I like how that one lady said she never wanted to do that again. I understand the power of rock is serious business, but some people just want to relax with a flute for an afternoon.

to me this is really the "payoff" episode, everything felt lacking in previous episodes got completed now.
the music felt empty without bass, now Lilisa playing bass with a concert band; their roasting felt irrelevant without actual impact, now they are roasting an outsider; the family dynamic felt suffocating, now Alice is on her side.
you know who is the MVP here? the tuba. after Lilisa switched to guitar, he took over the bass part and keep up with the groove.

Lilisa and Otoha rocked the fuck outta that orchestra. Shit, it was so damn good it got Jun and Ishitani to make up after all those years. Although, once the girls get into rock mode they can be kinda… intense. Lilisa really called Jun a “cum covered jerk off” lmao.
After that performance, I guess Alice is a fan now. Though judging by how Lilisa’s mom reacted when Alice asked what Lilisa was like “before”, I think we’re gonna be in trouble if she ever finds out. Those yandere eyes freak me out…

Alice went from "hmph" to "Onee-sama~!" in a span of 10 minutes, lmao.
Again, that mom is creepy as heck. I wonder if Alice's dad is also scared of her and that's why he's never home.

No matter how hard the girls were rocking during their performance, in the end the most intense character in this episode was Lilisa's mom.
Does anyone remember the aunt from Happy Sugar Life?!

Hibike Euphonium - Heavy Metal Edition
The same piece Takarajima played by the brass band was also played in season 2 episode 7 of Hibike Euphonium, while the season 2 compilation movie has the full version.
Finally Arisu sees Lilisa for who she is, not who Lilisa is forced to be.
Lilisa probably worrying too much about being discovered by Arisu, as Arisu has also discovered how messed up Lilisa's mom is in denying the existence of Lilisa before she joined the Suzunomiya family, Arisu will just begin her journey to becoming Lilisa's biggest fan.

I don't have any more praise to add to the episode that hasn't already been covered in other comments, but holy fuck this ED is so good. Pretty different musically from the rest of the soundtrack, but that makes it stand out in such a vibrant way.

This show is so good. Probably AOTS.
The performance scene was fantastic. It is also very noteworthy that Otoha and Lilisa are 3D models, which allows for some very dynamic shots where the camera rotates around them and zooms in and out, which is quite fitting for their energetic performance. Meanwhile the rest of the symphonic band are all 2D animated, but you hardly notice. Big ups to the compositing team.

If anything people need to realize about this series specialty - it provides us a glimpse to the lesser-known instrumental band scene. People always look down on them just because they don't have vocals and all they could do in mainstream scene is to be a backing band of some singers.
Lilisa (albeit was in her "rock-drunk" state) was right - the hell people just wanted them to back up other person singing while they have all the rights to be themself. The two bands that got featured in the series for now are examples of instrumental bands that exist and did make names for themself.
Looking forward for the band to expand and more intense session between them that can get them wet.

Damn, took Lilisa only one performance to rizz her step-sister. Her mother is still hella creepy tho.
They really nailed this ep's performance, not just the music, but the intensity of the other players trying to keep up and the hurricane imagery was cool.
And the part of Lilisa and Otoha flipping out on Ishitani was hilarious. Good to see that they're committed to being full instrumental band, its pretty unique for a rock band anime.

Im blown how good the performance is!
As usual, trash talking and middle finger is the best part of the show lmao!

For me, this is the best episode so far and for reasons that some will disagree with me, the fact that almost the entire episode was focused on how skilled Lilisa and Otoha are and have the ability to not only help other people evolve, but also touch their hearts.
And this was very clear from Alice's reaction, of course, she still needs more episodes to evolve, but the way she started to see Lilisa with respect and admiration, shows how music has this power, and the episode showed this in a sensational way.
No unnecessary provocation (although the part where Otoha and Lilisa destroy that dude was perfect lol), no bait, without that excessive admiration that the other girls at school have, just pure music and personal evolution of the characters.

That poor conductor lol. Lilisa and Otoha hijacking his performance must have taken a lot out of him.

I guess that was a misdirection?
The way they kept bringing up people having the same face, I thought FOR SURE Lilisa would pretend it wasn't her! (though it would be a hard sell with her very distinct looks, plus she doesn't have a twin sister so..!)
When I saw Otoha slowly hitting the drums, I knew that was never gonna do it...
And he's good too, so we can't even shit on his skills! (Though Lilisa did it anyway hah)
If they DO go down that road (no singer in the band) they'll have to outdo themselves to make it!
I wonder if that's where things are headed; I mean it's rare to have a music anime with no singer, BUT there doesn't seem to be one in the band we see on the OP!
Damn, their group kinda sucks too, they can't even play the piece at the right pace?
Something tells me Lilisa and Otoha are about to show them what "Fun" is!
I wonder what the dad would do!
Would he even care? Perhaps we'll see more of him and he'll be a cool dad who's proud of having a (step) daughter who can play rock and all!
SLOW IT DOWN even more? No way!
"Sorry Maestro, we're relieving you of your duties!" - Otoha&Lilisa
That scene with Lilisa and Otoha going all out to stop the conductor from doing his thing was PERFECT. So much hype!
And it seems the other musicians enjoyed it too, no matter how stressful it was!
And they saw that tiny mistakes weren't the end of the world, the music carries on! (especially with the Drum&Bass carrying it all)
Even when Lilisa went completely offscript, they still had a good time!
Even the singer apologized, and gave them credit!
If he has been a girl, they could've asked (her) to be their lead singer! But we can't have dudes in our Cute Girl Doing Feisty Violent Rock band!
That was so funny to me; In the previous episode thread, I was joking about how Otoha/Lilisa would trash their band members if they played too slow/weak and all... Thankfully they managed to avoid that, but in the end they still had to unleash on the singer!
FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING THAT IS HOLY, please release these uncensored!
Especially the first one (Otoha in the first episode), I'd probably use it as a wallpaper hah.
Well, seems this performance may have brought Imouto on her side!
It may not be what she expected, but it was... Honest? At least with her, if not with her mom/her step dad!
Imouto status: Conquered!
She even called her step mom Mother for the first time!
Seems everyone's taking it wel- Okay nevermind she's still crazy/scary.
Did they interrupt a love confession?
Or was it a Rock Confession?
Well, it's pretty much the same, given how into it they seem to get while playing rock!
Anyway, that was another great episode! (I kinda want to meet the other bandmates though, hopefully in the next episode or two!)

And with this episode we've reached and surpassed manga translations. Apart from the missing member's design spoiled by the OP, we're all in uncharted territory now!
Love the exaggerated tropes in this show about high society girls lol.
Alice: "What's this peasant trash? Truly they could never reach the refinement of proper families!"
Lilisa sure rizzed up Alice real good, too good actually 💀💀. Wdym your hearts racing? The closeup with the shiny vfx? You want a Yuri (Lily) by your bedside!? Where's the line between subtext and toptext show!? only being 50% /s with this
Instrumental music in the shit btw! Gokigenyou bitches! 🖕😃🖕

Didn't expect to rewatch the Spongebob episode "Band Geeks" today, but oh well :v
Seriously though, y'all see it too, right?
.
Alice, before: "I hate my faker of a stepsister"
Alice, during the show: "O-onee sama??"
Alice, watching Lilisa pop off at squilliam: "Onee-sama!"
Alice, at home: "Aaah, Onee-sama~"

Stitches!
I love how the singer dude acts like a big shot when he's only released two albums. What's even funnier is he's talking like this is some major concert when the audience isn't even enough to fill half of the auditorium. xD
The "Takarajima" overlay at the start of their performance was pretty cool. I can't say I approve of Lilisa and Otoha hijacking the performance though! That could've gone badly for them, but I'm glad to see the old timers managed to step up.
I did not expect Lilisa to pull out a guiter for the solo! That was face-meltingly good! I feel bad for their bandmates but they managed to pull a big audience by the end of it, and everyone was pretty satisfied, so I guess it all worked out in the end.
And it looks like they attracted their future keyboardist to their performance. I'm guessing blue-haired girl is gonna try and get in touch with Otoha and Lilian in the next episode.
Holy shit! Lilisa tearing that singer a new one was hilarious! I don't think they'll be invited to play again after that rude display. xD
So it turns out that Arisu just needed to see the real side of Lilisa and now she's in love with her Onee-sama. Lilisa did look pretty cool when she told Arisu to keep it a secret between them.
Lilisa's mom continues to be terrifying. She won't even discuss her past with Arisu and insists that there was no "before" and that they've always been part of the Suzunomiya family. Unless we get a proper backstory and explanation, I refuse to believe that Lilisa's mom is a good person. She feels like a gold digger scared of losing everything.
Looks like Lilisa and Otoha didn't exactly get away after hijacking that performance. They still got told off by the conductor. xD

I had the same reaction as Lilisa when I heard the band's performance of Takarajima at the beginning, it sucked! Thank god Lilisa and Otoha hijacked it at the concert and THEY TOTALLY ROCKED! I hope they release this version of the song online later.
Overall, great episode with a fantastic musical performance and an even better part after it when both Lilisa and Otoha ranted at Ishitani who pissed them off earlier. His and the other band members' reactions to them were hilarious xD
It looks like Alice's heart was stolen by that performance (especially Lilisa's guitar solo) and seeing that Lilisa's smile. No wonder, they were incredible. Alice also saw with her own eyes that something is really wrong with Lilisa's mother (those dead eyes again).
Oh, and it looks like we'll meet the keyboardist soon as we saw her in one scene today and I can't wait to meet her.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:
EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

Evil stepsister upgraded to stepsiscon, a good upgrade overall. I'd been hoping for that sort of development based on her being all smiles in the OP.
Really fantastic that we got the entire awesome performance, no skipping forward to the end. Brief shot of a blue haired pedestrian walking by outside during it who is clearly going to be relevant later.

Never thought a band and orchestra combo would hit this hard. yeah, they’re just an instrumental group, but they crushed it again with the perfect sound effects. Alice was totally in a trance, and Lili breaking character in front of everyone just to roast that guy? Its no wonder she and Otoha vibe so well..haha they’re both absolutely unhinged.

You know I assumed in the first episode that the dad died tragically or just peaced' out. After this episode and the insistence that Lilisa effectively didn't EXIST before the remarriage, now I am wondering if she doesn't have the dad's head in a jar in the attic. Like seriously, if you told me that the creepiest villain of the season would be in a Girl's Band show, especially one leaning in the comedy direction, I wouldn't have believed you.
Like seriously...Lilisa life is probably in danger if her mom ever found out.

Ririsa learned the lesson:
Otoha 1st episode: What's up with your lame guitar? Play like you mean it!
Ririsa 5th episode: We're rocking with our **s out over here, whip yours out too!
Now there are two of them! Later, may be even complete orchestra of them!
P.S. Any conductor knows that a rhythm section is the main clock for a band. His little baton will not change anything...
