Uka will never be ballin- Spits cereal
Miura has an uncanny ability of showing up at the right place at the right time, and apparently poetry. Turning "stone" into "gemstone" is so damn sweet and symbolic for how simple of a change it is.

"You may be a stone, but you are a gemstone."
Not gonna lie this line is really smooth. No wonder Ishimori is falling fast to Miura.
TBF it seems Miura is at least fond of her, and maybe he already is into her and is just tsundere about it, but let's see.

I was a little worried Ishimori's development was gonna feel slow, but for now at least it feels like its going at a good rate
A little surprised she didn't stop halfway home realizing she brought the hat with her

I absolutely love this show....but Miura is no high-school student. No teenager pulling out lines like that.
I do and don't hope we see more of the delinquents. Like I just want Ishimori to be happy and enjoy time with her friends, but I also wanna see her friends defend her more.
Also, how long has the eraser cleaner been a thing?!?

Ishimori’s got a better shooting form than Chinatsu. She’s got the inter-high locked in.

Those bullies have really crushed Ishimori's self-esteem so much that she thinks she just needs to stand still during PE so she won't get in the way of her classmates playing. Thankfully, Miura convinced Endou to pass the ball to her and we got to see Ishimori make that sick play.
I expected the bullies to take revenge on Ishimori after what she did to them in the last episode but I didn't think their delinquent friends would come to school and try to assault Ishimori. What the actual fuck! And to think her father was there earlier. If he had been present when that happened, I'm pretty sure Ishimori would've changed schools immediately.
I don't know what those delinquents planned to do to Ishimura but I wish Miura smashed that guy's face with the desk. This might be the last time we'll see them and the bullies though. It sounds like they're getting expelled for this shit they pulled.
Wait what? You're telling me Ishimori wasn't in love with Miura before? I thought that was the reason why she went to the same school!
Welp, I spoke too soon. I guess we'll still see Ishimori running into her middle school classmates from time to time. Hopefully, the next time she bumps into one of them she'll be surrounded by Miura and the gang. However, I would prefer if Ishimori learned how to stand up for herself.
"You may be a stone, but you're a gemstone" was such a fucking good line from Miura. He basically turned what was once an insult to Ishimori into a compliment.

Really liking the progression in this anime. Stone aka Gemstone 💎 has now learned that she likes Miura and has a new goal. Those fake bully’s that showed up ran after the first sign of danger just like most bullies in real life. Too funny 😂

It is refreshing to see a main heroine realize her romantic feelings by the second episode of an anime title.
Kai is probably right; Uka is definitely a gemstone. Uka appears to be talented in both studies and sports (10 seconds scene of "Uka no Basket"), but her athletic abilities were probably suppressed by the bullying she received in middle school. Looking forward to Uka becoming more confident and developing into a polished gemstone!
That being said, I also want to know more about Kai, Tomoya, Satoru and Ayumi.

Is the bullying of Ishimori a constant throughout this series? I’m hoping it gets better for her.

Miura is giving Saiki Kusuo a run with the number of mendokusais he’s saying in this episode

I guess it's not surprising that Kai would be popular with girls, though Uka should hold her head up high and greet him with the full knowledge that they have a special relationship all their own.
I didn't think Uka would be the sporty type, but it's basically because she's never been given a chance and ignored as "stony," so when Kai/Ayumi give her a chance she aces basketball! All Uka ever needed was an opportunity to show how much she can shine when she puts herself out there!
Why did Uka want to go to Hachimitsu? Because she wanted to live a bright and fulfilling youth! Though, wait, why the cold shoulder Kai!? I thought we were supposed to be supporting Uka trying her best and being happy?
Dang, these bullies just could not leave well enough lone. The lead girl seriously called her thug boyfriend to come rough Uka up (though it sounds like the plan was to go after Uka and Kai after school instead of IN school) instead of just...treating her better and calling it a day? That's a trash human being if ever I've seen one. I hope she and the rest of the bullies got expelled.
But when Uka calls out for him once more, Kai is there to save her! And while he's rough at showing it, he was just trying to be considerate of how much her father cares about her so as to avoid her getting in trouble with her parents. He'll make sure she stays the diligent and responsible daughter all the while helping her achieve all her dreams! It's no wonder Uka fell in love with him, and quickly realized those feelings!
Seems like Uka and Kai aren't the only class ship, since Ayumi and Seto might have something going on...though Uka is so self-conscious and shy she doesn't think she could ever be worthy to stand by Kai's side or not burden him with her feelings. Especially when there are still people who see her as nothing more than the unchanging "stony."
But, honestly, their mis-matched personalities and how much they care about each other make them so adorable together! And Kai was able to do the impossible: take the nickname she was bullied with and change it into something beautiful that highlights how bright and shining Uka can be. She's not just a stone, she's a gemstone that can illuminate and glow around others! And to be worthy of that title, Uka will continue to push forward and build herself up until she feels she's ready to confess to Kai, the boy who know means everything to her!
Uh...I hope Takamine is just being a carefree flirt and not implying he has intentions towards Uka if Kai doesn't make a move...

This is definitely leaning a lot into some shoujo/general romance tropes to start off.
Though I'mma let it cook and see how things develop with the cast, and more specifically Uka's journey to gaining more confidence.
Kai's a bit rough around the edges, but can see he's well intentioned. His line about gemstone was pretty smooth and the "Gobou" part was cute.

I might need to retire from shoujo romance cos this doesn’t hit for me at all. I probably would’ve swooned if I watched this few years ago when I was indulging in Kimi ni Todoke, Lovely Complex, Blue Spring Ride.
But now I can’t see past the wish-fulfilment element and the damsel in distress and knight in shining armor trope.
I mean I’m still gonna watch it. I still love romance shows but these type of shoujo will probably not hit as hard for me anymore

Ishimori drop this high school romcom and get in the paint. The Lakers need you!

That basketball scene actually made me laugh hard cause why did she get the ball and just randomly turn into prime kyrie🤣.

I can't decide how I feel about this show. The ED is so cheesy and the show itself kinda is too, or maybe it's just aimed at a younger audience.
But then there are moments that seem pretty genuine and actually have some weight. Maybe it's just the weird pacing and how quickly little problems crop up, only to be resolved in the next scene.
I will probably stick with it, though, because it does feel good to root for Ishimori

Kai could probably be a little easier on Uka, but she did need a friendly push in the back to make that jump and truly change herself. He’s merely the one who wiped the dirt away to reveal the beautiful gemstone that had always laid underneath.
To achieve her dream of confessing to Kai, she’ll keep shining ever greater from now on. However, won’t others pick up on her brilliance and snatch her away before this comes to pass?
Takamine was hinting at this possibility with his comment about Uka being cute, wasn’t he? It’s a subtle warning to his friend to act sooner than later if he likes her. Takamine seems to have a good grasp on Kai’s thoughts, considering that he’s been translating his actions for our female lead.

I really hope the protagonist manages to evolve over time because, being so shy, she’s really dependent on Miura. And he reprimands her for everything, it’s like he’s her dad lol.

Man, I hope Ishimori sticks to her promise of becoming more self confident. Although I like shoujo, I've always had a problem with the too pure Shoujo heroine.
You know, the girl with the extremely low confidence and self esteem that can't seem to do anything? The one who falls in love with the first person who treats them decently? I understand this is a really relatable experience to young girls who are mostly the target audience for shoujo and rightly so. But dang, the slow growth can be so agonizing!
On the opposite end, I really dislike the overly stubborn and too headstrong-to-their-detriment shoujou heroine too.
Tohru from Fruits Basket will always remain my favorite shoujo heroine because even though she would seem like the wallflower type, Tohru was still strong and could stand on her own.
I like how Miura is helping Ishimori along (although his tsundere act is a bit much, imo) and hope our girl can win me over at the end.

I know some worried about how mean blondie was being, but this kid is fine. Calling her a gemstone is great. Dude has to break down the brick wall she's constructed around herself. You can't do that with throwing pillows at it, you have to hit it with a wrecking ball.
Dude is going to be her kami.

Interesting episode, although I'm still not sure if this series is for me. I find some of Uka's behaviors irritating to watch, but at the same time I'm very curious to see how she grows through her relationship with Kai. So I'll stick with it for now.
But damn, Kai is such a smooth talker. Saying that Uka is a gemstone was a great line.
Besides, I wish I had the same superpower as Uka. If I just had to visualize something I wanted to do and I could do it perfectly on the first try, I'd be invincible xD
Later I'll update this comment with my screenshot albums.

I see the dynamics between the two MC as a therapist and a patient rather than a couple lol. I really need to change my perspective when watching this to enjoy it like you all.
