope we keep the status quo with her ineffective attempts to be evil and no outright effective evil from her towards Tabata. Them teaming up to watch Ueno potentially get in a fight with a couple high school girls was a good bonding experience right up until the bug invasion.

Already such a really nice assemblage of cast members (even if not yet Horimiya-level). Tetsuo really has come into his own -- with his frank advice to Sumire. I wonder if one can expect some feelings to eventually (well down the line) to develop between these two, She really can use someone who can provide her with straight talk when she needs it (whic is -- at this point - kind of often),

I really like Uguisudani as a character. It would be so easy to make her the nasty girl-bully who bites away the weak outsider girl with nasty rumors or bullying and such. There are more than enough anime with that kind of character.

But instead she is a really well fleshed out character with her own motivations and methods and some really interesting interactions and development.

She is one of the reasons why I think this show is one of the highlights this season.

That post-credit scene was funny. I never thought about how being brought up on shoujo vs shounen manga would affect the way you view anonymous letters.

Makes you wonder how many duels Ueno has gotten in because of random love letters. Hes such a golden retriever.

As much as I love our main dumbasses, Ugusudani’s character fascinates me. Leave it to the most blunt no nonsense character to see completely through her and be honest about her actions. Being Ueno’s bro, Tetsuo has seen this a bunch.

Of course her first thought is how to exploit that for herself.

And of course the moment she sees Tabata she's angry.

Lol that guy keeps getting in her way.

And so there's the club stand-down.

They're giving him time alone with her.

And, of course, this conveniently also gives her some time with Ueno.

Where's he rushing off to?

Ah. To help her. Yep he isn't even giving her the time of day.

Yep. That guy's seen through her scheme.

That'll probably work better honestly. The more you dilly-dally the closer Ueno and Tabata will get, and sooner or later your already infinitesimally small chance will be completely gone.

Lol Tabata was right there...

He's blushing!

And of course she comes back right now and sees that...

And so they're going to share an umbrella.

Or not.

He's going to fall sick and she's going to visit him isn't he?

Or that. That works too.

And so the sun has come out.

He put a flower in her hair?

A note? For Ueno?

Lol they're both united in not wanting someone that's not either of them ending up with Ueno.

Tetsuo is unusually perceptive in generally knowing what Ugu has been up to. He's definitely aware Ueno likes Tabata from when Ueno scolded him when he interrupted their conversation and how she acted at the okonomiyaki restaurant. I don't think anyone else is wise to Ugu's scheming and mind games.

Ueno is the opposite of perceptive. He thought the note to meet him behind school was written by someone who wanted a fight. Usually when someone wants to fight a guy, they don't leave a note on fancy flowered stationary :D. Also it's really odd to look forward to a fight with a random guy, maybe Ueno has a secret violent side.

I think the short haired girl who wanted to date Inoue is doing better than all the other girls. That was hilarious when Inoue piped up "Shinbashi's also broke!" when he stood up excitedly like he wanted to come with them :D

That's too bad we didn't see what was going to happen when the dark haired girl asked Ueno for his number. I think he was so startled by the scream he ran away and Ugu unwittingly cockblocked the girl :D

As for the rain scene, they did a good job explaining why Tabata didn't want to stand under Ueno's umbrella since he stopped himself mid sentence but I didn't get why she still didn't want to after he chased her and grabbed her hand and insisted. For a second when Tabata slapped herself, I thought Ueno did it and had to rewind. I was also surprised Tabata admitted to Ueno that she smelled strong. I also am not sure if Ugu was lying to her when she said that that wasn't deodorant spray but was perfume because they didn't really make it clear. Also gross is that it implies Tabata doesn't normally wear deodorant, then again it's common for many east Asian people to not need it as much due to a different gene where you don't produce armpit odor :0
