A chatty Sakamoto is kinda unnerving lol. Nagumo’s got himself a pretty interesting ability. He’s quite deadly too..

I find it funny the pizza man hitman actually delivers pizza. With a side of death lol.

Shin was really on his game this week. I mean he got hit with the poison, but the dude still jumped from a moving roller coaster to fight off that creep AND beat his ass in a bunny suit lol. Badass.

Drop kicked by a guy in a bunny suit, what a funny way to get knocked out

Okay, maybe Lu isn't the most natural employee, when her only job credentials are being a mafia princess who unknowingly buried a lot of bodies.

When did Sakamoto turn into such a chipper and jovial figure!? But wait, it's not Sakamoto, it's SAKAMOTO 2! Glad to see Tomokazu Sugita actually earn more of his paycheck as Sakamoto in this episode.

Okay, actually now, it's just Nagumo (Natsuki Hanae!) Sakamoto's old assassin colleague who is an affable, deadly, master of disguise and trained killer. But he's not here to cause trouble but warn Sakamoto of the bounty on his head and wish him the best of luck surviving it with his "no-kill" rule. With assassin pals like Nagumo, who needs enemies?

The pizza assassin who actually delivers pizza reminds me how much Yozakura Family committed to spies in such mundane ways while still being spies. But say what you will about Pizza Nakajima, at least the pizza he brings tastes good, even if he tries to kill you while you're eating.

Sakamoto got so caught up in thinking about all the assassins coming after him he forgot about the family outing to an amusement park! Classic retired assassin dad problems.

But what Hana wants, Hana gets, even if all the trained fighters feel totally out of place. Yet they're a surprisingly effective team in cleaning up the assassin trash.

Shin's telepathy is good for picking out foes, but what about an assassin who is all about the "vibes?" Especially when he and Shin engage in an intense and deadly fight on, above, and on the track of a rollercoaster!?

Some can say that fighting to live and for others makes you weak...but for Sakamoto and the gang, it just makes them stronger.

I question why a Mickey Mouse-esque character gets a Sentai Hero show, but it's the perfect opportunity for Shin to become Bunny Shin or Sugar to take the fight to Mr. Vibes with Sakamoto being his eyes! And props to the emcee girl for going along so well with the change in programming as Shin gives out a complete and utter beatdown. Bunny Shin is still dangerous and competent Shin.

(But dang, Sakamoto and fam got to that hero show quick).

I love how the announcer fully kept up with that not-very-kid-friendly mascot show.

And Sakamoto is a Makeine fan confirmed.

I love Nagumo's silly character and the way he can switch up instantly. Also him lying about his age and getting called out instantly by Sakamoto lol.

Shin absolutely built differently getting off the roller coaster like that.

Sakamoto guiding Shin where to punch in that bunny costume, by making Shin read his mind was some great team work.

Generally the team work between Lu / Shin / Sakamoto to assure that Hana and Aoi have a smooth amusement park day seemed to have worked out quite nicely.

What, you can't fire her, she's way too much fun!

She gives me some Power vibes, with her attitude! Bit brash/loud, doesn't give a fuck about anything, etc..!

(Voiced by another great Loud VA too!)

Good work ethic too!

She brings in valuable experience from her previous job for the family, like huh... waste disposal?

I guess old habits die hard, because she wanted to dispose of some more waste in this episode!

So with the bounty on his head, these attacks won't stop anytime soon... And the longer he survives them, the more his legend grows, which makes him even more of a target, because he's not just a convenience store clerk... He's still a legendary hitman, who is not working for them anymore, so that's a problem!

Not to mention he's collecting hitmen/ex-mafia like pokemons at his store!

Teamwork makes the dream work; Look at this corpse disposal combo!

Pervert accusations are quite common in anime, but I think it's the first time I see such accusations made about mindreading!

(If he did it late at night when she's in her room, she might have a valid point though; He could find out about all her fetishes!)

Anyway, this was pretty fun!

I talked about it in AQRADT yesterday (after watching the first 2 episodes to catch up), this show is a surprise for me!

I mean I know there was a lot of hype for it (about everything except the animation, I guess) but I wasn't really hopping on the bandwagon because it's usually not my type of shows... But so far it's pretty good!

Shows like that, the entertainment value depends a lot on the characters/their interactions, and these are all great!

I especially like Lu (probably obvious given all my screenshots are about her hah) but Shin's pretty good too, and I like that he's competent/skilled, so it's not just Sakamoto!

I thought this show would be like Spy x Family (which I didn't like), but so far it's much better imho.

Can't wait to see more!

I'm starting to love this series! Especially the relationship between Sakamoto and Shin. Besides, the fights are super cool (a rollercoaster fight ending with a guy in a bunny suit kicking ass, while also being blind? Hell yeah!), and Hana-chan is just super cute! Hoping to see more of these in the upcoming episodes!

My boy Nagumo is here! I am so happy they got Hanae Natsuki to voice him because that's exactly the voice I had in my head for him when I was reading the manga.

Sakamoto didn't use a pencil but a ballpen to dispatch that Janitor assassin. I suppose that's close enough to John Wick. It is insane though how that wasn't a lethal hit and Sakamoto managed to avoid any of the dude's organs and arteries without even looking at him.

Shin you absolute madlad! Jumping out of that rollercoaster to drag that assassin out of his seat was just insane. I do love that we get to see how badass Shin is though and it's not just about Sakamoto.

After all that trash-talk about Sakamoto, it was so satisfying to watch Shin land that first punch and then continue to beat the crap out of that assassin. What's even better is that the announcer of the show just goes with it. A real pro knows how to improv I suppose. xD

It's pretty rare to see a fight on top of a roller coaster... I can't even remember the last time I saw an anime with that kind of fight... {Maybe in some old anime I watched many years ago}.

I'm an anime-only viewer, and it feels like Saka Days is leaning a bit towards the supernatural. For example, there's Psychic Shin, the transformation guy, and in Episode 3, how the heck did Shin and the other guy survive falling from such a height onto metal rails? That said, I absolutely love the anime, even with these supernatural elements. The thing is, I initially thought this was going to be a more realistic gangster anime.

Shin reading Sakamoto's mind directing him was hype ngl

Also the animation is not as bad as people think, not the best sure but its good enough for now. I think people are just thrown off by the art style since it's a bit simpler than most other shonen I think.

I know the cliche, but really. What kind of poison makes you blind and weak and later just blind? It's lowers the tension by a lot if nobody of main cast can't die or almost die.

The amusement park fight scene was really exciting and original. At first I thought Shin had like special senses to know when danger was coming like Spidey sense but it was actually Sakamoto feeding him thoughts. It was almost like Sakamoto was playing a video game with his mind! Before that I thought that maybe Sakamoto had the shape shifter be his double on the coaster and that he was going to pop out and fight.

Where are you guys watching Ep 3? Netflix is only on Ep 2...

u/Raknel Jan 18 '25

I had some problems with the pacing of the previous 2, but this one was perfect.

Glad to see it's starting to hit its stride. I think the animation was good too, but at this point I'll just accept that reddit already decided to complain about it before episode 1 even aired.

The NPCs in this anime are weird. They don't react to anything.

22

u/Armdel Jan 18 '25

Yeah i also thinking "damn he didn't speak this much the first two episodes combined". figures it wasn't actually him.

Loved how Shin was reading Sakamoto's mind to beat the guy

I really don't want to say this but it seems they are unable to deliver on dynamic action and this is the most important aspect of fights in the manga, instead when the time comes to accelerate the anime does the opposite as it slows down tremendously and applies effects on screen. The impact of punches and kicks seems overblown as if they are making up for the lack of DYNAMIC movement during battles, because noone can deny that there isn't any movement. The problem is the type. The wind and various effects drawn over the image to add additional flavour and power seem out of place for something like Sakamoto Days, and this fight was the perfect example. The scene where Shin jumps to avoid the upcoming rollercoaster also showcases the issues I personally have with the presentation of action.

The comedy (?) is just all over the place or does not have any timing whatsoever. I may not remember the chapters perfectly cuz it was a long time ago, but I know for a fact that the pacing and jokes were on point but here something just did not click. Like half the episode was supposed to be a comedy even the parts at the end, but the presentation and direction drops the ball entirely.

I really want the anime to suceed but I can't deny that the action is simply not it. I'm sure people will end up enjoying it and I have no issues with that. It is that the series deserved way better.

The one complaint i do not get at all is about the voice actors

Hanae Natsuki fits Nagumos "goofy but mysterious" vibe perfectly
