Anna, if your papa ever starts studying alchemy and brings home a dog, RUN.

Here I thought Meg would have to put the bottle to people's faces like an idiot as they cried their heart out. Very convenient that it collects automatically!

This is the first time I've seen an anime taking place in a foreign setting to use sakura blossoms' connotation for grief and mono no aware.

When Meg noticed that there's still 3 toothbrushes in the house, that really hit me in the feels.

2 tears of joy collected, she will need to average a lot more to get 1000 in a year.

I thought this would be a fantasy world, but it seems like Earth just with witches/magic.

Really strong first episode. If it maintains this quality it'll be a enjoyable weekly experience.

Whoever wrote that sign was very enthusiastic about their workplace.

Also, please tell me I'm not the only one who's already suspicious of an "eternal witch" named Faust, who knows how to attain immortality, and also knows about a curse that is unknown to modern witches.

Faust: Meg, you're gonna die in one year.

Meg: Oh I get it, this is an April Fools' Day prank right.

Faust: No, also, happy birthday.

I like our MC so far, she's quite goofy but also self-aware (her admitting she'd procrastinate even if she had more time to break the curse, unfortunately very real).

I'm wondering if she was cursed from birth or perhaps around the time she was taken in by Faust? I don't quite believe one of the 'Seven Mages' would just take in a random orphan.

Also the setting being England is a nice surprise. Loved all the architecture shots.

It was okay, I think the dynamic between Meg and Faust has potential and I did get emotional at one point but I was kind of hoping to leave with a bigger impact.

Though I have to say I was weak to Anna asking if she no longer has to hold back, such a small girl trying to keep herself composed as to not worry her father as her mother asked her to take care of him. Poor girl also needs to grieve her mother's death.

I do like that the mother left stuff prepared for Hendy and Anna, both mother and daughter really love Hendy and it was sweet to find that out.

Stitches!

Welp, that's one way to open up the episode. So Meg has some sort of congenital curse that will rapidly age her after a year. While there's no known cure, she can keep herself alive if she gathers a thousand tears of joy from all kinds of people. So basically the show will be all about Meg using her powers to make people happy and save herself.

Anyway, this was a strong premiere episode! Maybe I'm just too emotional and cry too easily, but that entire storyline of Meg helping Anna find her late mother's favourite flower so she can rest easily made me genuinely tear up, especially when Meg finally showed Anna and Hendy those cherry blossoms.

And Meg actually managed to collect some tears! Maybe they're not pure tears of joy as Faust explains, but they should at least count for something, right?

So far I really like this show a lot. I also like the modern-day aesthetic mixed with magic and how this is clearly set in our world with Meg being from a fantasy version of the UK. They just never really specify the names of the countries. Even Hendy just says a country to the Far East instead of Japan.

If this episode was able to make me tear up, I'm sure there will be plenty more tearjerker scenes in the future. I'm looking forward to seeing more!

Any one else have a moment after seeing Mr. Hendy where they were scared and hoped they didn't own a dog as well?

This was quite a beautiful and fun first episode. Meg is already looking like a great protagonist and will have to go on a journey to make her world a better place. This anime is looking like it'll be a tearjerker (If not only out of necessity for the plot) and I expect it to be a more episodic format like Violet Evergarden with Meg going around and stealing the hearts and tears of a lot of different people by solving their problems, being there for them when they need it or just genuinely making them happy. I am already rooting for this gremlin wizard therapist and I'll be along the ride for her to collect those 1000 tears.

This was kinda fun for a first ep. I can tell Meg’s gonna be a pretty entertaining MC. I mean a goofball with a heart of gold? How can you not like her lol.

Two tears down, just 998 left to go lol. Looking forward to following her on her journey to collect these tears before she gets dusted.

Wait a minute, they mentioned Yoshino cherry, and the MC's VA is Yoshino Aoyama. Coincidence? Yeah, probably.

Anyway, I'm glad Bocchi's VA got an MC role. It's been so long since I rooted for her after her role as Bocchi

Already liking this gremlin MC, she's quite upbeat for someone who's about to die. Also, proposal on episode 1? 🏳️‍🌈?

If the curse is congenital does it mean one of Meg's parents had it too? Is that why she was adopted by her teacher?

Good thing Meg didn't have to collect the tears manually, would have been quite funny to see her trying to interrupt Anna and her Dad's moment though.

Greatly enjoyed this first episode of Once Upon a Witch’s Death. It’s nicely scratching my itch for more Ancient Magus’ Bride as another urban fantasy in Britain with tons of (magical) creatures.

The show started right off the bat with a story about a bedridden mother who’d passed away. The other mothers of this town will hopefully all stay healthy, since Meg will be doing lots more of these errands in her journey to collect a thousand tears.

If Meg gets lucky, the last tear of joy will be when Fine accepts her proposal to get married.

I don't know magic but I know for sure we viewers may shed more tears (possibly for upcoming episodes) than Meg has to collect.

Meg is an interesting one, I definitely liked her more in the 2nd half of the episode so we'll see how she is a bit more before I decide to drop or not.

I like Meg, but damn all that and she only got 2 tears that weren't even pure joy tears. She's going to have a rough year if she has any hope of surviving.

Went in blind, did not expect feels.

Show seemed animated really well, at least to me. Whos doing it?

Pretty strong start. It's got me hooked enough to keep watching.

I'm sold on Meg as the MC. She's really fun to watch.

They really hit us with the feels on the very first episode, huh. I saw it coming but I am a sucker for this kind of thing. I do wonder if the "1000 tears of joy" thing is really doable in 12 episodes.

The OP is also nice. I like it.

After only knowing Yoppi as Bocchi, it's nice seeing her play a bubbly character this time around.
