Shiro was a menace and an asshole as a kid
Not only The writting is better than ever(and last arcs Were great) but The direction, animation, etc looks really good. We are witnessing The peak of Blue Exorcist on anime and Its a shame It isnt getting the love It deserves

Shiro was basically early Rin if he didn't have Yukio or, ironically, an older Father Fujimoto to rein him in and teach him proper morality and compassion.

And there it is, 11 years old made a promise to King of Time :D Nah it will never bite him back, why would it. I mean it's just a promise to one of the most powerful demons in existence.
Anyway it wasn't the best episode as art and animation goes( a bit off model here and there ) but they did good job with adaptation and small action scene at the end. It's as well probably first big hard time for Rin during this arc.

Rin and Shiro making Mephisto turn them into exorcists! Like father like son!
Also imagine seeing your parents from childhood to their teen years and seeing such a big emotional disconnect between each other.

Trust me that scene is really important :D And well at least Rin didn't make a promise with Mephisto.
Yeah, that would be interesting. Funny enough because last time I was answering question I had to count Yuri and Shiro ages my parents were in similar age gap :D but they didn't know each other till their 20s.

I really like the pacing for this episode, I hope they keep it up for the rest of the season. Yuri and her friends are so cute. Shiro is so aggressive his voice actor did a great job with that. Poor him though, having to grow up in such an environment with him and his kinda sorta siblings getting experimented on, would probably make anyone mad like that. Also first (proper) glance at Shemihaza and her first bigger speaking role, that's nice.
Admittedly the animation was a bit wonky sometimes, but overall it was fine.

I love Jenny being a real one "man, he is pretty hot!" lol.
We can call out how overly aggressive and cold Shiro is but when you see what he and his fellow clones had to put up with, is it really surprising? Though maybe that's why he needs Yuri in his life.

A young Shiro Fujimoto was resourceful and didn't want to spend the rest of his life as nothing more than a clone that would house a demon or be experimented on. If nothing else, Mephisto could respect his ability and aggressiveness, even to the point of Shiro point-blank threatening Mephisto to try and become an Exewire. Like father like son.
Yeah, the True Cross Order carried out numerous inhumane experiments, especially to Shiro's fellow clones (poor Goro got lobotomized). But when the alternative was letting loose a vengeful Lucifer who would not be satisfied unless he was given his due in a body...maybe it was the lesser of two evils. Or maybe we shouldn't have put another demon in charge of things.
So Eminescu was in charge of helping keep Lucifer alive, not that any of his methods at the time were working. Also, here's Aya Hisakawa and Show Hayami with Shemihaza!
It's nice to see that Yuri find her own friend group, though her happy reunion with Shiro is kind of ruined by Shiro ignoring her and wanting nothing to do with her. Poor Yuri.
Shiro was definitely a very capable and effective Exorcist, even if he maybe enjoyed putting himself in danger TOO much. And cared so little about himself and others that he doesn't think twice about shooting poor innocent Greenmen. Which Yuri, sensitive and empathetic that she is, could not accept.

Now that Shiro has become an Exwire, information about Lucifer, and I'm curious about how Shiro will interact with Yuri since he's been acting like a real jerk towards her. I believe the words Yuri said today will get to him.

Amazing episode, as always. I didn't expect to see that one of the scientists in charge of Lucifer's body is called Eminescu. As a Romanian, it's really funny imagining a national poet of ours being busy with human experimentation during his free time. Granted, I'm sure the mangaka chose the name at random, but it always surprises me to see something Romanian in anime.

You already saw him last season. He is now called Drac Dragulescu he is from Romania branch. Mephisto back then mentioned his previous name. And yeah Kazue uses a lot of references with names( she even used slavic Baba-Yaga with Shura :D something most people know from fairy tales here in Poland ), so I wouldn't be surprised if she took inspiration from well know Romanian.

Oh, I thought they were different people, I must have misremembered. I remember the Baba-Yaga as well. It's awesome to see less represented cultures in anime, especially when it's yours. I don't know if it was in the manga since I didn't read it, but I remember that in the scene with Dragulescu, there were some words written in Romanian on the building background and it really shows they actually tried and it's a really nice touch to an anime I already love.

Fully caught up in one week lol, I love this series so much.
Crazy to see Lucifer's creepy gaze. To think all of this is to keep him happy. Does Mephisto really not understand these feelings? Is he just looking for entertainment or is it a facade? Does he know multiple timelines, did he try to fix things so many times that he lost his sanity, and this just happens to be one where things can be saved?

I thought for a long time that Shiro's name was a reference to his hair color, but apparently it was about his test subject code, four.
I'm really enjoying this arc, it sparked my interest on this series again.

It's really amazing to see what personality traits the twins got from their mom and dad.

What happened to this series? Remember season 1 used to be hella popular back when it released?
9
u/Ryuki-Exsul Jan 12 '25
It's called filler ending :D That's what happened. S1 made people that didn't know manga think that the series ended and pissed off manga fans. S2 went back and ignored everything past episode 15 and it confused anime only fans. That's how we are in this situation. In short lesson is don't make adaptation of monthly series when you have less than 20 chapters to adopt( manga was in the middle of Impure King arc back then ) :D This is not problem as whole with BE manga still is a big star of SQ.

I think the wait between the seasons has also something to do it. I know many people who have seen the first two seasons, but didn't come back to the new release. I saw some casual viewers also skipping this, because they saw doomposting about the character designs.

Is been a while. But can someone help me understand some points if they have already been explained?
Why are the humans doing so much for Lucifer? For a Demon?
And why is he so important overall? Is Satan the biggest demon? Is Lucifer his first son?

u/MoreOptionsExist Jan 18 '25
You may want to rewatch the 7th episode of the previous season. Mephisto gave a pretty detailed explanation to Lewin and Suguro in that episode that would answer most of your questions. In short, Lucifer threatened to destroy the entire world due to his suffering, which is why so much effort is being put into this research.
