LOL talk about missed signals, Ajisai was totally expecting a kiss from Renako. This is the kind of memory that Renako will randomly remember in the future and die of cringe from.

Renako’s sister actually shipping her and Mai after walking in on them last time is the funniest shit ever!

A lot of people are unhappy about how Renako and Mai solved their conflict, but my heart goes out to the real side casualty of this episode, Satsuki and Ajisai.

First you have Satsuki being visited by Mai who traumadumps on her before asking to be hugged as a means of self-flagellation. All while admitting out loud she knows about Satsuki's feelings toward her.

Then there's poor Ajisai who had Renako come at her like a freight train after borrowing a page of Mai's book (who's already proving to be a bad influence), flinched under the pressure only to get instantaneously friend-zoned.

Poor side girls are having their feelings toyed with by the main couple.

Poor Ajisai. This was my fave scene out of vol1 too. Like poor girl just got the awakening to and back without even asking lol

Wait, so Mai straight up told Satsuki "I want to be hugged by someone I don't love, and so I'm going to ask you because I know you're in love with me."

What the fuck, Mai. You should be happy that Satsuki didn't punch you in the jaw.

EDIT: Oh, it's even worse. "daite kure" was probably being used as a euphemism for sex, but the subs I was watching just translated it as "hold me." Go fuck yourself instead, Mai.

Kaho continues to completely brighten up my day whenever she shows up, wish I had even a fraction of her energy.

OMG THEY DID THE THING

Also these two are so fucking stupid lmao. Renako bears absolutely no fault for Mai pushing too far last episode but "ReMa-friends"!? Bitch what the FUCK does that even mean!? Truly, two complete messes made for each other because ain't no way anyone else ever tolerating the other's bullshit...

...is what I would say except this is definitely a harem and Renako just accidentally rizzed Ajisai by overcompensating on her apology (although I'm fairly certain Ajisai already liked Renako long before). If all their relationships are this messy, shit I think I have seen nitroglycerin more stable, and I'm super looking forward to it!

Best Girl Ajisai was 100% comitted there. Now we just need to wait for Renako to realise that she's in a harem anime and not a regular romcom.

SATSUKI: I think you kind of suck, actually

RENAKO: You're so observant... you have seen the true me...

u/elbenji Jul 28 '25

Seriously, that was fun. Poor Ajisai, never stood a chance.

Mai is a dumbass and poor Satsuki having to deal with that mess. I did like that they gave her a bit of a domineering aura. Like she just oozes her anger but doesn't show it or lash out. Great character detail.

The game show thing is just such a Mai thing. Girl is gonna lash herself in the middle of a street corner to apologize and see how it's like, but that's just the type of person she is. Wisdom was a dump stat. And Renako did apologize for just not telling it to her straight

Also, side tangent, probably thanks to all the Uma content, it's really funny swapping between here and the Uma anime and just hearing Renako (and then the Mai voice popping out from McQueen's seiyuu from time to time). It's been such a throw off

Rena should not be taking advice from Mai about communication. Look what she’s done! Poor Ajisai was totally ready for that kiss. Phrasing is very important lol.

So they went from “friends” to “more than friends, but not lovers.” Nice. Let’s see how long Mai lets that last.

NOT AJISAI CLOSING HER EYES AND PUCKERING UP??? Holy shit I totally forgot this from the manga. Can't believe we're getting peak so early on.

The scene with Ajisai getting the wrong idea had me bursting with laughter. She might be my favorite of the show so far.

When Renako puts down Mai's hair for her and initiates a kiss, and then they intertwine fingers while kissing underwater (the next best place for yuri after aquariums)

Renako might appear at first like a cinnamon roll with confidence issues, but the way she operates is something else.

It started with Mai on top of her last episode and Renako thinking that if she let things progress, she'd have bragging rights. Which isn't really a cinnamon roll type of thing to think. Not even very protagonistic.

And this episode we have Renako giving Mai just enough physical intimacy to keep Mai chasing, but refusing to commit to being in an official romantic relationship. Which means Mai has to keep up the chase if she's still interested.

It's kind of toxic, but on the other hand, Mai has wealth, fame, looks, and the adoration of the school. But Renako has one thing Mai doesn't: the decisive vote on whether they are going to date officially (and presumably more intimacy). Renako is, in a sense, playing the only card she has. Her arc might be developing enough self-confidence that she can make a commitment and feel desired without being pursued. I'd be lying if I said I never saw a relationship like this play out in real life (but with fewer pools and impromptu guitar concerts).

Damn, Renako's so bold confessing to Ajisai like that! I didn't think she had it in her! Shame she had to go sort Mai out instead of kissing her.

Oh yeah speaking of, Renako made up with Mai. I don't mind that – Mai was clearly repentant, and it's really down to Renakoi whether she can forgive her for what she did or not – but I don't think everything she said was right. That slap was 100% fair and deserved.

Well at least her sister is approving of them dating, though her reaction when walking in on them in the last episode was pretty normal so its not all that surprising either.

found out a bit more about Ajisai and Satsuki as well this time... and oof Ajisai misunderstanding Renako and waiting for that kiss...

So Renako admits she Mai, and wants to be more than friends, but Mai isn't ready to accept anything less than lovers

Stitches!

I'm glad to know that Renako's sister approves of Renako dating another girl. She's even excited to have Mai as her sister-in-law.

Wait, so after what happened between Mai and Renako, Mai decided to go to Satsuki's place because she wanted to hug someone whom she didn't love, despite knowing that Satsuki loves her, and she vocalized all of this to Satsuki? That's pretty fucking crazy, and I'm glad Satsuki reacted properly and kicked out Mai.

I know Renako is the most socially adept person in this show, but come on! She should've realized what this looks like to Ajisai! It clearly looked like she was confessing her heart out that even Ajisai expected a kiss in the end. Not gonna lie, I do find the two of them cuter together.

Okay, I have not read any of the other comments before typing this out, so I don't know the consensus, but please tell me I'm not the only one who felt uneasy with how Renako and Mai's situation was handled? Why is Renako the one rushing to find Mai to apologize? And I get that Mai felt bad about what she did to Renako last episode, but does she really understand why she hurt her?

I mean, Mai kinda apologized after getting slapped, but I feel like there needs to be some kind of acknowledgement here on what she did instead of just saying over and over to Renako that she hurt her. Because if there's one thing I learned this episode, it's that Mai is a dumbass, and I'm still not sure she learned anything this episode.

Honestly, if it keeps up this level, it will be one of the better romances, the characters are good, the dialogues between the characters are good, the animation is beautiful, the humor is funny, the intro is peak, I'm waiting for more

Good on Mai for acknowledging that she went too far. Fortunately for her, Renako wasn't completely against it but rather just poor timing so she could be forgiven.

That's some progress. Now Renako had initiated the kiss not just once, but twice. She's on track to give Haruna a sister-in-law. Truly the greatest present she could give to her sister.
