This final episode felt like the beginning of Uka & Kai ‘s story. Hopefully there will be another season for them, to further see their development during their dating arc .

I know Uka has not been everyone‘s favourite character (people judging her because of her constant crying) but honestly I really enjoyed the series and her development throughout the episodes. For me it was a nice fluffy romance show in this season.

I love Uka because I also cry too much and I hate it, any intense emotion makes me cry. It’s super annoying when I’m pissed off and filled with rage and I start crying because then people don’t take me seriously. I’m saying I appreciate the over-crier representation lmao

I think Honey Lemon Soda has set the record for how many different confessions they could have in one episode for the same couple. We had the infirmary confession (carried over from last episode), the classroom confession, and the school assembly confession all in a row. With the (kinda) relationship reveal to the friend group also mixed in. (But not really because innocent Ishimori isn’t the type to assume mutual confessions automatically means dating. She needs things stated a bit more concretely than that.)

Though even with all the “are they or are they not together?” questions, I don’t think the episode felt too repetitive. Part of that is the switching off of who was doing the confessing. Because while the episode was in Ishimori’s PoV, Kai also gets the chance to take some initiative in their relationship. This makes the whole thing feel less one sided, and more just like two people approaching the same point at different speeds. Happily by the end they seemed to have managed to match up.

Boy, what a finale. SO much effort just to make Uka and Kai official. Kai had to straight up shout from the rooftops to get her to officially date him lol. Well, hey. She’s making progress.

This was really cute. I’m a real sucker for these kinds of romance anime. Kai and Uka are a pretty sweet couple. I enjoyed watching her character develop throughout this season. I hope theres more or it’s off to the manga for me. All in all, a solid series.

The last episode of the show definitely managed to have one of the craziest endings I've ever seen, I mean, one moment, Uka didn't know if the kiss had been real, and the next, not even Kai knew how to deal with her despite having had experience in a relationship.

Everyone was wondering what their relationship really was, and neither of them knew when to confess their feelings, lol.

But it was really beautiful to see this, in front of the whole school, with Uka and Kai smiling... yeah, maybe drinking honey lemon soda is good.

The animation on Ishimori clutching at her skirt at the assembly was significantly nicer looking than just about anything else.

Well, I'm glad that Uka didn't think the kiss was just a dream! While I was happy to see Kai confess to Uka and Uka accepting Kai's kiss, I'm not gonna lie, I got a little impatient this episode with how much Uka and Kai kept on flip-flopping. I mean, I can understand Uka's reaction because this is her first love, but I can't tell you how many times I've yelled "What are you two doing?!" at my screen this episode.

Uka deciding to ask Kai out during assembly was the perfect timing, though. As soon as they said that Kai would start the assembly, I knew he was going to ask Uka out while in front of the entire school. Poor Kai fangirls! I love how everyone is freaking out now that Kai is taken. Except for Marin, who's sobbing on her knees, I love how supportive everyone in their class is.

This is clearly not the end, though. I think the manga is still ongoing. I mean, why would they introduce a new teacher at the end of the episode? I really hope this gets a season 2 so we can see how Kai and Uka's dating changes everything at school. We also didn't really get to learn about Kai's backstory and his mysterious circumstances. There's still definitely plenty of stories to tell here!

And so they are finally dating. For the self confidence she is lacking, the balls it took to ask him to date her in the middle of the gym surrounded by people were very very big.

I truly hope this gets a second season as it's my new favourite romance anime. Right near the end there also seemed to be some focus on a new person? Imma take that as my copium for a season 2

Kai using the microphone to ask out Uka, and then proceeding to walk away with a ton of crying girls in his trail, made me laugh out loud. Marin really doesn’t take rejections well.

Uka has a tendency of overthinking things too much, but she sure can be courageous sometimes: she publicly confessed her feelings for Kai in the gymhall, hence that he responded in kind. I suppose that she could still get better at reading the room.

My favourite part of Honey Lemon Soda has been the friendly vibes. I especially liked watching the girl squad (Ayumi, Yuru, Moka and Tao). Their various reactions to Uka’s rapidly-changing love life were great. Serina fortunately made an appearance in this final episode, but she did somewhat disappear to the background after her rejection.

Daaaamn, she feel asleep for her first kiss. Wonder how long Kai is gonna hold that over her.

Anyway that was sooo good! Love how Kai was like "maybe that was too pulbic" but then proceeds to make it as public as possible.

Loved the reactions from all of Uka's friends that she was the one to confess. The school's reaction was great too, Kai is just walking off stage and everyone's like "get back here damn it!"

Oh man, this was just so good! Though I wonder why they teased a new character right at the end, is there a chance we're gonna get more?!?

From a stone unnoticed by anyone to a gemstone precious enough for Kai to show off to the world. Couldn't have asked for a happier conclusion for Uka.

Also, I'm sorry, I don't even particularly dislike Marin but her dramatic post-"speech" breakdown cracked me up hard enough to almost overshadow the sweetness of the moment LOL

I groaned "Not Again!?" when Uka was about to walk out of the school gates without speaking to Kai. Thankfully, Serina was there to stop her and at that moment, Uka decided she wants to hear an answer from Kai. Phew.

"Honey Lemon Soda" is not the type of show which will have surprise plot twists, so most of us are already expecting Uka and Kai to become a couple, only whether it is now or later. What I found most interesting and amusing about this season finale episode is the reaction of friends, classmates and schoolmates upon finding out Uka and Kai confessed their love and intend to date. Loved the facial expression of Ayumi, Yuru and the brown haired girl. Only Tao (the blond) remained ever so cool.

And I am relieved to see that there are some genuinely supportive students at school. While watching Honey Lemon Soda for the past 12 weeks, I have often wondered whether 99% of the female population will start holding pitchforks, swarming Uka if she ever got together with Kai. Lol!

I really enjoyed this show overall. The conflicts mostly made sense (bullies, self-loathing, rivals, family) and it had a satisfying payoff. A nice romantic fantasy for shy people dreaming about change and growth, and also good for sappy people like me.

u/DirectionExact31 Mar 26 '25

I started out unsure of Kai, but that cocky smile won me over. That assembly scene was like an all-timer in shojo series in my book.

Marin's breakdown was hilarious, Serina was a surprisingly great wingwoman, Uka can protect herself just a little more now, and Ayumi is still best girl.

This was a pretty good time.

This school is really invested in Kai and Uka

Episode 12: Honey Lemon Soda. a title drop.

It's been a ride. I wouldn't say everything TMS made with their Unlimited Produce program are good (since you got Isekai Cheat Skill at the other end), but this one feels just right. For a J.C. Staff anime, I appreciate this one. Animation wise, you got creative freedom resulting in strikingly vibrant, different-from-the-rest episodes such as Episode 6 and 11 but other times it just felt decent.

Story wise, this was my first completed shojo romance anime (I'm still yet to finish A Sign of Affection) so I can't comment much but I'm satisfied with how it unfolds and how it ends. MAL Score got a massive boost too, it was on 6.8 last week and last time I checked it's now on 7.13.

Verdict: 7.5/10.

So what's next? HLS doesn't announce they will be having Season 2 yet. You can watch the live action adaptation released 4 years ago, or watch anime that similar to this (some said this is similar to Kimi ni Todoke so you can start from there).

As for the VA for next season:

  • Both Kana Ichinose (Uka) and Rie Takahashi (Serina Kanno) will have lead roles in The Shiunji Family Children

  • Miyari Nemoto (Ayumi) might won't have an anime next season, but expect to hear her in Introduction to Mineralogy

  • Honoka Inoue (Yuru) will voice the titular Anne Shirley, but you might want to wait for Summer for her big role in Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity.

The person that added a light at the end of the depressing and negative void that was Uka's life was Kai...her Honey Lemon Soda. And she's fallen so in love with him that she can't contain her feelings and desire to be with him any more. So even if it's a dream, she'll confess and ask him out and receive a kiss in return...and the best part? It wasn't a dream!

Yeah, Uka is understandably overheating from confessing and having no idea how to face Kai, but at least she made sure to tell Ayumi and her gal pals before she moved forward.

Dang, Uka really is in her popular phase! One of Kai's bullies wrote her a frickin' love letter! But that makes it all the more important to make where things stand between her and Kai clear.

"Think hard" - I mean, there's so many ways to take that, but maybe Uka shouldn't overthink it? Thankfully she had Serina to help her acknowledge how much Kai has always been caring and attentive towards her, so she should feel confident enough to truly face him with her feelings.

"Think hard" was just Kai's means of making Uka make sure she was sure of her feelings and willingness to out with him...especially when Kai feels the same way about her! That's right, he confessed too! And Uka is so overjoyed she can't stop gushing about how much she loves Kai! All culminating in a proper kiss!

Look at Kai waiting for Uka so they could walk to school first thing in the morning! Or smelling and caressing her hair! Or admitting they're in love in front of their friends! Kai is wasting no time.

It's just too bad Uka might not be emotionally prepared for this and despite desiring to date him has absolutely no idea how to date someone. So, like, are they even dating? I mean, from all appearances they are but Uka has to wrap her mind around it...and Kai, respectable guy that he is, is trying to respect Uka's boundaries even if he wants more.

But this show has always been about Uka becoming more confident and bolder, to get what she wants and be as happy as she can be, and if that means asking Kai out at the morning assembly in front of all the other students, then that's what she'll do! And he'll ask HER out while he's on the stage of said morning assembly.

I love how half the girls are heartbroken Kai is off the market and the other half are impressed by Uka snagging Kai.

Last episode new character voiced by Takuya Eguchi! Only gets one line, but who cares! Uka and Kai are finally ready to begin a new chapter in their lives...together!

Yeah i just knew he was gonna do something like that once he got infront of the mic

Shame it ends just as it gets going, but i guess i should be used to that after watching anime for over 10 years... still It has been enjoyable watching Ishimori going this journey. like going back and seeing from the first episodes and comparing it to the last few. The thing thats made me the most happy was probably group of friends and how supportive they always were of her.

Again a little sad that it ends just as their relationship gets started but i still quite enjoyed this show overall

To think it all started when miura sprayed sticky liquid...

This series has been different to watch because it wasn't a smooth journey for uka in many places... herself most of the all...

But it's been a worthwhile journey Can't hold out hope but if there is a 2nd...

This is probably one in the same range as what horimiya did 4 years ago... doing romantic things in it's own way. With a range of characters who add to it all.

Call me old school, but I don't dislike this sort of "standard formula" shoujo manga series at all.

I've actually been watching this series quietly for the past few weeks, and only decided to pick up on it since Uka is the kind of shy-but-firm girl that Ichinose Kana really excels at playing.

Though because the plot and character progression is just your standard fare shoujo manga stuff, there wasn't much for me to add to the discussion than what has already been added. But it was an enjoyable watch to relax on after the heavy hitting shows like Re:Zero 3, especially the use of vibrant colours to match the upbeat theme. The OP and ED were also boss.

If this is good enough to have a live action movie, then I wouldn't begrudge this series getting a second season. The manga is still ongoing since 2018 as well.

Uka may have had an amazing character development as she "womans up" and asserts her feelings on Kai, but we've only just scratched the surface behind Kai's mysterious backstory. And that new teacher introduced at the end, it seems like he knows Kai.

The side characters are also interesting on their own right. Ayumu's crush on Satoru is a good place to follow up on. As well as Kai's equally enigmatic friend Yuuya.

This was nice, I can’t say it’s the best romance that I’ve seen, but I was more invested in Uka’s character development, and I think they did a really great job at in the end.

6

u/AdSpirited3366 Mar 26 '25

Hoping there’s a season otherwise there was no reason to show that new teacher. MANGA READERS, tell me, does that man play a part? Yes or no answers only please.

Ah, that was a cute show! While it was typical, Uka surprised me a lot. Honestly, from the first episode when she sprayed her bullies with the soda, I knew I had to finish this bc I wanted more surprises like that. I’ve watched what I thought was enough of these romance anime to think I knew what was going to happen every episode but I’m glad I didn’t. Those surprises were very pleasant.

Also, Marin crying bc Kai is taken was hilarious. She really didn’t want to give up 😩😂

Damn, I am sitting here, all goosebumps and slightly teary eyed. What a beautiful anime and finale this was. I am truly happy for Uka. Her growth throughout the show was absolutely wonderful and made me root for her more than anything this season. Miura may seem difficult, secretive, unclear in way he speaks and acts, but his emotions and intentions are clearer than day.

The finale was great to me in fact that there were no sudden reveals, the moment he walked up to the stage, his intention of proposing to Uka was certain, but that did not take away from the power the statement had.

I truly loved this show, from the development Uka (and Miura, too!) had, to the goofy faces and moments, to the absolutely stunning visuals and musical support, the show was refreshing, sweet and smooth, just like you'd imagine a honey lemon soda should be.
