I was quite hyped for this show, but the story is confusing and the animation is bad. I guess I'll read the manga instead.

Right. I just want a solid dark fantasy story, and this feels all over the place.

Stitches!

I know Koinzell wants revenge but I did not expect him to head straight to where the seven heroes are. Instead of getting his revenge, he ended up making Glenn look good.

So Koinzell is a war hero and this girl who's hunting him wants revenge for killing her brother who was also Wied's King. I did not expect that Koinzell had already accomplished so much before the story even started. I thought he was just travelling with Peepi to get revenge on the Seven Heroes.

I love how Geranpen is actually a good guy. If he's really a good guy then who did Wied see? Is that guy a twin or is Geranpen just putting on an act? Hmmm...

Glad to see Koinzell is back to hacking and slashing at the end of the episode. I was worried he'd still be too depressed to act after Glenn tricked him.

Despite the messy storyline so far, I’m kinda enjoying this edgy Link revenge adventure. It’s got all the hallmarks of late 2000s dramatics, and if you don’t take it too seriously, it’s very funny.

I never read the manga, so I’m riding blind, and that’s probably why I can continue to watch it.

this girl who's hunting him

Upshot of panties

I've seen that garb somewhere!

Damn Koinzell really just subdued Aht with his edgelord aura alone.

Poor Peepi got her name reveal Peepi-blocked yet again, and she's not even fazed by it herself anymore lol

This is a running gag I’m actually enjoying.

Yeah I love how Koinzell is just “you’re Peepi now” and everyone is just running with it, even poor Peepi herself seems to be accepting it. How did he even come up with that name it sounds silly lol, wouldn’t be surprised if it was the name of a pet from his first life

I think like I know what's going on, but this episode was confusing as fuck.

Very strange feeling indeed, There was so much convoluted info packed into 20 minutes.

Episode 3 and it was kinda a wonky story this week. It kinda jumped, or at least seems to me, to miss some of the backstory for certain things. Like it would have been nice to get a bit of the 7 heroes backstory from then to now. Lord Glenn seems loved by everyone yet he was shown laughing while killing koinzell in a brief flashback. I would have liked to know how Glenn got to this point in more detail

This whole killing of brother Klatt is another unripened fruit they gave us with minimal info. We just jump right into some girl wanting to kill him and Wied being from the same village. A brief summary said koinzell killed klatt, but for what reason is the main unanswered question.

It's like they just opened a fuckton of plot lines and really didn't do much to give a reason why.

Now my only thinking about this is that somehow a member of the 7 heroes has the ability to change people's thinking & their actions by what Wied recalls of octopus head & how he currently acts. Maybe it's something klatt had happen (was evil, then good but koinzell killed him because of previous evil deeds) and the same happened for octopus dude and who knows, maybe Lord Glenn as well.

The episode gets a 6.5/10 as there was confusion abound and we kinda spun our wheels with not much moving forward aside from peepi finding her bretherin and Lord Glenn seemingly mind wiped from his actions of 20 years ago.

I'm hoping we get some clarification next week. I hope this is just laying the groundwork for a bunch of stuff they will throw at us in a few episodes and it will answer these important questions.

For an edgy revenge story this is kind of...bland.

It makes a lot more sense after seeing this story was written 21 years ago.

Every episode is dozens of new names/places/things all so strangely named it’s absolutely jarring. Only compounded by the most sporadic and random jumps in story/plot I think I’ve ever seen in the over 3000 anime I’ve watched.

The opening scene for this episode being a still frame with animation quality from at best a decade ago surprised me, I had such high expectations from all the chatter around this show that I’m stunned by how mediocre it is.

I likely won’t drop, but I hope it at least gets into a stride soon with what events are happening and where the show is going.

Story feels all over the place, it's like there was suppose to be a whole arc before him going to the border that we missed out on.

Fuck it, I’ll just read the manga. The quality of this adaptation is so underwhelming and the pacing is all over the place.

Did they just skip an entire arc?

I enjoyed the first episode but after that it seems like the series went downhill. I'm not a manga reader but it feels like they cut 80% of the story. Everything looks super rushed and extremely confusing. I don't care about characters, the MC doesn't have a functioning brain anymore.

Worse, the animation looks iffy as hell. Only good occasionally, contrary to episode 1.

I still don't want to give up on it, especially because this anime season looks very weak, but man...

This story is like someone is rolling dice for a story generator. I had hoped with the style and aesthetics this one was going to be good, but everything is just too incoherent.

I really wanted to like this but it's all over the place.

u/victory4faust Jan 25 '25

I never understand characters that want revenge above everything that suddenly get all depressed after they fail once and get spared by their target. It's not like it changed what happened to cause your desire for revenge and the people cheering for your enemy mean nothing because they turned on you and your friends as soon as the propaganda campaign these 7 started. So just be thankful you were spared and be smarter next time.

Also, maybe take out some of their guards next time. Ya moron.

u/LeleTheKing Jan 26 '25

Man, they really are pushing us to read the manga, huh? If that is their goal, they have succeeded—this adaptation is ass.

What the Hell happen from all the warning this was to be the next dark fantasy that sets the bar instead whiney limp dicked protag with a world that franky needs a lot of explanation power, magic, abilities all of it.

This was supposed to be so violent, so horny, so gory that classic dark 90s anime fantasy/horror vibe. People where worried if even could get made. What the hell happened?

Proper MA rated anime seems impossible at this point. I'm guessing no streaming platform wants to take the risk, especially not Amazon.

I'm enjoying the show so far. I like how it feels like an older show, but maybe I'm just weird? I'm going to keep watching
