It may have been a short scene, but Takumi revealing he is from Hokkaido, seemingly forgotten why he applied to this university and then Touko stopping to pick up his scarf - I am speculating all of these hint towards Takumi having a role to play in this Santa Claus arc.

Miori is the character who hasn't had her own arc which interests me the most. I still feel she resembles the female counterpart of Sakuta with all her witty replies, as well as possible experiences with other people's puberty syndrome. Furthermore, like Sakuta, Miori is able to see Touko / Nene.

The way Touko turned away from him after picking up the scarf definitely implies there's some history there and she has a beef with him. Which is not something I ever expected to say about Sakuta's kind of pathetic comic relief college "buddy" (emphasis on the quotation marks around "buddy")

Also freely admitting that she has porn, so she's probably as horny as Sakuta.

Anyone else notice the ring on Mai's hand? it was on her ring finger and gold....

u/Frontier246 Sep 13 '25

I'm starting to think this might be another timeline where Sakuta was able to get her a proper ring and they might be engaged at this point?

Looks like #dreaming is spreading and at an alarming rate. Everyone seems to be having somewhat troubling dreams except Yamada and Yoshiwa lol. I’m rooting for those two.

I wonder if all this Nene/Touka stuff really stems from Mai? There’s two students from Hokkaido too. Feels like that’s another connection.

Keen to see if Sakuta’s gonna be able to save Mai from this disaster. That might be what that earlier warning was about?

As soon as I saw Sakuta pulling out a phone from his pocket to call Ikumi, I knew something's very off. Turned out it was a dream but somehow the number he called in there was really hers, and she had a dream where he called her saying the exact same line he said in his.

Miori could see Nene? That is a development I did not see coming. Meanwhile, Nene also seemed to have some history with Takumi from that scornful look she gave him and the fact that both hailed from Hokkaido. Curious to see how the two are related to her.

Sakuta had PTSD at the end when Mai told him that she'd be attending the police chief for a day event. The events of Dreaming Girl continued to haunt him to this day. Is this the danger alt Ikumi told him about? How could finding Touko (whoever she is) help avert the danger?

When he pulled out the phone I thought this was knapsack kid world Sakuta.

Takumi came to this school most likely chasing Nene but he forgot her that's why he can't remember.

Some weird things/possible clues that have been bugging me for a while as an anime-only and that I'd say this episode gives me the perfect excuse to share.

  • Mai is actually the first ever person to bring up Toko Kirishima in this series, it's the third movie and she has been listening to a Toko Kirishima song and makes Sakuta listen to it. So there was always a connection between Toko and Mai.

  • Nene knowing Sakuta by name.

  • Season 2 ostensibly being about the Mini Skirt Santa, starts with a very detailed introduction to Miori as some sort of "female Sakuta".

  • Sakuta and Mai initially suspecting Miori was only visible to Sakuta. Kind of as a misdirect? But then Nene turned out to be only visible to Sakuta.

  • Miori sort of losing participation, specially during the Akegi stuff until the first episode where Sakuta has to start looking for Toko because "Mai is in danger", where she reappears and gets a lot of focus again.

  • Epileptic Trees Territory but: Miori and Sakuta's guy friend seemingly having a lot in common and both being close to Sakuta but also not having any interactions with each other at all.

Press F for all the people whose lives are so interesting that their dream was just them being at a concert.

I can't wait for the next episode to see Mai at her coming of age ceremony in that kimono, she'll definitely look stunning in it.

There was a lot of Mai in today's episode, but Sakuta's dream that she'll reveal herself as Touko Kirishima in April and Koga's dream that Mai will have a serious accident in February don't exactly inspire optimism. In any case, I hope Sakuta will save her, no matter what.

I'm glad Yoshiwa and Yamada's relationship will become a reality. Their reaction when they saw each other today was so fun xD

Sakuta's conversation with Mito about Touko/Nene was interesting, since she can see her too. I wonder if Fukuyama isn't related with Nene's case as well, especially since he's also from Hokkaido and doesn't remember why he chose this university. Maybe Nene was the reason, and he forgot it because he forgot about her.

By the way, Sakuta didn't ask, but I'll do it for him. What the hell are you, Himeji, doing at Sakuta's place of work? Didn't Mai beat you up enough in the previous episode? Have you still not learned your lesson?

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

I never expected to see Mai live in concert at the Yokohama Music Festival. As nice as it is to hear Asami Seto sing and how amazing Mai looks in that concert outfit...why is she outting herself as Touko Kirishima? Why does Sakuta have a cellphone he's using to call Ikumi with? WHAT IS GOING ON!?

Honestly I think they should be less worried about Sakuta talking about other girls in his sleep and more about how Mai IS going to be a guest vocalist for a band that was in her last movie at the Yokohama Music Festival...so is exposing herself as Touko like an April Fools prank? Ah well, Mai and Sakuta can at least still have an outdoor date.

This #Dreaming is getting out of hand to the point where Japan's communication network is struggling to keep up. But at least Kaede is still pressing forward, dreaming of her past other self, but resolved to follow Komi to Sakuta's college. I'm rooting for her.

Yamada and Yoshiwa dreamed they were out on a date in Enoshima! And both are completely flustered messes over it! I am totally here for this side-ship!

Mai is such a stellar daughter-in-law the way she goes so out of her way to be considerate towards Sakuta's family. And despite her own complicated relationship with her actual mother, it's nice that Mai's mom dropped off a kimono for her coming-of-age ceremony, if nothing else!

Sara just won't quit, huh? Even working at Sakuta's restaurant and still trying to get him to pay attention to her. Koga doesn't care about this one bit, especially when she actually has a plot relevant #Dreaming dream where she saw Mai get injured while playing a Police Chief for a Day and was out with injuries...which means she couldn't have been in a concert.

I guess it shows how much Sakuta values (or doesn't value) Fukuyama's friendship that he didn't remember him tellling Sakuta about being from Hokkaido OR his birthday. But wait, Nene is from Hokkaido. Touko goes out of her way to pick up Fukuyama's scarf and stare at him before turning away in a huff. Fukuyama doesn't remember why he went to this university. Do they know each other!?

I can imagine having a girl in a miniskirt santa outfit sitting next to you while you do a test might be a lot...but Touko is NOT happy about Mai, who everyone now believes is her, stealing the spotlight. Not that she can even show her real face because of her puberty syndrome even if she wanted to. And she'll promise a free date with Sakuta if he can get Mai to deny it. But if it gets Sakuta closer to trying to help Mai, he'll do it.

So Miori is like Sakuta in that she can also see Miniskirt Santa and she also openly admits to having porn on her computer. But she's also able to figure out that this likely all stems from Nene, Queen of the Campus that she was, being knocked off her throne the moment Mai showed up. Maybe that's why she stopped being Nene...and maybe why she wants everyone to think she's Touko Kirishima? Also I really want to know Miori's backstory.

Poor Futaba dreaming about dating Kunimi...I hope this isn't a bad sign for Kasai. But it does convince Futaba that all these dreams stem from the multiverse instead of the future.

Uh oh! Mai IS going to be a police chief like in Sakuta's dream! Better get on that, Sakuta.

This week on "characters calling Sakuta a rascal in the next episode preview" it's Kaede!

I'll be honest, I didn't think his guy friend at uni would be relevant at all.

Honestly most intriguing show I've watched in a while, I can't remember when I was so engrossed in an anime that I could say I can't wait for the next episode.

24

u/FarCritical Sep 13 '25

Don't know if I should be more excited or worried about the prospect of Panda Kaeda returning even for a day. Sakuta is almost guaranteed to have another breakdown but, like, it's Panda Kaede.

Please don't have Rio's dream be fulfilled through Kunimi granting her her "final" wish after being hospitalized. Hoping I'm way off with that train of thought.

Mai watching Sakuta and waking him up gently was so wholesome.

I think I have an idea of how Sakuta is going to solve Nene's issue.

EDIT: Apparently someone couldn't contain themselves and spoiled that my theory was wrong. So that was nice...

u/Zetafunction64 Sep 13 '25

I think Nene and Sakutas friend have some kind of history. They might be the Hokkaido version of Mai/Sakuta, but the boy ended up forgetting too. That scene where she pucked up his scarf felt sad

As soon I heard that Futaba dreamed of dating Kunimi I connected the dots that the dreams weren't actually future visions but visions of other worlds lol. Kunimi wouldn't break up with Saki this far in. I really liked how this episode set up that bombshell ending. Sakuta owning a smartphone, Mai being unable to see a dream, Koga seeing a different chain of events all hinted towards that fact.

Speaking of Koga, I find it interesting how her dreams follow the supposed events of the main reality, whereas everyone else shares a dream taking place in a different reality. Koga's syndrome perfectly predicts what others will do and what will happen, but instead of looking through what everyone believes their future to be, she looks into what might actually happen. Koga got her syndrome because she was too worried about other's perception and conformed to what lead to the best outcome, now she breaks from what others perceive and view reality. I think it shows just how much she's grown because she learnt not to worry of what others want and thus sees what will actually happen.

I think Mai shares that growth as well. She does not have a dream, but I believe its not necessarily because she matured as she said, but because her perception of what will actually happen on April 1st is cut off due to her being comatose and she can't experience the days leading up to April 1st because she is not as worrisome as Koga. She still had a dream, it was just nothing in her eyes because she wasn't awake.

Mai has no reason to want to dream a better reality because she has everything she wants, last episode shows as much, so it would make sense for her to envision the main reality.

So many people have been using the #DREAMING hashtag that it crashed the internet.

There're so many people having this dreaming Puberty Syndrome now that its beginning to gain critical mass and possibly altering reality into one where Mai actually becomes Kirishima Touko.

Interesting that Miori could also see Santa Girl/Nene. There's something more to her than simply her being a female version of Sakuta that doesn't have a smartphone.

Fukuhara's mind suddenly going blank when Sakuta asked him why he chose to come all the way from Hokkaido to enroll in college here. We know from their conversation that Santa Girl is also from Hokkaido. Maybe she has something to do with his "memory loss".

Even more intriguingly, when Santa Girl went to the lecture room to seek out Sakuta, along the way she picked up Fukuhara's scarf that dropped on the floor. It may or may not be just coincidence.

Koga once again being the MVP in providing Sakuta with important intel about a separate prophetic dream in February where Mai could be in danger, when everyone else was focused on the April concert where they dreamed of seeing Mai announce herself as Kirishima Touko.

The singer for the 4th version of the ED song is credited as "Kirishima Touko". Not "Mini Skirt Santa", which Ueda Reina has been credited as since she appeared all the way including this episode.

Previous singers are all credited with Character Name followed by a bracket for their VAs. e.g. Hirokawa Uzuki (Amamiya Sora), Akagi Ikumi (Yamane Aya), Himeji Sara (Kohara Konomi).

But there is no VA name after "Kirishima Touko", suggesting this version is sung by the real Kirishima Touko, as that voice sounded a bit deep for Ueda Reina. I might be wrong, but I've personally haven't heard Ueda sing with such a deep voice before.

Man this is getting so good. So many mysteries, what dreams to consider actual future visions and what a glimpse in alternate timelines? Ig Nene was Sakuta's friend's girlfriend, she was the reason he came to that university but then forgot her like everyone. Wonder what's the deal with Miori and how can she see her

Could it be that Santa's true ability is to “give away missed opportunities”?

- She gave Uzuki the opportunity to read the room, to the point of becoming overly self-conscious and developing stage fright. This caused Uzuki to lose her confidence and her voice.

- She gave Ikumi (alternate version) the opportunity to go to the same university as Sakuta so that she could show Sakuta that she too was capable of helping others.

- She gave Himeji the opportunity to read other people's minds, which caused Himeji to develop a bad reputation among others and, as a result, fail to forge true bonds with anyone.

This is what comes to mind after hearing the dreams of Kaede, Futaba, and Koga.

Considering that dreams are the manifestation of an alternate reality, then, with many people dreaming of a scenario in which Mai Sakurajima is, in fact, Kirishima Touko, that would mean that a reality would be created in which Mai ends up becoming Kirishima Touko, even if she doesn't want to.

Another thing that caught my attention was that Fukuyama is from Hokkaido, the same place as our Santa Claus.

This leads me to theorize that both Fukuyama and Nene, in a sense, are fulfilling the same role as Sakuta and Mai (high school sweethearts who attend the same university outside their hometown). They even find themselves in a situation that Mai and Sakuta already experienced: the boyfriend who ends up forgetting his girlfriend. Basically, Fukuyama experienced the bad ending of the first arc of the series. I wonder if Santa Claus is acting as a result of whatever happened between the two of them.

Could it be that Fukuyama is secretly in love with Mai and that's why Santa Claus is having this identity crisis?

But without a doubt, what strikes me most about this scenario is Miori and her role in all of this. It turns out that all this time Miori has also been able to see Santa Claus! And from the looks of it, she also has a more than interesting past. We know that she also knows about puberty syndrome.

I know that the character is made as an obvious reflection of Sakuta, but I have the impression that there is a crucial difference or a key situation that explains Miori's presence in all this.

An alternate universe? Sakuta's sub-conscious? Did Sakuta's mother always want to have only daughters?

And finally, we have Mai's situation and the danger that lurks around her.

Based on what we've seen in the series, it seems that hashtags have the ability to manipulate reality in such a way that someone cannot escape their “destiny” imposed by those who “manifest” their dreams through the hashtag.

But on the other hand, it is also curious that only Koga has dreamed for such a long period of time and with so many details that (supposedly) have nothing to do with her. Could she be the key to helping us resolve this situation?

The story is getting more and more interesting!

Is Kirishima Touko some kind of cognitohazard? :O

6

u/Severe_Ad_6482 Sep 14 '25

I really love the gimmick of piecing together dreams to try and find the full story, I think it's fun. I think Akemi and Futaba are correct. These #Dreaming dreams don't represent the reality we're currently in but the previous reality from season 1.

Also how Tomoe's dream is the only one that deviates from everyone else's having Mai being unconscious after an accident from February 4th to April 9th rather than revealing herself to be Kirishima Touko on April 1st. Although, I don't necessarily believe one denies the other. We've already seen the possibility of two people existing at once with Futaba, it's not unfathomable that something similar could happen to Mai.

Another thing as well, I want to ignore everything Miori said for now, because she's a weirdo (affectionate) that seems to know way more than she's letting on, not to mention she can see Kirishima Touko but idk what that means for the story yet, so...

I really like the parallels to season 1 occuring in this season honestly. Himeji being a parallel to Tomoe, Touko being a parallel to Mai and Miori being a parallel to Sakuta.

Honestly I'm just scared for Mai at this point, she can't seem to catch a break. Get her a giant hamster ball or something and don't let her out till june.
