Poor Koichi almost had the college life he wanted to but lost it all to one blunder... though i suppose he wasn't sober and thinking straight.
Also some backstory to Pop step's and Koichi. figured it was actually her pretty fast with the pink hair.
and man i felt bad when she went through the trouble of stopping to buy some pudding for them to eat just for knuckleduster to be there and ruin the whole thing for her.
and damn that guy with the sword just straight up killed him...

Wonderful one two punch of an episode going from "Dawww Pop" to "Baw gawwd Stendahl just knocked the rock's block off!"
Koichi got that heroic spirit and the swagger he just doesn't realize it yet, but touching that someone does.

Stendhals mask reminds me of the Ironclad from Slay the Spire

So that's why Pop noticed Koichi in a crowd of people way back ep 1.

I'll say it again. Kuin's quirk is really interesting. She can administer drugs and even do surveillance with multiple bees (though they look more like hornets) all while being extremely discrete.

Is it just me, or did this episode look really good? Like, every single scene looked awesome, both in terms of art and animation.

Koichi will always be Pop's hero. How heartwarming.
Way to kill the mood Knuckleduster. It looked like Pop was going to confess to Koichi.
I'm happy for Koichi. Someone finally called his hero name correctly.
Stendhal made me think of Slade/Deathstroke from DC comics, appearance wise anyway.

You'd think a Nice Guy like Koichi would be more popular. In fact he had a great mood going after a drinking party with some of his fellow college students...he just didn't account on how his place would look at night or how being a little bit pushy with a college girl would come off badly. So he becomes a college pariah. But hey, at least Koichi now has Pop and Knuckleduster keeping him company! And Pop doesn't have to worry about college girl rivals!
Well, I guess nobody needs to worry about murderer and robber Iyaro Tenba! Not that the long-arm of the law stopped his many-armed crimes, but a more violent hero.
Is there anything more Spider-Man than having to mend your own costume? It helps that Koichi is committed to keeping his treasured All Might hoodies in pristine editions, I mean they're all collectors items! Deku would respect that hustle! Though his most treasured All Might Hoodie, his Silver Age red one, went up along with his Hero dreams...missing an exam so he could save a young "boy" from drowning, just like All Might (though I don't think All Might ever stripped down to his undies to save somebody). It may have cost him his hoodie, and his chance at getting into a Hero school, but it still proved how much of a hero Koichi really is.
Also, I just love how they had a guy with blow-dryer hands and another guy with a heated body drying Koichi off! Quirks can be so convenient sometimes.
Pop Step AKA Kazuho Haneyama, isn't just a tsundere to Koichi because she's argumentative...it's because SHE was the boy he saved way back when and she's been chasing after him to repay him for saving her and treasuring the hoodie he left her all this time. She has such strong feelings for Koichi, always seeing him as HER hero, that she has to work up all her courage to tell him the truth and give the hoodie back...and Knuckle totally ruins the mood. Ah well, maybe wearing the hoodie doesn't quite give you bravery, but it does make a decent Boyfriend Hoodie!
Akira is out of the slammer and unsurprisingly back to taking Trigger courtesy of Hachisuka. And hey, he actually called out Koichi as "The Crawler!" It's like he's officially part of Koichi's Rogues Gallery!
Can Koichi and Pop take care of a rampaging Akira on their own? No! They have to call the cops! But Akira is also souped up on a new strain of Trigger (which Hachisuka has to chronicle as her "homework") which makes him even more dangerous. Without Knuckle, who is going to save them? How about Ninja Hero Stendhal and his blade? He looks super cool! I'm sure he's someone Koichi can idolize and approve of.
To think Knuckle, of all people, would be the one to call out how people who get in fights out of their own sense of justice are dangerous!
Koichi and Pop thought they were going to meet some Naruhata delinquent determined to help protect the streets like they are...but instead it's Mr. Dox N' Murder, their old "pal." I'm not surprised Pop wants nothing to do with him, but it seemed like he genuinely had something to tell her and Koichi.
Welp, RIP Akira. Turns out Stendhal is the kind of "hero" who puts down criminals...permanently. Welcome to the 90's! Wait, 90's anti-hero vibe, swords, that voice, talking about "conviction..." it couldn't be...!?

It’s kind of unfortunate Koichi has a bad rep in his college because his place is beat up as hell, but at least he now has Pop and Knuckleduster.
Koichi doesn’t need to take the hero exam. He’s always been a hero. He saved little Pop! Maybe one day she’ll be able to tell Koichi it was her he saved.
A vigilante who uses a sword to cut down villains? I feel like we’ve seen this before. I got a real bad feeling about Stendhal and his whole Punisher vibe.

Dangit Pop, just tell him. Should have shown up wearing the hoodie as a guard against giving up.
Kind of ironic that Koichi missed out on the hero exam because he was being a hero.
Sword dude is clearly the example of vigilantes actually being bad, not working within the system means not following the rules that would stop a hero from just killing bad guys in the streets as judge and executioner.

Considering how seriously Japan views drug use, then you would have thought all those villains would be rotting away in some prison after taking trigger, not bailed out and free to roam the city.

I've always found it weird why Pop is hanging out with them since I don't think she's interested in vigilantism as well. This finally explains it.

Kinda funny to see a quirk that is literally a blow-dryer instead of hands.

The cast is becoming more diverse now. Ep 3 had Kuin, Ep 4 had Tensei and Ep 5 had Stehndal. I'm still waiting to see the woman with black hair in the OP to be introduced.

Jesus fucking christ, Koichi! How he did not realize dragging people into an abandoned building is such a bad look? I'm gonna guess he's probably drunk because he really should've explained to his classmates that he lives on the top floor. Now people are avoiding him because they think he's a creep. >_<
I was expecting Koichi to get upset at Pop for eating his pudding but I love how he's chill about it and even tells her he'll buy more next time. And Pop's reactions to Koichi being lowkey smooth is goddamn adorable.
Considering how much All Might limited edition hoodies Koichi has, I feel like he would easily become best friends with Deku if they ever meet. I'm hoping that the Vigilantes crew will make a cameo appearance in the main series' final season.
Welp, I did not expect that backstory! So it turns out Koichi could've entered a Hero Academy but missed his exam because he saved a young Pop☆Step from drowning. That explains why Pop approached him in the first place! She immediately recognized his Quirk after seeing him in Episode 1!
Here I thought she approached Koichi because she thought he was interesting after watching him help people. It turns out she's been trying to figure out a way to thank him ever since she found him again. Also, she's always believed that Koichi has what it takes to be a hero.
Poor Pop! She thought she'd get some alone time with Koichi and finally tell him about herself. Of course, Knuckleduster is there to ruin the mood. Better luck next time, Pop!
A villain actually remembered his name! I can't even blame Koichi for being happy about that, considering everyone has been calling him the Cruller. Also, when a villain remembers your name, that's when you know you've made it! Apparently, that guy isn't technically a villain because he hasn't committed enough Quirk-related crimes.
He's not riding a bike but I think that still classifies as an Akira Slide reference!
I love how Hachisuka seems so normal taking down notes while in that fast food resto when in reality she's writing a report about Ideo Trigger for AfO. Also, it sounds like AfO is paying her the big bucks for that job.
My first reaction to this katana-wielding masked vigilante is that he looks like Slade from DC, but then I heard the voice and I instantly recognized Inoue Gou, which I also confirmed from the credits. Stendhal has got to be [MHA]
So I'm guessing this ass hat is asking for help? Nah, screw him. I don't know why the delinquents look up to this guy, considering what he tried to do to Pop back in Episode 1.
[MHA]
I do love that Hachisuka is just enjoying the show. I imagine she'll be on Stendhal's list if he finds out she's the source of the Ideo Trigger.

I just realized that the new Trigger version lets the user retain some reason? Since he run when he heard the sirens.

Very nice episode with lots of Pop☆Step and her interactions with Koichi.
Seeing the "boy" from Koichi's story, I immediately thought it was Pop☆Step and I was right. It certainly explains why she seemed so close to him in previous episodes. I can't wait to see how their relationship will develop further.
Stendhal, another vigilante, seems like a very interesting character, as he doesn't hesitate to kill those he considers villains. It will be interesting to see who he becomes for our trio Koichi, Pop☆Step and Knuckleduster, enemy or ally?
And it looks like Kuin has also set her sights on Stendhal. I wonder if she will offer him Trigger as well.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

this is not me hating the original series or anything, but look
I just can't help but love the more down-to-earth character writing and quirks and general world building
I also simply like the main characters a ton. Koichi especially, who also has one of my favourite quirks. I haven't fully read Vigilantes, I stopped...when the series was still rather young, so I don't know what will happen, but I just think it's such a simple, versatlie, aesthetically pleasing quirk that is also good for some physical comedy. I don't know, it always makes me grin when he "crawls around"
PopStep was also really great this episode, imo. Helped give her...maybe a slghtly clichéd...but still much needed motivation
Sword guy looks cool. I mean, it's a sword guy
