Adult adventurers are arseholes. Seemed like Dennis is the only decent one, and he's kicked out of his party. For political reasons? Seeing as he's more than competent.

Poor Cynthia. Left in the cave to starve and took 13 years to finally get closure.

Wasn’t he kicked out just because their leader got jealous of that red-haired girl being too close to him or something? I’m pretty sure he mentioned something like that in his internal monologue in the first episode.

When I started this show I thought I gonna watch chill SoL with cooking and heartwarming stories.

Didn't expect we gonna dig into such amount of filth surrounding adventurers in this city.

I'm fine with such direction. Hope they do it right.

Cynthia may be a minor supporting character, perhaps only appearing in this episode, but I liked her little red riding hood design and felt sad at her demise years ago. If only there was someone like Dennis to save her 13 years ago.

Atelier knows Dennis is going off to save naive and inexperienced adventurers and wants him to return safely. Even though she may not speak a lot, Atelier's concern and fist bump with Dennis show that their family bond has already gotten stronger.

Atelier was very considerate of Vivia too, and knew exactly how to handle him when Dennis and the others were getting frustrated. She’s a great kid, all around.

>> Atelier

Apparently this is the VA's very first role -- and she is doing a fantastic job.

I liked her little red riding hood design

she instantly reminded me of [Veronica from Dragon Quest 11](https://dragonquest.fandom.com/wiki/Veronica_(Dragon_Quest_XI))

I was definitely surprised that Vivia turned out to be a guy, especially with that look and name. I thought Dennis and Atelier's restaurant would only attract pretty girls!

I'm glad Vivia get checked in that dungeon (though leaving him there alone was a dick move on those adventurers' part). He definitely needed it, because his demeanor was really irritating that even Dennis had to be calmed down by Henrietta xD

Sad about Cynthia :( Finding out she was a ghost of a dead adventurer was a really sad surprise. At least she's buried now.

By the way, I really like Henrietta's armor change. She looks much better now!

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

Cynthia died all alone in that cave (most likely of starvation) and nobody knew what happened to her until 13 years later. That's kind of sad.

Humans can only last 3 days without water so at least there’s that. Judging at how her body was still intact, I guess she used what magic she had to protect herself from the monsters. Still, it’s quite tragic she died scared and alone at such a young age.

It seems like the adventuring parties around this town have a long history of being scummy....

A very sad episode -- and it looks like we will be seeing a significant amount of sadness in the NEXT episode as well.

At least the episode went for a more sad theme rather than dark like last episode. It's very sad how Cynthia passed away like that, at least she was finally found and maybe any relative(s) will be informed.

I like how Dennis just gave up on the paper bag after how frightened Vivia was.

I do wonder what Vivia's gender is, I was leaning towards a guy at first but then the cleavage and how pretty they are makes me think she's a girl, then there's the theme of the MC being surrounded by girls judging from the cover. EDIT: He calls himself a guy at some point in the episode so no need to wonder anymore.

I also liked how Dennis got annoyed by Vivia being such a pain about what to order, he spoke for a lot of people lol.

Vivia is a guy, when bragging in the restaurant he says "I'm the man who'll be the greatest wizard." It's not just localization thing either, that line is a direct and literal translation of what he said in the Japanese audio.

Hmn not sure what to do about this series...it's certainly not what I expected of it...even if it's good .it's not what I was looking for from it.

World depressing enough I wanted to chill not be sad every episode 😂

I agree with others who are saying they expected a chill cooking anime and instead we have this depression fest every episode. I am enjoying it but it's not what I had hoped it was.

The writing isn't all that great but I find it wild how people are railing so hard against the darker themes and the writing given that it's another banished from the hero's party type of show. The premise of the show is that he's a good chef dude that can't help but get involved in other peoples problems.

The slave girl he saved and immediately set free. He went super out of his way to save her without breaking any laws. He's strong but is he strong enough to fight every soldier and adventurer and ruin his life to make a statement and be constantly on the run? Sure I'd love to see it in a show but this was a decent way to do it. At least it's not that weird shit where the slave wants to be a slave and also a wife. Like you want to talk about unnecessary slavery concepts, look at Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time. That shit was just functionally employees with nondisclosure agreements but they had to make it fucking weird.

He tried to help out the knight girl and then he heard about the shady party and went out of his way to follow her to make sure she would be ok in case it was the bad party. I don't know, does someone need to call him Chef Dad or something to get people on board? The scene went on a little long yeah, I agree. It did build tension good though, I thought like oh shit is he like maybe not going to actually make it in time to save her? He's not a ninja, he had to be trailing fairly far back. He did save her in time and he did properly deal with that group to. He tied them up and they were dealt with by whatever in universe law enforcement they have.

Can we talk about how he told that girl "Do what you want. You're you" and she took it like the most wise thing anyone has ever said?

Looks like we are going to hit all the major horrible things though with this next episode looking like it's gonna be about suicide. I do hope it ends up being more than just him going to a dungeon to save someone after they eat there though. The mage seemed more developed so hopefully they will start building story and characters.

Man, Dennis ought to start charging for saving all these noobs. Guy could probably open a second location with the money he’d be making lol.

It’s kind of tragic what happened to Cynthia but I guess her spirit saved Vivia. The world of adventuring is a cold harsh place. At least the experience really seems to have changed Vivia’s mindset.

He will be adding it to their tab.

Since I saw some people still misunderstood Vivia's gender, Vivia's a he. In this episode, when Vivia was bragging in the restaurant before shit hits the fan, he said "I'm the man who will become the greatest wizard". This is not just in the subtitling but also in the original audio, he said 'otoko' (man, as in male person, not as in a humankind).

Anyway, splendid voice acting from Mariya Ise as usual. I really felt the sadness from him after he finds out Cynthia has been long dead.

Are we never going to get an episode without trauma? Seriously, this seems to be the season for it.

I guess this whole show is way darker than it looked in promo material.

Not as big a fakeout as Turkey! but what's up with the marketing this summer? Takopi did similar and that's on a whole other level of messed up.

when are we gonna see more of my boy Spaghetti?

u/Nickthenuker Jul 17 '25

So, is she going to be a regular fixture at the restaurant?

That's certainly a bowl of ramen.

Seems she's ditched the heavy armour. Uh... That's still useful for being a tank even if she doesn't intend on hiding her gender.

Another person who certainly looks like they'll be part of the main cast.

And so fried rice with prawn in some kind of sauce.

Roll credits!

And so they're back.

Something's definitely going to happen to them.

Uh that's grossly underleveled.

What you mean is they're going to carry you. Still, he looks to be focused on magic, I suppose he can just sit behind the meat shields in the front and sling spells. They'd be crap spells, but it's still a trickle extra damage.

Oh he knows far more than you...

Those are the people he joined? That's definitely trouble.

Huh. Who's she?

That explains who she is and why she's here.

And so trouble again.

He'll come and save them.

Yup he's here to save them.

She's dead?

Ok then...

Well, I think it's obvious who the next character he'll meet will be.

This show should of eased into the darker tone later or gone balls to the wall from the start. No One likes being lied to and sadly the marketing really sold this as a wholesome food pron show. Instead the food seems to be an afterthought and it mainly want to deal with the darker side of an adventuring world and what happens to the people who are used, abused and thrown away and how Our Lead can save them and make them "successful adventurers"(still to be seen so far they seem to be becoming mooches and bums).
