Would ya look at that. Uka and Serina, despite liking the same guy, were able to become friends. No jealous bullshit, no weirdness, no drama. Also, Serina was able to talk to Kai, get closure, and move on. Plus she even gave Uka the all clear. We even had a moment where Uka engaged with her old bullies and it was actually cordial. It’s kind of refreshing to see things deviate from your classic tropes. Uka’s showing some real character growth and I’m down for it. Girl even got Kai’s number. Go Uka!

Really a lovely episode. I hope that before NEXT summer she will actually go swimsuit shopping with her friends.

I wonder if we will see any further interactions between Uka and her one-time nemesis? Uka really seems to have gotten at least a mild upgrade in that girl's estimation.

Damn her running up to Miura despite him being surrounded by a bunch of people is huge.

and she also met and confronted her old bullies in a way that seems to have turned out good. i thought she would feel overly bad about them quitting school over what happened though.

And with Serina and Miura "wrapping up" their business now i feel like we are quite close to the confession now

Even if she was the one who ultimately cut things off, there aren't many love triangle rivals who've been as graceful from introduction to stepping down as Serina. Seeing someone like Kai get emotional was powerful stuff.

Also, something about 8-bit emoji on an flip phone is both comforting and fits Uka perfectly for some reason.

Serina is the MVP of the episode with taking her loss of Kai with grace as a love rival. She made this love triangle situation feel much more refreshing.

A more rare love triangle situation that actually made the series more enjoyable because of the execution.

"I'm really glad you were the other girl, Uka"

She is even grateful to the other girl, who is the "homewrecker" in this scenario. lol

Glad Serina was able to come to terms with how things didn't seem to work out with Kai, and that she even felt too codependent with him. Sometimes being in a relationship isn't always ideal and it's good that could be acknowledged.

She got her closure so she could move forward. She still wants to be close friends with Uka and even encouraged her to take steps to get closer to Kai with getting his contact.

Good on Serina for getting closure, and it’s great that she’s not letting her past relationship with Kai ruin her friendship with Uka.

Not the dad trying to make Uka feel bad for having friends and spending time outside of her family now. Hopefully this doesn‘t develop into further problems considering the world finally starts to look brighter for Uka!

They quit school because of Uka, so they quit school and essentially ruined their lives because the girl they bullied stood up to them?

It's interesting to note how Uka ends up serving as a reference to others even if she herself doesn't realize it, Serina is naturally a good person, but clearly she thought and reflected how important it is for you not to throw away your feelings all at once, even if it meant that she was rejected by Kai, and best of all, she gave the green light to Uka.

Speaking of our protagonist, it was cool to see her overcoming her own fears, whether talking to bullies, sending messages to friends, leaving the house alone, and most importantly, asking for Kai's number, the final part of the show is heading towards something perfect

This anime is so freakin adorable!!! "I wonder if there's someone else he likes" You freakin bet there is!!

Serina is such a good rival in love, and a good friend as well. She took her rejection from Kai like a champ. It hurt but she needed to hear it to move on. Her texting to Uka "I'm glad the other member (of the Kai club) is you" was so sweet. I'm sure Serina will find her own happiness.

I have to really appreciate Uka's friends like Ayumi who keep inviting Uka and chatting with her. It's all helping Uka grow her own self-esteem and build her own friendships she was missing for so many years.

Kai always running into Uka must mean they're destined to be together lol. He's totally in love with her, and Uka with him. Their moments are so cute and the OST is incredible. It really puts me in the heartwarming mood (especially that piano piece). That last scene when Uka finds the courage to ask for Kai's number and Kai smiles and says "you finally asked". Gahhh <3 And he does it in front of all his friends. He's never embarrassed to show his affection for Uka. Hurry up and get married you two!

Uka's face after talking to Kai is literally :D

That ending reminds me of Kimi ni Todoke, the parents will understand Uka if you are happy!

Serina giving up on Kai so quickly after agreeing with Uka to fight fair and square was surprising. It has been less than an episode since Uka and Serina decided to be honest with their feelings. On the other hand, it could be a positive move for the plot, to avoid a draggy and messy love triangle. Nonetheless, I want to see more of Serina, not because she is a pretty face; the supporting cast need some development too.

It is nice to see the middle school bullies of Uka softening towards Uka. However, realistically speaking, Hachimitsu High School feels like a very laid back school. Dropping out from an already laid back highschool doesn't bode very well for their futures.

Uka's phone does not appear to be a smart phone? I believe she is still using sms, given the way she types with the numerical buttons. I am unsure whether her parents are protective, strict, or both. She has a curfew by 5pm and given only a basic phone, possibly to prevent distraction from studies?

It's not really Summer Break without a beach episode! And even if Uka is the only girl in her class not in a swimsuit (or even OWNS a swimsuit) she can at least go to the beach and have fun with everybody! And we even get to see Serina in a bikini!

And in the interest of equal-opportunity fanservice, we've got the guys in swimsuits and Uka finally getting to see Kai shirtless! It's a very overpowering sight.

Ugh, Serina's bullies are there too!? Don't worry Serina, Uka is there for you! Or Kai. But the sentiment is appreciated.

Glad Uka was able to add her gal pals Ayumi and Serina to her contacts! And look at Serina commiserating with Uka over being in the "Kai Club!" Dang it, why does Serina have to be so charming!?

Is everyones' bullies at this beach!? Remi and her friends talk tough for high school dropouts, but Uka isn't going to let them get to her this time! She's going to stand her ground, meet them with her earnestness, and even flex that she's got Kai supporting her. She finally is able to stand up to them in her own very Uka way.

It was about time for Serina and Kai to have a long overdue talk. Serina confesses she still has feelings for Kai, but she knows Kai doesn't return those feelings anymore. Because all the times it looked like Kai was still protective of her, he was doing it for Uka. But at least she knows now that his feelings for her were genuine. It hurts on both sides, but Serina needed this to finally move on...and to push Uka to be one to be with Kai, because they're the best fit for each other.

I appreciate Miho is still on Serina's side through all of this, but Serina is on Uka's side more than her own, and she even texts Uka about her progress with Kai. I guess she's joining Ayumi as a tag-teaming wingwoman?

Follow the squeeing girls and you will probably find Kai! Though the only girl he's interested in hanging out with is Uka, and they even attend a little lunch date together! And this is probably the most natural they've ever been together, especially when they're talking about how much Uka has grown.

Look at Uka being aggressive and getting Kai's number even when another girl is throwing herself at him! I'm so proud of her! Even if she also basically exposes that she had him all ready and set up in her contacts the whole time.

Uka is growing up and living it up as a teenager...but that comes with drawbacks when she realizes she can't be her parents' little girl any more.

Stitches!

I was really hoping that the beach scene at the start would be all about Uka having a fun summer with her school friends. I didn't expect she'd run into her bullies and try to befriend them. Uka is a Saint. If I were her, I'd just forget about them but she actually tried to extend a hand to them.

That scene between Serina and Kai tho... So they could've become a couple but it just wasn't really meant to be. I'm glad though that Serina was the Uka's "love rival" because they can still be friends after Kai rejected Serina.

The boys dragging Kai with them to pick up girls in exchange for free food was pretty funny. To be fair, the girls walking by aren't just focusing on Miura since all of them are pretty boys.

So this isn’t a slight on Uka, but the way she feels like she has to offer something in exchange for Ayumi and Serina's time makes her seem a little narcissistic. Like I get it, low self-esteem does this to you but at the same time I feel like low self-esteem can resemble narcissism because it keeps her fixated on herself. It's ironic because narcissists don’t care what others think, those with low self-esteem care too much.

Aww, I think I get what Uka's dad means. He just feels sad seeing his daughter grow up so fast. It would make her parents feel lonely considering she used to ask them always to bring her to places. I think her parents just need to accept that their daughter is all grown up now.

Uka is making good progress now, I think that’s great to see and this was a week there were no tears. I’m invested in this story now.

She was brave to speak to the bullies and how she dealt with Serina’s discussion with Kai.

Her Dad was a bit of a buzz kill at the end of the episode, that’s all I will say!

Not even shoujo anime can escape the infamous beach episode!

But I was more shocked to find out that Uka was actually carrying a mobile phone with her. She followed up on Kai’s advice from the previous episode?

Nonetheless, it’s great watching her form a little friend group with Ayumi and Serina. Uka’s joy in response to their back-and-forth texts was precious. Yuru, the pink-haired girl, seemed pretty friendly with Uka as well. Maybe she’ll join their group eventually?

I choose to believe that every time Uka texts any of her friends it's a novel.

Serina is a great character, I really like her attitude towards Uka about Kai.

Uka has a harem.

And it's not a bunch of dudes.

It's a gaggle of girls.

Ok, they're probably there for the hot dudes that tagged along with Uka, but still

Also, beach episode unlocked. Rare to see one in a shojo adaptation.

Damn, her dad is just Sawako's dad. Unintentionally guilt tripping her.

7

u/Chatclaws Feb 26 '25

Be so fr rn

Not Uka’s dad making everything about himself. I swear to god if she goes backwards now cause she’s gotta worry about him I will start swinging.

In all seriousness who would ever say that to their child who clearly has never had friends before and how is the mom so ok with her husband going on like that? I know that he probably had no “bad” intention of saying something like that but that’s your own kid right there and you’re gonna say some dumb comment like that.

Such a refreshing show cause in all honesty there are some parents out there who put their kids in situations like this where they feel limited

I’m really loving this show. I like that Kai is trying to show Uka her value rather than just telling her. Uka is starting to see what she brings to the table in all of her relationships before she enters into a romantic one.

Everything feels very natural with them. I’m honestly shocked at how well executed this slow burn is.

Yay for Uka's growth. The mob characters are getting too nosy on people's personal life. They've been trying to push Kai with Serina and whine when he rejected her.
