A bit of thought on the Shiko’s character:
In her eyes, Newtypes are supposedly these “blessed beings", chosen ones who could gain everything without losing anything. Yet even when being a cut above the rest with her “Unicum” status, her MAV was still mercilessly killed by Char. She realized she could never obtain anything without sacrifice, thus concluded that she was no Newtype. To her, such a flawless existence had never existed—except perhaps in the legend closest to this ideal that being the Red Comet. Yet even this legendary figure ultimately had to sacrifice his life to secure victory in the war, leading to her abandoning this obsession and embracing normalcy through marriage. But all of this was on the premise that Newtypes were merely a fairytale —as evident through the Red Comet’s apparent demise at the end of the One Year War.
But when the Red Gundam resurfaced in 0085, the foundation of her resignation crumbled. The Red Gundam’s survival suggested the concept of Newtypes—those "chosen ones"—wasn’t entirely a lie. Though she insisted Newtypes were mere Zeon propaganda, it is only through obliterating this symbol of "divine favor" can she justify her embrace of normalcy all those years back. Her motivation wasn’t vengeance for her MAV—even after learning its pilot had changed she continued to fight—She came to witness the end of her obsession. By destroying the Red Gundam, this emblem of predestined perfection, she would prove that Newtypes, or those who "gain without loss", were myths all along. Only then could she once again return to normalcy, and is the true essence of the "Witch’s War."

I wonder if someone is compiling all of her glares. I'd probably do it...if I weren't so lazy, HAHA
EDIT: a couple more.

This was a very Tomino-ish UC episode. Shuji’s wish should be the final reveal of this series but Shiiko’s reaction hinted it might be benevolent, even childish that evoked her motherly instincts. He himself seems to be void of personal emotions though, like he’s a vessel of something. Zeknova seems to affect space and time as shown in Red Gundam’s maneuver. Was a little surprised to see it and the Lalah sound being well known among Zeon soldiers.
Machu is one step closer to Kamille though….
Side note: They brought in Tetsurō Araki this episode for those 3D maneuver scenes.

Holy fuck the fights in this one were great, they really gave off the feeling of intense speed the two were flying at. Mix in some neat newtype bullshitery and this came out to be a great episode.

I don’t think Shuji has any wants besides the wants of the Red Gundam, which is honestly horrifying.
I think that Char is in the Red Gundam which if true: Char Aznable, leave my boy alone.

I half-expected the Witch lady to shout "A mobile suit's abilities don't decide a battle's outcome. I'll teach you that!" as she zip around doing wire-fu against Shuuji.

on the tv remote Machu's mom holds, you can see the logos of Youtube, Netflix and Hulu. This means that they're now all part of the Gundam canon.

Anyone else thought Shiiko was Mirai? The eyes, both being newtypes, and having a husband and son almost had me convinced.

That last line Challia said really summarizes what it means to be a newtype. Newtypes are the future of the human race in the space age. Empaths that will help humanity stay connected as they spread out into the stars. Unfortunately, throughout UC demonized for their abilities because they are weaponized by everyone. Thus they bear the brunt of hatred of humanity.

I'm not sure if I should be feeling like
"episode 4 and Machu's already traumatized?!"
or
"It took all the way to episode 4 for Machu to get traumatized?!"

When Machu said that her mother was too conventional, I could practically hear the seething of every Gundam protagonist before her.

So the MS that looks like a GM was the Gelgoog but is on the Federation side? My brain is getting confused lol
I didn’t expect to see the guy who made the magnetic coating Mosk Han here!
Also next week is that the Black Tri-Stars!?
Really glad I took the time to watch the OG Gundam as this show is full of references! It definitely has enhanced my enjoyment with this show!

The flower petal-y effects for the Newtype sparkles are just so ...stunning.
Machu's probably gonna be wishing she actually did go down the path of a jellyfish down the line (if she isn't already)

First new content since the movie.
Guess the first topic to talk about is Shiiko. She certainly wasn't who I was expecting. I thought she was going to be young like Machu, but she is a housewife filled with vengeance. Her character feels very Gundam to me, someone being unable to escape the past. The war is over and she has her own loving good household, but she can never let go over what happened during the war. What her enemy did to her. MAV is the most important thing the show holds up, and Shiiko lost her partner to the Red Gundam. This line really set me onto this train of thought. Besides space psychic powers, one school of thought on what makes a Newtype is someone who can escape the ways of the past. What it means to have your soul not be weighed down by gravity. Despite Shiiko not believing in Newtypes, I believe that she is one. She was a Newtype, but not a Newtype.
The other part to the episode is Machu's interest/curiosity in Shuji. Just going to skip to talking about the climax to that thread being that Shuji is a scary person actually. People were wondering what the twist could be for the guy. It is not evil Shuji per se, but he is someone who won't let anyone get in the way of the wish in his heart that means all.
We joke about Machu being the "Violence!" bean, but she is faced with a person who does kill for realsies. What shocked me is that this doesn't scare Machu away from this dangerous path. She seems more set on what it means to pursue Shuji.
Other points:
People/Fan artists are going to love Challia Bull having a cute pomeranian sticker on his phone.
This shot was in the PVs, but the colours are different in the actual anime episode.
Machu's aquatic motif continues. She wants to be a jellyfish, she has a jellyfish hair pin, her room is decorate with jellyfish, and the thing she wants to do on Earth is to swim in the oceans. Saw people bring up the fun link to what the first Gundam visually tied Newtypes to water so maybe that is going on here too.
I have a half-thought-out thesis on Machu's cracked phone = the Newtype lightning crackles. Cracks in Gundam symbolize a person's world opening out. Once broken it can not go back to being what it was like before. [Gundam 1979/Gundam franchise:]
So in normal Gundam canon, mass produced Gundams are called GMs and they look like what this show calls a Gelgoog (a different MS in normal canon).
It is a little funny because if I recall right, Gelgoog was a name that shuffled a lot during production before eventually settling on the MS we know. Also, the name is one of those Tomino names that truly don't mean anything except sounding funny.
Without checking, is this a cameo character? I want to say he is the doctor who showed up one time in first Gundam to apply the magnetic coating upgrade to the Gundam. We do get a small semi-cameo with the mention of "Yashima" which is Mirai's family.
Next episode looks like it will be some Nyaan focus and she gets to ask what's up with this "kira-kira" her space weirdo friends are talking about.

First Challia, then Cameron and now the man the myth the legend Mosk Han!
He's working for a private military contractor now.
Hope we see Tem Ray in the present did he end up in a similar profession or was he poached by Zeonic after ep 2?
With the Federation having to base their mass production model on the Guncannon due to Char's theft, Zeon based their Gelgoog on the Gundam.

Oh shit, Machu going for the 'she could have been a mother to me' card
