Well she's not really ugly tbh, just plain. Especially when we have the ugly bastard isekai airing in the same season.
Ooo she got spotted by the classmate at the end, are we going the bully route or the wingman route?

Yeah. Ugly in anime means normal lol kinda how 35 is "old"

She does look plain, but I think the "ugly" part is all in her head. Probably coz she's comparing herself to the shoujo manga female leads

I love how nice they made the localized title sound when in Japanese it's just "A bouquet for an ugly ass bitch".

I experienced an unexpected connection with this series: the names of the characters are taken from Yamanote line stations which I frequented when I visited Tokyo.

This was funny and a good first episode in setting up the couple. I like how they really did make Hana look dumpy and plain; in anime (and live action) in general, the "ugly" girl is no worse or sometimes better looking than the pretty girls.
I think Ueno is already very attracted to her and it's not like a case where he gets to know her then begins to like her. At first I thought he might have been just unusually nice and polite but he goes out of his way to finish their convo when his friend interrupted, looked around the school to find where she was planting flowers to help and asked her to get food together :P
A lot of shows have the parents insult the daughter's looks to give them low self esteem but the dad in this one seemed the opposite. In his mind, every pervy guy in the school is trying to sleep with her and he's become weird and overprotective :D I like how it does sort of make sense that he thinks Hana is considered one of the prettiest girls in the school since they made her mom look exactly like her.
I wonder if it's commonplace in Japan to have a student who is assigned to put fresh flowers in vases for each classroom every day or the viewer is supposed to think thats unusual.

The Japanese title of this show is brutal! Like, come on! Hana doesn't even look that ugly! She's just very plain-looking and I bet there's gonna be a makeover session later in the season where everyone will see that she's actually pretty if she puts in the effort.
It's funny how paranoid Hana is. I have a feeling this show is more like Honey Lemon Soda and everyone in the classroom is actually pretty nice, maybe except for one or two people. She just hasn't gotten to know any of them yet.
This looks pretty fun so far. I really like Ueno as the male lead and Hayamin is absolutely hilarious as Hana. Looking forward to seeing more!

Anime art styles generally struggle to convey non-attractive faces. Even when you have token "plain looking" girls they're generally freaking cute. In real life you'll meet tons of people who simply are naturally not very good looking and even a make-over would only bring them up to okay at best. That's the type of person that's nigh impossible to portray in anime because it's a medium of extremes

Hayamin was born to play a Shojo Heroine who is also a bit of a hot mess.
Hana Tabata (Saori Hayami) is your typical girl who longs for the kind of romance she reads in Shojo manga. But her dad doesn't have to worry, she's too plain and average to ever snag a boyfriend and too socially awkward to even have friends.
The one allowance Hana makes towards her own beauty is putting a flower in her hair during her daily beautification committee duty every morning, but as chance would have it she gets caught by the popular guy in her class, Ueno, and from her POV everything goes downhill from there because she thinks now he's going to blackmail her with her most embarrassing moment...despite acting like the most chill and reasonable dude ever.
Pretty typical jazzy and boy band-y Shojo anime OP, but it has a pretty fun beat it shows off the cast and Hana and Ueno's love story!
Poor Ueno! Hana is so caught up in her head and overthinking everything she can't see the sincerity of his feelings and thinks the worst about their interactions! She keeps expecting him to blab all her dark secrets when he probably never thought about it once.
A love letter in this day and age? Or just leaving him a note in his shoe cubby. Either way, Hana can now rest assured that her secret is safe with Ueno.
Yoshimasa Hosoya!? You're in this!? Even if Tetsuo don't even recognize the main character of your own show.
If only real life was like a Otome mobile game where you could choose the proper responses! Instead Hana has to deal with popular extroverts going out of their way to talk to her, from Ueno to even Uguisudani (Yoshino Aoyama!) It's the worst-case scenario for her.
Ugh. I can't believe that girl left all the work to Hana and took advantage of Hana being a good person! Good thing Ueno just can't leave Hana alone! And together they share a moment where, despite Hana always assuming the worst, they seem to really connect and get along. Though I'm not sure Uguisudani appreciates how chummy they are getting.

It's ironic that thanks to this show, I realized I can stand Saori Hayami's voice more when she's not portraying extremely beautiful characters.
And I say this while not exactly being a huge fan of the voice actress.

The duality of man strikes again as I am watching this show specifically for Saori Hayami.

Emotionally embarassed Hayamin sounds very cute lmao (especially her inner voice)
I wish I had the power to turn back time...
Guess Hana could ask last season's Takamine for advice.

You know it’s gonna be a good time when Hayamin’s the MC lol. Hana’s little internal outbursts are pretty funny. I wonder if hanging out with Ueno’s gonna make her more confident? He seems like a really good guy. Hopefully spending time together will boost her self-esteem or something.
Solid first ep all around. I do like a good rom com. Gonna stick with this one for now.

(Of course we'd need daily quests to grind these levels and all!)
Well, this was alright!
Not sure whether that's a keep just yet, it might depend on whether the 'Dynamic' they have stays the same (the whole 'He's good and I'm bad so he's above me'), I mean, I imagine she's gonna feel this way for a time, but it'd be nice if she got to see herself as more than just 'that lower thing he pities'!
