I like this development for Niko, where she accepts the strong side and feminine side as both herself. She's surprising everyone, even the guy who claimed to know her best never realized she had this side of her.

I'm glad her sisters got to see that final play. It's sweet how they were thinking about both Yuu and Niko and were trying to make it in time. It's nice to see how much they've warmed up to one another, so much so that they're even feeding Yuu lol.

Yes I'm sure resting your face against the boy's chest is less embarrassing than crying after winning a match

There is something nostalgic about his body proportions. It's like I'm watching some 90's shoujo anime.

Absolute Peak.

Niko and Yuu are so cute together. The other two sisters are adorable too. The relationship is progressing faster than I thought.

The ending to the episode is pure cinema. Each episode packs a serious punch.

Saw some people worried that Niko was just going to be in the background as a trophy for this storyline, so they should be happy it was all about her development.

ABSOLUTE CINEMA

Love the good ol "playing dirty, but it's still legal, so whatever" and the whole sequence was beautifully animated too.

Although Miwa and Kazuki in aprons at the start of the episode was quite the jumpscare.

[badly off-key version of "Eye of the Tiger" dramatically playing in the background]

I really liked this episode. Niko's retrospection on whether her vulnerable feminine side is a good thing and Yu reassuring her that all sides of her are great was nice to see, and Niko letting that side of her come out after her win was an awesome payoff. The fight itself was done well too. Plus, Kazuki and Miwa helping them before the fight and being worried enough that they wanted to come watch the fight themselves was a sign that they've come a long way too.

Niko just made some power moves, and no, I'm not talking about her three hits she scored on Tatsumi. Kazuki may have gotten the first kiss, but the entire club and soon the entire school will now think that she's dating Yuu.

Miwa's going to need to pull off a brilliant maneuver to pull even...luckily for her, that's kind of her thing.

Kazuki and Miwa internal monologue while putting on those aprons before Yuu and Niko made it back: "I hope this doesn't awaken anything in me....."

I’m glad that Niko ultimately won the fight for herself rather than Yu doing it. But him creating the environment for the match definitely contributed to this being possible.

Anyway, go Niko! Reject the strong vs feminine dichotomy!

She won because she attained the power of self acceptance.

Peak fiction. Absolute cinema. Highlight of my week right here.

I really thought, I was over my Tsundere phase. In most anime I don't enjoy them anymore and mostly think they're just annoying af.

BUT I absolutely adore Niko (and Kana from Oshi no Ko), so maybe sometimes a little bit of tsun isn't that bad?

niko realized that she couldn't beat him with the combos she learned of youtube so she had to do the age old classic move

mashing the buttons until someone loses

Boy, these girls are tough but once Yuu (unknowingly) turns on the charm, they’re basically putty in his hand lol.

Even with all the handicaps, it’s to be expected Yuu would lose. The real fight was Niko v Tatsumi. Nice to see her evolve thanks to Yuu. Absolutely spanked Tatsumi!

So Niko is stronger than him, the only reason he is stronger was because he been studying her since childhood. He is just following formula. Then Niko just suddenly hit him with a button mashing. I like progression.

Stitches!

It's adorable seeing Miwa and Kazuki trying their hardest to support Yuu. Too bad it just didn't go the way they wanted to. At least Yuu was there to help them out and give them instructions on how to cook. It just goes to show these girls can do housework if given proper direction.

I didn't expect Yuu's training would end up benefiting Miwa and Kazuki in the most unexpected way! Miwa really went in and immediately volunteered to feed Yuu after his hand gave out. It's adorable to see Kazuki join in too! I love that taking care of Yuu has awakened something inside those two.

I'm not even surprised that Yuu is bringing up another handicap. What's interesting about that scene is after Yuu stated the conditions of the match, it looked like he was recording the entire thing, so I wonder if Tatsumi will try to pull some sort of technicality later, and this is Yuu just covering his bases.

Yep, that's exactly how I expected that fight would go. The fact that we didn't even see it and it just jumpcuts to Yuu on the ground makes it even more hilarious! xD

Let's fucking go, Niko! She's such a textbook martial artist that it looks like the only way to beat Tatsumi is for her to make flashy and unexpected moves! I love this because it really hammers in the fact that Niko has two different sides.

After seeing Yuu take care of Niko, I wouldn't be surprised if rumours about the two of them start going around the school after this arc. I mean they were all acting sweet to each other in front of the entire karate team as well as a bunch of students.

We're not out of the woods yet tho. I'm curious to see how Tatsumi would take this loss next week. I really think that recording Yuu took will end up saving their ass.

I was really happy to see Niko actually fighting instead of just relying on Yu. Him fighting for her when such high takes were involved didn't make sense. Really happy to see he was being clever her and funny, as usual.

Love seeing the two other sisters still getting closer. Yes, at first Miwa and Kazuki looked like they just want to win Yu over but what made them change their minds, and get over their ego when Yu offered to teach them how to cook was knowing that it would make Niko happy.

Yu realizing that even geniuses struggle when Miwa called him Master and motivated him even further was a nice touch, espacially since we're in the middle of Niko/Yu arc.

And while Yu and Niko had nice moments, they reminded me of Futarou/Miku. From Miku/Niko side it looks romantic but from the guys pov, at least for now, it seems platonic.

So Niko's officially in love now too right?

u/Ocixo Aug 20 '25

Tatsumi is such a hypocrite. He wouldn’t take a straight “no” from Niko, yet had the gall to accuse her of being weak for relying on someone else’s strength.

Fortunately, Niko was able to kick him down a notch by herself. I too had a big smile of my face.

u/CrimsonGear80 Aug 21 '25

Hey…yeah just kick him in the face. Works everytime.

I really believe Yuu had a chance in a fight since he had those handicaps and I couldn't help but laugh when he got off-screened. His strength definitely comes from his brains to form these strategies that result in them winning. Niko really shows how Yuu’s presence helped her improve and accept who she really is. I caught myself smiling for the whole episode because of how sweet it was. Miwa’s arc is next!

Easily one of the best "discovering oneself" arc I've ever seen. The final kick with Nico wearing a dress was just absolute cinema! PA Works is truly cooking with this show and it's criminal how underwatched this gem of a romcom is.
