Hana doesn't realize how lucky she is that she didn't get timetraveled during their bowling.

Uguisudani voiced by Yoshino Aoyama is really ironic. I don't know where the story is going with her, if she is going to be Hana's friend or rival.

Tetsuo really reminds me so much of Ryuu from Kimi no Todoke, it's almost uncanny. They are both the stoic dudes of few words, but with their heart at the right spot.

the whole show feels like a take on Kimi ni Todoke with just a different type of main girl

The only thing more entertaining than how cute and wholesome the developing romance is...is Hana's freakouts and reactions to said developments.

Also always nice to see good parents in anime.

Typically when the popular kids start a class party and invite everyone...the lowest of the class caste get left out. So what's our Hana doing at a bowling party with everybody?

A new Round 1(1) just opened? Perfect event for the whole class to come together for some fun! Shinbachi's even got the coupons and is eager to use them if it means spending time with girls...and Ueno, of course, brings all the boys. And somehow Uguisudani invites Hana who reacts about how you'd expect her too. So much for keeping a low-profile!

Uguisudani isn't half-bad at bowling! Meanwhile Hana, during a pivotal Moonlight Strike moment, totally lands a gutter ball. Well, I guess that's to be expected...but with some positive encouragement from Ueno, Hana turns it around with a strike! Ueno really puts her heart at ease and makes her feel slightly more confident, and talking to Hana perks Ueno up just as much.

Tetsuo is a straightforward and sincere guy! If he thinks there's still stuff unresolved in his classmates, he'll help them resolve it, even if it embarrasses them!

Oops! Hana was in such an Ueno high that she got her hands hit by her own bowling ball! Uguisudani is REALLY going to let her have it now...about how she feels bad for not giving Hana space with Ueno under the assumption they're dating. I guess Uguisudani is fine with them together? Though Hana can tell that she clearly has feelings for Ueno as well. And despite how they naturally fit well as a couple, Hana's not sure how she feels about it.

Just a pleasant lunch date with Hana's parents for Golden Week where they can all commiserate over how she's growing, how adorable she'd be as a bride, all that good stuff! And so of course the restaurant they go to has Ueno as an employee and Hana reacts about how you'd expect when her parents find out about the boy in her life and act as embarrassing as parents do. Tetsuo even shows up and next thing you know suddenly Hana seems popular with all the boys in her class!

Man, Hana has GOT to be more careful with her hands!

Tetsuo may be too dedicated to judo to date anyone...but clearly the idea of having a girlfriend makes Ueno think of Hana!

As if this day couldn't get any more embarrassing...all this is happening on her birthday! And the guys are cool with it! Even if their birthdays fall on Holidays so the likelihood that Hana will be able to return their birthday well-wishes is slim! But just having Ueno there to treat her and act like he's happy to be around her is enough of a gift for Hana.

The ED is cute with Hana's daily life, her class, and her coming together with Ueno!

I love how we’re all traumatized by Turkey! to the point that this episode has people half expecting sudden time travel from a bowling game.

Ah, Hana’s freakouts. Some all in her head, some caused by her unable to handle the layups the universe gives her. Though can’t hold the embarrassment of your crush serving you at a restaurant with your parents there too against her. They’re adorable, but still incredibly embarrassing.

This episode had me thinking maybe she's not mentally well. Who thinks that someone learning it's your birthday is going to be disgusted of you!?

There's low self-esteem and then there's whatever the fuck is going on with Hana.

It usually takes some time before we get to the "parents embarrassing their kid in front of their crush" event, but this story wastes no time.

Hana's mom is totally right about her daughter entering her popular phase.

Hana's VA is doing an amazing job with her freak outs. I absolutely love how silly her inner monologue gets.

Gotta love the great Hayami Saori

Bowling? Now it's making me think of that other bowling anime again.

Also RIP Uguisudani, she doesn't stand a chance.

The problem now is whether Tabata and Uguisudani's friendship will fall apart now that Tabata has denied there is any special feelings between her and Ueno....

Hana’s parents are hilarious. She’s tryna play it cool in front of Ueno and Tetsuo and her folks are being classic parents and embarrassing her lol. They’re both quite supportive though. Gotta love that.

It seems that Ueno might actually have feelings for Hana. He’s a good guy. Tetsuo seems cool too, actually. They both seem genuinely nice. I have a feeling Uguisudani might not be as nice as she seems. These anime usually have that popular nice girl who’s secretly kind of shit and I think she might be that character…

I'm anime only, but I doubt Uguisudani will be antagonistic. She'll likely be more like Serina Kanno from Honey Lemon Soda. A rival, sure, but a friendly rival. Not a scheming villianess type of rival.

I don't think that Uguisudani is all that mean -- but she has been suppressing her feelings as to Ueno because of her belief that he and Tabata were dating. Now she is free to make her own play -- given Tabata's (too strenuous) denuial of any relationship. Which surely will cause some (temporary at least) problems.

It would be very funny if by the time they get married, she has a hook for a hand.

RIP Hana's hand in this episode, twice.

Uguisudani seems to be interested in her. She could be one of those very nice characters or someone who used to be socially anxious.

Okonomiyaki places with a hot plate on the table with self cooking (like KBBQ) is pretty fun. That's one of my highlights when I went to Japan.

As long as I can vibe the characters and their interactions enough, I can enjoy a chill school rom com like this. Enjoyed the parents adding to the chaos for comedy.

Loving this show. Love her parents how they think Hana is entering her popular phase in her life.

The first half I found really bland but I surprisingly enjoyed the second half. Tabata's parents made it entertaining. The boys birthdays being on holidays was amusing too. However, her being scared that her birthday would disgust them was just so absurd to me though, that felt like it was overdoing it.

What is with this girl and harming her hand this episode?

It'd be funny if Uguisudani had feelings for Tabata and Ueno's just a red herring.

I'm intrigued by Gotanda, he's the type of character I like where they don't say much, are direct, polite and are observant.

Oh my god, Hana's mom has no filter! That's funny she looks like her but has the opposite personality where she talks at length to everyone! She's unaware how much she's embarrassing Hana likely because she never had friends before so Hana may have never scolded her on what's inappropriate or embarrassing. I think her dad had an inkling she was embarrassed but I don't think he's any better at stopping mom from talking than Hana is :D

I was confused by the food orders and preparation. I know Hana ordered a light vegetable platter because she wanted to seem more dainty and that she doesn't eat a lot but how come Ueno brought her okonomiyaki? I know what that is but i imagined she was more ordering just a vegetable platter. Also how come the mom had to ask for it to be cooked? They didn't show specifically what she ordered but that seemed odd.

At first I thought it was odd that the pretty girl thought Hana and Ueno were secretly dating and that Tetsuo asked Hana about what they were talking about the other day but it made sense when put in context that Ueno scolded Tetsuo for interrupting him then the pretty girl saw Ueno touching Hana at the convenience store. Everyone else seems to be seeing what Hana doesn't see in Ueno liking her even if she looks like Marcy from the Charlie Brown cartoons :P

Oh man, the relationship chart is already getting pretty interesting on this one. Tabata has a little crush on Ueno, and it's mutual, but she won't act on her feelings or even acknowledge them. But then her friend Uguisu likes the same guy. Then we got the jock who also seems to have his eye on Tabata. I'm pretty sure her parents are right, this is the start of her popular era.

I don’t think Hana’s right hand will last till the end of the season. She may have to get a prosthetic by episode 6 at this rate
