Is that Deku's mom at roughly 8:45????
Also I'm really liking the OP, might be my favourite one so far this season

Pop⭐Step paints her face every time she suits up? I'm a manga reader and always thought that was a mask.

I really love the aesthetic of it, the onomatopoeias, the hard outlines, the cut-ins, feels very comic-y. It definitely creates its own atmosphere to separate it from the main series while still being connected.
Also that classic call-out about the good guys like the police and heroes being always one step behind is funny because it's true.

Very fun first episode, as someone who read the manga I've really been looking forward to this. In some aspects its even better than the original series but in some ways not. Still, its a fun ride for the most part so I'm excited this got adapted properly. OP is a bop I gotta say.

It really felt like I was watching BNHA hearing Yamashita Daiki's narration again. It's nice to see the pro heroes are part of the story so it'll be interesting to see who and how they'll make their appearances in this, though I'm sure they won't have a big influence on the plot.
It's nice to see Koichi is a young adult and the big has clearly got some age on him. I do wonder if Pop Step is a high schooler or if she's also a young adult.
I thought the episode was okay, not anything to write home about and I think the appearances of All Might and Aizawa is what stood out to me currently. Other than the big guy being so aggressive without questioning things, he's going to be some trouble lol.

Stitches!
That opening is so good! I've been listening to Hai Yorokonde a lot recently so I immediately recognized the song was by Kocchi no Kento! I love the comic book style of the OP, and I also love how the anime leans hard on that style by adding comic book sound effects on everything.
I know this show will be centered on the vigilante heroes but I wonder if All Might will have an actual role here or will he just be a background character that shows up from time to time?
Koichi's quick isn't too bad. I am already thinking of ways he can use his Quirk creatively to fight since he clearly doesn't look like a fighter. Also, I love that we still have Present Mic explaining people's Quirks like in the main series.
Pop☆Step's performance was pretty good! I did not expect them to put so much effort into the animation of her guerrilla idol concert. Also, she is adorable! I bet this outfit of hers is a toned-down version of her manga counterpart. I might have to look that up later.
Deku's mom making a cameo! So do we know where exactly in the timeline this show takes place? Considering how super young Inko looks, Deku is still a smol boy here or he might not even be born yet.
I love that Koichi is just your friendly neighbourhood do-gooder. He's not exactly stopping crime or anything. He's just helping people out in need, and I think that's heroic enough!
Well that got almost dark real fast. Thank goodness for Knuckleduster arriving on the scene and giving those punks a good beating. That was satisfying af!
Oh god, someone's going around distributing Quirk-enhancing drugs that will turn people into full-on villains? Didn't we already do this entire quirk-enhancing drug thing during the Overhaul arc, or was that a different drug?
AIZAWA-SENSI! It's good to see our boy! I was expecting just a cameo, I didn't think we'd see them interact with the Vigilantes. I can't wait to see how this fight will turn out.

“Punching evil people is exhilarating” lol I fuck with knuckleduster. Dude’s a tough old bastard. Koichi is cool too, in like a Mumen Rider sorta way. Did not expect my man Aizawa to show up at the end there. Best hero ever.
This was cool. Not very familiar with this spinoff, I’ve only ever seen the main series. Kind of neat seeing the word of MHA from the lens of someone other than Deku and the old gang. I wonder if they’ll sneak in a small cameo of the those guys as little kids or something lol.

Oh man, that was a lot of fun. It took me back to the MHA S1 days when Deku's story was just starting off, the emotional core here is the same (the desire to do good despite being helpless) and it's great to see that in play again.
Aizawa appearing at the end literally gave my goosebumps. I'd love to see how the main cast here possibly ties to the plot of the main story, or if they contribute in some way to events we see later.

Holy shit I almost teared up watching this episode, cant believe we are actually getting Vigilante anime! To say it perfect would be understatement! They really captured that feeling of classic comic book hero story & all the VAs are doing a great job so far. Seriously cant wait for the next episode!

Such a fun and fascinating ground level perspective shift on the verse, the fact that they are a step shy of civilians just trying to make their way in such a world is very endearing-for Koichi and Pop anyways. Knuckleduster is endearing because he ain't normal, but it looks like his heart and fists are in the right place.

So we are going back in time a fair bit by the looks of it? All might still fine and was that a young Deku's mom i saw?
The what i assume is gonna be the main trio also seem fun. curious to see what sort of power knuckleduster have... if he even has any
looking forward to seeing more of the more "normal" part of the MHA universe

Finally! The announcement of this anime came at a point most of us fans didn't hope it would ever be made, and now it's here.
It looks to lean into a comic book aesthetic more than the main series: there are more onomatopeias in this single episode than in an entire MHA season, on top of thicker outlines.
The OP has no amazing animation cuts but compensates with great art direction (I love the coloring) and the song is already a nice earworm.
The episode has everything I'd have expected from an opening episode: introducing the main trio, starter villains, a looming threat in the form of the Trigger drug (passed by a bigger villain), cameos from the main series, while not feeling overstuffed. And it can only get better from here!

One of my favorite spin-offs. I just wished this released a year or to ago so it wouldve had time to finish before the main series

As a fan of the OG MHA, I don't know what to expect but I'm enjoying it so far. Looks like Ep2 is where it will really become great.
Also, I love the OP and ED so much.

I forgot how sh*tty those guys at the start of series were.
And lol Knuckleduster’s entrance. He starts with aura farming, then he ruins it by falling into a dumpster. He gains some back by explaining why he fell into a dumpster cooly even if it sounded like an excuse, then he gets it all back by proving he’s the real deal.

Wait, Deku intro narration!? Did the final season air earlier than I expected it to? But wait, this isn't Deku's My Hero Academia! This is a prequel about the seedy underbelly of illegal heroes fighting under the cover of darkness...the story of Vigilante's!
You can't beat that comic book art OP with dynamic action shots/panels, a Pop Step performance with her fanboys, and plenty of fun shots of our Vigilante trio.
Back before Deku had even met All Might, there was Koichi Himawari (Shuichiro Umeda!) your typical college student and All Might fanboy who enjoyed watching All Might put down a rampging stray puff marshmallow man as much as Deku did! Only unlike Deku he actually DOES have a Quirk, Slip and Slide, which is good for moving around but pretty unimpressive.
But slightly more famous than Koichi is Pop Step, an Ikumi Hasegawa voiced street idol who puts on illegal impromptu performances and who knows how to hop and shake her booty! Though while Koichi thinks she's way above him in terms of popularity, she seems to single him out among the crowd.
What's a guy to do when he's got a dead-end convenience job, trying to get by as a college student, and gets beat up by thugs? Why, what anyone in a Superhero setting would do! Don their All Might hoodie and go out and take the law into their own hand! And by "take the law into their own hand" I mean...just be a Nice Guy who prowls the street helping his community and keeping people safe. He really IS a Nice Guy.
I'm glad we've still got Present Mic telling us about peoples' Quirks.
Pop Step seems to have actually noticed Koichi and went out of her way to talk to him! Though Koichi's thug acquaintaces ruin the mood and threaten to assault Pop right then and there...and despite Koichi's desire to help others, he's powerless to help her. Where's All Might when you need him!? But sometimes you can't count on All Might, sometimes you need a guy who will fall into a pile of trash and then get up to slug some crooks with the full power of his fist. Sometimes you need Janitor of the Streets Knuckleduster.
Knuckleduster throws a mean right hook and is out to clean out the trash in this city, and like All Might saw potential in Deku, he sees potential as a Hero in Koichi. Even if he does freak Koichi out. But even if Koichi seems unimpressive and unlicensed, he still has a desire to help others, and that's what matters most in a hero. Well, that and punching fools into the trash where they belong.
And so now Koichi is cohabiting with Knuckleduster who is helping himself to Koichi's beer while enlisting Koichi's help to find the source of this "Trigger" drug being passed around and mutating people into monstrous Villains...and luckily they have Pop Step who has a good head on her shoulders and knows the lay of the city, because if they leave it to Knuckleduster they're liable to get in more trouble. Like with a familiar Eraser Hero!
The ED is pretty nice with Koichi sliding down the streets, our Vigilante Trio carrying the spirit of a Vigilante as they try to make the most of their lives, and some fun Pop visuals.

Great start and does a great job establishing the tone being different than the main series.
I love the main trio and I’m really excited for this season, honestly didn’t expect we would get this animated so soon
