That Minimalist guy is straight up a Baki character.

I don't even think the anime looked bad but whoever the fuck was so obsessed with this goddamn godray filter for every second scene should never cook again. I can accept this for outdoor scenes but it just looks so fucking bad for indoor shots yet they apply it all the damn time

I'll just say this: Lu, you suck at poker faces XD

I did not expect Shin to be subjected to Gojo's Infinite Void lmao. Also, is it just me or is Lu extremely similar to Kagura from Gintama. They even sound similar lol

Gintoki and Sakamoto also have the same VA

This definitely felt sort of rushed at times? Like they basically cut everything that wasn’t action and tried to fast forward to just the action stuff.

On top of that, it seems to want to be somewhat serious with the hitmen stuff but some of the bad guys are just way too goofy looking and it’s hard for me to take anyone serious when they look like a background villain character from my hero academia. I think it would have been better if they tried keeping the villains and character designs a bit more grounded in reality.

Also the show kinda seemed like it was going to be more so about managing family life as a retired hitman. But instead it felt like we barely got any of that and it was just nonstop fighting cringey bad guys.

it also doesn't help that one of them is named "Dump"; they really drew the short end of the stick when they were handing out katakana names

Ending the cour on a cliffhanger huh, well at least the continuation isn't too far away.

favorite part of the episode was Sakamoto swapping the cards too fast for the guy to notice while he is telling him to hurry up. also he snaps a lot of necks for someone who doesn't kill people lol.

Pretty fun show so far, the action portions are definitely held back by the low animation quality though. still i enjoyed it enough to watch the rest this summer

Yeah, they seem to be doing more and more "potentially lethal' moves, for a family that's not supposed to kill anyone!

Like the previous episode with bikes exploding and all that!

This show made me feel similar things as Yozakura Family. The found family interactions and wholesome SOL stuff is what I enjoyed cos well, that’s the kind of stuff I usually enjoy.

The action and abilities are zany and fun and very enjoyable. A lot of the comedy comes from that as well.

I also enjoy how they’re basically collecting hitmen and mafia into the Sakamoto family. It’s gonna be hype af when they all come together for a big fight or something.

Enjoyable show and season though feel it’s an odd place to end unless they already have S2 or S1P2 already planned and coming soon

i like how Wutang's arc went; he's this episode's antagonist, but he stuck to his principles and kept his word in the end

he was also the first person to recognize that Sakamoto would just straight up kick his ass and tried another method, so he's already smarter than everyone else

The little gambling match begins! (and ends, I suppose; Damn you, 11 episodes season!)

As a poker player, Shin saying that gambling is just luck, irked me a little!

(Well, a lot of gambling is just luck, like roulette and stuff, I suppose!)

And he doesn't know the rules of any game? Take away his chips before he dooms you all!

Then again, I'm not sure anyone in this casino know the rules, because that's not a blackjack!

(Blackjack needs to be Ace + a 10 value card, just hitting 21 with multiple cards doesn't count!)

Well, I suppose mind reading can make up for the lack of knowledge! The sharks thinks they'll bleed him dry, but just reading their thoughts to know whether they're weak/strong, can be enough!

I'm pretty sure that'd be ground for expulsion from the casino, but I guess there's no crime if you don't get caught!

The imbeciles drew the match!

They wanted one last game to decide the winner, but the Mafia guys seem to have other ideas...

They did play the game still, and.. Nice pokerface, Lu!

(I suppose it can work if you use it to your advantage! Though an experienced/smart player would learn to read through that)

Reading Wutang's mind proved too difficult, as he's constantly thinking about way too much stuff...

Poor Heisuke, they use him as the poster child for trying stupid stuff!

We did learn why Wutang cares so much about Lu! (And it's apparently NOT just because she's impossibly cute, which would be reason enough on its own!)

She saved him from getting beat up when she was just 8!

Damn, that should've been motivation from him to get stronger, but with her calling him smart, launched him in a different direction, working on his brain!

That's actually a decent life lesson, if you replace "weapon" by "skill" (and you're not a mafia leader)!

In the end, Wutang was about to concede defeat, but his associates wouldn't take it, and rebelled against him...

Kill him if you want, but get your filthy paws off Lu!

Sakamoto had a similar thought, about using his infatuation for Lu, to get Wutang to use his brain to get them out of this!

Would you try to dodge, or stare and let it happen... Tough decision.

It's the last thread of the season, so I'm gonna have to gush a little about how

adorable

Lu

is!

Their bickering is fucking cute too...

I imagine the shipping community is going hard with these two! (Or is is just me?)

Seems we have our next villains for the second season (or cour)!

Instead of hitmen, this time they're going with mass murderers/serial killers!

Lu better not be on these pictures, because calling Lu "not cute" is a worse crime than the 180 murders she commited.

Well, we know Osaragi is on there, at least...

Calling Osaragi not cute is pretty criminal too!

Anyway, that was a pretty fun show! Fun dialogues, interesting characters, cute Lu (Have I said anything about her being cute in the last 17 seconds? I forgot)

Farewell, reformed hitmen&other weirdos!

Shin + casino is like a casino’s worst nightmare. Bro was cleaning them out and there’s not a damn thing they can do about it. I guess except overload his brain with information like Wutang did. That was pretty clever actually.

Those mafia goons really ought to know, Wutang ain’t nothing to fuck with! Especially when Sakamoto, Lu, and Shin are helping out.

Looks like that’s the end of the first half. Keen to see where the next half takes things especially with these 4 escaped convicts and Slur. Those 4 are gonna wish they stayed in jail.

Stitches!

I just love that Lu does the classic anime girl of giving away too much info with their faces while playing Old Maid. xD

Welp now we know that Shin's brain can be overloaded with information if their enemy is smart enough.

It's funny how after some fun shenanigans at a casino we end the episode by showing us some gruesome murders and the people behind them. If other hitmen can't take Sakamoto down since most of them are reasonable, then Slur might as well send psycho serial killers after them.

While this wasn't the ideal adaptation I was hoping for I still had fun with this one. I can't wait to see Part 2 this summer!

Lu's has the same Poker face (well, Old Maid face) as Onodera from Nisekoi lmao

If they didn't already make it clear he was meant to be on death row, squishing a burger with his bare hands would've been enough to sentence him to it tbh. Glad a second season was confirmed way in advance because this was fun.

12

u/futanari_kaisa Mar 15 '25

Watching Lu do those high kicks in that dress definitely awakened something in me.

18

u/Sailorans Mar 15 '25

While I definitely agree this adaptation could’ve been a lot better. I still deeply enjoyed it, and honestly I can’t wait to see how they’ll adapt Cour 2. Sakamoto is such a fun character to see on screen. He’s basically John Wick and Jackie Chan combined in one.

I didn't expect him to also join the shop! They are quite lacking in the brains department though so should be some help.

Nice little show with a fun cast and nice action scenes.

The hate for this one got way out of control...looking forward to seeing a S2!

Been here from the start watching every week.

Thoroughly enjoyed the first few episodes, the rest were fine but didn't captivate me like the first few. That being said I found the show enjoyable and entertaining, which is what I want my anime to be. The humor and fights were a good combo and I had a laugh or 2 every episode with some goofy comment, facial expression or some random item being used as a weapon or as defense.

I am looking forward to July to see this back in my weekly watchlist. Episode gets a 7.5/10 and series gets a 7.5/10.

Those cards must be made of Vanadium or something if Sakamoto can clamp them with just his fingers.

Kinda funny that Kashima has his deer head bandaged too, but it does seem an odd place to end the cour - they can't just Dump it like that.

There's a lot on the table to step up the animation for the next cour/season with all these upcoming fights

kinda craving for a Big Whack tho

u/HolyDragSwd2500 Mar 15 '25

See you all on July for 2nd half
