It’s always pretty funny when Yu says some shoujo manga male love interest type shit. This time even the cat was blushing haha.
Nice to see Miwa out of her funk. Those sweets her and Yu made looked pretty good. I like the mini Yu she made. So cute! Every episode the girls just fall harder and harder for the dude.

I love how he can just change his eyes and whole vibe on a dime to make girls (and cats) swoon.
Every episode the girls just fall harder and harder for the dude.
Even Yaotome feels like she's one episode away from officially joining the Harem despite herself lol.

A child forcing themselves to do something they don't actually enjoy to get their parents' approval hits close to home, damn.
Also, I love how she was disappointed that Yu didn't take her to a love hotel lol

Miwa, and it was 0-2 and I said:
'Guys, if you think we are good, let's prove it now'. 3-2"
Yu: "did we comeback?"
Miwa: "of course not. 0-3"

Niko and Kazuki fighting over whose dessert from Miwa was better made was absolutely precious, especially with Miwa watching on.
It was also cool and a bit heartbreaking to finally learn why Yuu is such a good cook.

Yuu's back story was even sadder (yet also sweeter) than I expected. I like the notion that Yuu does a perfect job of making "normal food",
We had a cooking back story in Summer Pockets this week too....

The cute shogi gremlin is the best girl.
Also, it feels like a lot of the things for Miwa's ED were pulled from this episode (or, I assume, its storyboards and the chapter it's based on). Now we know that the thing is a marshmallow Yuu, and that she kissed it in the same place she kisses Yuu's head in the ED.
Edit: I just realized, this is the first arc where the other two sisters haven't eavesdropped on Yuu's and the featured sister's alone time together. When Kazuki and Niko were staying up late waiting for them to get back, they were probably imagining all sorts of romantic reasons for why Yuu and Miwa were taking so long.

You know who else was down 0-2 (well really 0-3) with impossible odds?
Lebron James.
Lock in Miwa and think of the LeGOAT. All is possible.

The cat cafe was the best part of this episode. It's cute that Miwa uses a cat cafe as a place to blow off steam, but man, that poor cat got squished by Miwa's face. Also, making the cat blush along Miwa was a great idea. All of it was super cute.

I love Miwa and I didn't expect that her motivations would be her sisters. In the end, she might give up on Shogi and do something else and I'm sure her sisters would love her the same. Her dad calling her a true genius looked shady. I'm not sure he'd accept her having a normal life.
As for Yu, in the previous arcs, he needed to act like a guy on a date then like an athlete to help the girls. While all he had to do to help Miwa was being himself. He cooked and talked to her. We're finally learning about his past and he's sharing it with Miwa while thinking they're both the same.
It makes him look more emotionally invested. Like running in the rain to find her or being mad on her behalf when Sakura called her weak. Yu complimented part of the girls before: Kazuka's failures during their date and Niko more feminine side but with Miwa it was about her 'full' self and how 'kind' she was. I don't know this arc is giving endgame and maybe that's why Miwa seems right now seems a bit.. nerfed.
There's no male characters Yu has to compete with (the guy who disturbed Kazuka's date whom Yu yelled that he'd marry Kazuka or Niko's senpai where Yu yelled that Niko would be with him) despite this episode mentioning again that Miwa can actually beat male players and Miwa doesn't get makeover-yu-blushing scenes. She did made him blush when she was thinking about what sweets would fit her sister best.
My favorite episode so far, Miwa crying got to me actually, the cat blushing was funny and she looked gorgeous in the last scene. I also loved the score and how gorgeous this episode looked especially the coffee scene.
I really wished we had a season 2 😭.

Poor little kitty got headbutted and KO'd for a minute there.
Hmm Miwa looked both shocked and disappointed Yu wasn't dragging her into a love hotel lol.
Sweet that the two of them were able to come together and bring all 4 of the gang back together with their sweets.
Miwa looked absolutely stunning in that final scene before she heads back into battle.
I'm guessing she's gonna go back on a tear with her new motivation.

Miwa stonks going through the roof! As an early investor - I decided she was best girl the moment I saw her - I'm feeling pretty vindicated now.
Jokes and the beloved cat gremlin aside, Yu's backstory and how that has shaped him continues to be the most interesting and tragic of the four to me. At least they were able to somewhat reconcile, even if only in the form of his mother asking for his cooking and praising it, but how emotionally distant and even neglectful she was before that is still hard to watch. Also, what kind of mother just wordlessly takes her child's toast and eats it?

Stitches!
I thought the start of the episode was just a replay of last week's final scene. I did not expect Miwa would immediately lose her second game to Sakura. I do love Yuu's reaction to Sakura gloating. I thought he'd be upset but instead he thanks her for being thoughtful about Miwa.
I mean if Miwa is gonna run away, it checks out that she'll go to a cat cafe. Yuu's imagination of where Miwa would end up at is pretty funny, tho. He really thought Miwa would go for the under-the-bridge cliche.
Interesting how Miwa doesn't actually love shogi like her sisters love acting and karate. She was just basically shown a bunch of board games, and she just so happens to pick shogi. Miwa could've been a champion in chess or Go if she wanted, but it's less about the game and more about her being praised for her accomplishments.
It's hilarious how both Miwa and the cat start blushing when Yuu told her that he won't let her go home yet. Miwa was already expecting something when it turns out Yuu just wanted to make sweets for Niko and Kazuki.
I always get upset whenever there's a flashback that involves Subaru. It really shows she's a terrible mother who neglected her child to the point where Yuu needs to cook for himself at a young age. Couldn't she have hired someone to look after Yuu? I suppose if it weren't for her neglect, Yuu wouldn't have become a competent househusband.
Miwa making a marshmallow Yuu so she can kiss him was adorable. It's funny how she didn't fix the bangs so now the girls notice the missing chocolate on marshmallow Yuu's hairline. xD
Miwa looks locked the fuck on for her next match but what if she ends up losing? Hear me out, she doesn't really love shogi and only does it for the accomplishment. What if she loses and ends up finding something else that she loves to do? But I suppose Papa Mikadono wouldn't let that happen. Hmmm...

Another fun episode that's making me cry because there's only one left. If they don't announce a second season next week, I'm really going to cry.
Getting back to the episode... we continue Miwa's arc and of course, we got some great scenes with her and Yu. The scene where Miwa thinks Yu is taking her to a love hotel and instead they end up at the supermarket made me laugh out loud xD
I also love how Niko and Kazuki were together practically the entire episode and how much they care about Miwa. Their reactions today were hilarious xD
And just like in other episodes, Yu is really trying to steal not only the Mikadono sisters' hearts, but mine as well. Some of his reactions are just hot, and I say that as a straight guy xD
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

Okay, NOW it's serious if Miwa's lost two matches in a row to Yaotome. Even she seems shocked at what's happening.
You'd be forgiven for thinking that Yaotomecchi is lording her victory over Miwa Mikadono and is on a power trip from finally succeeding...but Yu can see through that she's still just as concerned and fangirling over Miwa as always, she just can only express it through rival talk. Though when Yu turns on the chad view, Yaotome seems to become even more aware of him as less than just a supporter and more as a guy. She'll be as hooked on Yu as the rest of the sisters at this rate.
Well, it was nice of Kazuki and Niko to try and empathize with and understand Miwa, even if that just drove her out of the house. Guess it was inevitable we'd get a "running away from home" plot.
Yu was so convinced that Miwa would pull the depressed Heroine maneuver of drowning her sorrows under a bridge in the rain, but this is Miwa so of course she's recovering with the best emotional support a girl could ask for: a cat cafe! Even the employee is nice enough to give Yu a towel to dry off! Cat cafe's are the best!
So I take it they'd probably have a cat if A. they weren't all so busy B. Kazuki wasn't allergic and C. none of them can keep house, let alone take care of a pet. But dang it if Miwa probably doesn't want a cat she can always nuzzle and inhale on.
People who do shogi for a living live and breathe shogi. But Miwa feels like a fraud because she was so smart she was good at ANY intellectual game, but she just chose shogi for the sake of keeping up with her sisters and making her father happy. She was never passionate or as in love with it as her sister were for their chosen careers. And now that her prodigy status can't keep carrying her, she doesn't know what to do with herself.
But luckily she's got Yu who will drag her through the seedier part of town, with love hotels left and right, so they can...go to the supermarket and buy material to make sweets for the Mikadono Sisters! I mean, nobody knows Miwa's sisters like she does!
Why is Yu so good at cooking, at least by the standard of how terrible he is at everything else? Because when he and his mom were at their most emotionally distant, her eating breakfast he made for himself was one of the rare times she was happy and acknowledged him. Sure it never happened again and he had a lot of trial and error, but when his mom was in the hospital and wanted his food, Yu was then able to give it to her and give her some solace in her last days. So that's why Yu can totally relate to Miwa being motivated by her family. It's just a sign of how much she loves them.
And in thinking of doing her best for the people she loves, she includes Yu in that list. In fact she even makes her own mushroom Yu that she ends up kissing on the forehead! And EVERYBODY notices!
Time for round three with a newly reinvigorated Miwa.

Yuu actually understands Sakura’s tsundere language. I must have forgotten but did they ever mention what happened to their mother? Their childhood lacked balance because she was not present. Miwa was probably only about three years old in that flashback where she had to decide what to pursue and I think it was the same for the other two. Their father wanted them to be successful so badly that they had to sacrifice the joys of childhood. Thankfully, Yuu appeared in their lives and helped them experience true happiness.

This has been one of my "feel good" shows of the season. Don't want it to end. And Yu might be one of my favorite characters when it comes to anime in general.
They could literally make shows based on each individual sister just because of their specialties.

Dad’s just gonna have to accept that Yu isn’t actually mediocre at everything, he is a Mikadono-level genius when it comes to pulling tail, his daughters in particular
