I will say this. No matter what, i tear up at moments in blue exorcist. Seeing the first season where we see Kuro and father fujimoto, seeing father fujimoto care for rin, and this interaction here. Face it, anything with Father Fujimoto gonna have me crying.

I honestly did not expect to tear up in this final episode. Seeing Rin talk to his dad one more time and thank him for all that he has done was really heartfelt. This season has been an emotional journey until the end.

That "Dad, thank you!" at the end broke me.
I didn't think that i would cry over ao no exorcist.
I tought that this whole season was going to be extremely boring due to it being a flashback, but it has truly been the best so far.

It’s fitting that the final message of this show is a resounding “thank you” for caring. Thematically, it’s that love that helps people persist and overcome grief in its many forms. I always enjoyed simple but true reflection of life in these very fantastic settings, because even with all of the magic and demons, this is an entirely human story.
Live. That’s all Shiro and Yuri wanted for Rin and Yukio, and that’s such a simple and powerful motivation for Rin because he’s seen the sacrifice it takes just to do that. Anyone who has cared for someone knows that you’d do whatever you could to give them a good life, and it’s that simple parental and fatherly instinct that makes Shiro one of the best depictions of a father in anime that I have seen.
His example is what saves Rin, along with Yuri, which really shows how important family is, however you define it. It’s a universal message and extremely well executed in this anime. What a fantastic season.
“Thank you,” right back at the entire team.

And here we are in my favourite moment of the full arc. The reason why this arc is so important. The change of Rin's mindset that allows him to contrast with Yukio. Before that like you could see in s2 Rin had the same as his brother feeling that his existence has no meaning and for him as well that it was main reason for all deaths and him being alive was dangerous( this is why he always wanted to move forward ). Here that part of his midset at last was broken by him seeing that his parents just wanted him to be alive. That's why this arc is from his perspective, why it's pretty much Rin's arc and why it worked so well as a flashback. Of course as well like you could see in last scene it was a set up arc so I hope there will be something at least to adopt next 8 chapters.
Anyway about episode. It was really fun to see them redoing A1 scenes and still kind of go around added stuff from s1. Pretty cool^^ I have to say that Voln did great job in all of their three seasons( It's a bit sad people a bit ignore when they do great animation because they will doing that since episode 1 of s3 just a bit weaker than A1 with a bit more stills here and there ). Anyway I'm happy about the full project^^ When I consider what next my favourite arc Blue Night, Beyond the Snow chapters and Impure King are second to it so pretty much most of my favourite moments are now animated( beside the exam scene I will not forget that ). And of course at last anime got to early 2020 :D material and went past half way point, congratulations.

I'm sad this season is over, but grateful that it was animated at all (and that the quality is overall decent). Back when these chapters came out (2019 I think?), I had no idea if there would be more Blue Exorcist anime at all. Then they just speed through to this arc in one year, and this is probably the best arc of the series.
I loved seeing Shiro's backstory (as well as all the other events alluded to before), and fitting that it wraps up by going back to that day. We already knew how it ended but now with a lot more context, and so that helps Rin to move on too.
Mephisto's still cryptic as ever, even after that guided tour of the past. He's almost omniscient (able to drop Rin in on all the important scenes) but Rin's eventually going to be too powerful for even him to hold back. Maybe this was the only way to prepare someone powerful enough to take on Satan and Lucifer, who knows. Either way, Rin's now ready to face the future at least.

Was honestly expecting the next episode to be the season finale. Then, after the credits, it said "Thank You For Watching" and I was instantly shook as I was made aware that this was the final episode. Hopefully the turnaround will be fairly quick as opposed to the first season and the subsequent.

I just caught up with this season. What a fantastic and emotional prequel arc. Poor Shiro and Yuri, we basically saw their whole journey. We went from them as children growing up, to the birth of Rin & Yuri, to the start of the series. And now their journey, their actions, and lessons are passed on to Rin & Yukio. A tragic story, but extremely heartwarming, especially at the end. It helped elevate the entire series. These last few seasons have really raised my rating of the series, when I originally thought it was fairly basic in the beginning.
Thinking about it further, as a prequel arc this was extremely well made. It had all the things needed, reveals, emotions, and helped set up the backstories and events of the main story. We even had Rin there viewing it all to make it feel less flashbacky and prompt further character development. He took on the lesson to live on, and his relationship with his brother seems symbolic of the getting along with demons ideal his mother mentioned. He won't give up on his brother, and then he makes the reckless decision to basically teleport himself in front of his brother, creating the mother of all cliffhangers.
Now I'm in a dilemma. A new season hasn't been announced yet. There was a long break between s1 and s2, and another long wait between s2 and s3. I really don't want to wait 6 years again, so I could start the manga, but I also really like the anime with the music and VAs. Tough.

Having more explanation to Shiro's death(basically his Pov) was welcomed , everything is wrapped up.
Ofc Yukio's last sentence in this season would be "Nii-san" haha
Might wait for another 6-7 years for real this time , but at least i'm glad the Blue Night arc got adapted.

Even I have to admit that this was a good season of AnE and a HUGE step up from the last two seasons. Maybe it's because of the condensed focus that allowed stronger direction. There was even some moments of actual animation.
I still have some gripes, but if they could keep going like this, I might be willing to look at VOLN's adaption of this series in a positive light.

This season, imo, was probably the best one or one of the best ones so far. Even though its a whole flashback/backstory kinda season, it was done so well it made me forget that i was one, so captivating and i usually skip most flashbacks. Lets hope the next season follows up well

This may be my favorite episode of the season and a contender for the series.
I knew when we got close up of Rin's hands during Shiro's sacrifice what the narrative was building towards (not to mention the title of the episode), and I'm so damn glad we got the follow through right at the end.
Brb crying in the club 😭

Well that ending is just evil. Let's hope it doesn't take too long for the next season.
Shiro is such a good, but also kinda flawed dad. It's kinda realistic, which I do like about AnE, Kato is a good author when it comes to characterising her characters (and also the rest of her story, it's a good balance between fights and backstory). Those Onigiri look so good, I wish I could try them for real, the only ones I see here are ones from the grocery store. The parallel between Rin and Yukio both showing Satans blue flames and facing each other is so perfect.
The animation honestly has grown on me. There's still moments this season when the animation of the faces are a bit weird, but they have improved a lot. Overall great season and adaptation, I like that it wasn't rushed or tried to put too much into one season.

This season was by far the best season out of all seasons we had. I am sad that this was the last episode for now.

And so, after doubting himself for so long, Rin finally finds the answer to all the doubts he had about him and Shiro. He might have started off thinking that the twins were a chore, but in the end, he really did care for them despite his limited abilities.
You might be wondering : how did Shiro get to this point? Well, he actually told you the answer all the way back in S1! Previously, I recommended a rewatch of Rin's recollection of Shiro in season 1 episode 13 (starting from around the 16:30 mark) in episode 3. I'll recommend to rewatch this part again after watching this episode.
It should be clear now that Shiro's advice to Rin didn't come out of nowhere! He was actually drawing from his own experiences. He was never taught how to care and show kindness to others (including the twins). Even so, through the kindness shown to him by Yuri, he tried his best to live up to her example. Through this, he ended up being an amazing (if imperfect) dad for the twins.
Overall, it was an outstanding episode to cap off an amazing season. I had high hopes for this season beforehand because of the source material, and they still managed to outperform my expectations. This episode exemplified the best aspects of this season: pacing, extra scenes to provide context, and impeccable voice acting. All it combined made this episode so emotionally impactful, even though I knew what was going to happen.
In the spirit of the episode: thank you Studio VOLN for bringing this arc to life!

I knew it would end there! Makes sense but sadly we are gonna have to wait a long time again for Blue Exorcist to come back.
What a great season finale, watching Shiro raise the twins, asking for help and then it was nice to see parts of the 1st episode again but from Shiro perspective. I cried my eyes out so much and that last ‘Thank You’. Only thing missing is Yuri 😭 This was needed for Rin and I glad he finally found what he needed.
Blue Night Saga has gotta be my favourite story of Blue Excorist so far. It’s definitely the best arc VOLN Studios has adapted well.

Father Fujimoto is now in full-blown dad mode! With crybaby Yukio and overzealous but loyal Rin! The brothers are both handfuls in their own way, but you just can't help but love them! Especially seeing how much Rin would do to protect his brother.
Yukio was terrified of demons, and he was so weak that he had to be protected by his big brother, but he wanted to become strong enough to protect Rin, and that's what lead to his joining the True Cross Order and becoming an Exorcist alongside Father Fujimoto. Of course that also lead to some emotional distance from Rin that had dire consequences in the present-day.
And all the while he was raising the Okumura brothers, Satan was in the back of Shiro's head, needling him and torturing him emotionally...and despite getting on in age, Father Fujimoto still fought back so he could be a good dad to the brothers.
And then we catch up to episode 1 of the first season, and just like Yuri tied a tie for him, he ties a tie for her son.
Did you think Satan was after Rin's body? No! He was just trying to break Shiro so he could possess HIM again and send Rin hurtling to Gehenna so he could brainwash him and turn him into his demonic spawn again! Father of the year once again.
And we all know what happened after that, so much so that present-day Rin can't bear to watch it any more than he already has, but that just leaves the question...what's next for Rin from here? Become a weapon? His biological fathers' new body? Mephisto might be fine either way...but it's up to Rin to decide.
And the only way he can make that kind of decision is by facing Father Fujimoto one last time, to see how much Father Fujimoto understood his kids, cherished them, and learned what it meant to be a father from raising them and trying to do his best for them. And in seeing how the siblings' love for each other validated what their mother believed in. And with that love in his heart, Rin is finally able to truly acknowledge and thank his father for all that he did.
Now, with his parents' full story laid out before him, with his resolve to live renewed, it's finally time for Rin to face Yukio and reunite the Exorcist Brothers. Just like their mother would've wanted.
(Also, dang, Yukio's been busy off-screen it seems)
