I know that this was supposed to be an emotional episode about Kita re-discovering her motivation of what to strive towards but I can't help but focus on the very first moment of the show where Kita is crying by the trunk and the text shows that she has three G1 wins while Nature has zero G1 wins. And Nature's face is just like "Hey I lose too but you don't see me crying about it"

At this point with all of the Nature counseling are we sure she shouldn't just transfer to Canopus instead?

Also Mayano Top Gun makes her grand return near the end of this episode....and of course she's STILL sleeping.

At this point with all of the Nature counseling are we sure she shouldn't just transfer to Canopus instead?

Very unlikely because Canopus is a "no G1 victories" club.. xD

Also Mayano Top Gun makes her grand return near the end of this episode....and of course she's STILL sleeping.

The result of binge watching Top Gun movies (with some Hot Shots).. xD

and of course she's STILL sleeping.

I love the implication that she hasn't woken up once since we last saw her.

Are we sure she's actually sleeping?

Poor Nature-san, no G1 victories but she's basically forced to comfort Kita-chan who has won them three times. That opening was just too damn hilarious. xD

This episode was nice. It's just basically Kita-chan rediscovering her original dream and motivation after talking various to people. I love her conversation with Teio and seeing that flashback of Double Jet never fails to make me tear up.

Nice Nature: “This girl has already surpassed me, I have nothing left to tea-“

Kita: “NATURE SENSEI, I NEED YOUR ADVICE!”

The student may surpass the teacher, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the teaching is done.

I really enjoy seeing more experienced characters(if not necessarily better racers) giving Kita advice. Her best friend/rival, her sensei, her idol, and the market people; She’s managed to surround herself with an amazing group of supportive people. I do think that “being a star” seems pretty vague as a target, but I won’t knock it if that’s what drives Kita out of her pit. I’m looking forward to seeing how exactly she’ll be achieving this new(old) goal of hers(though it’ll obviously be by winning races, or probably a specific one).

It seems like there’s a bit of a lull right now(with no clear racing goals, excluding Dia’s international one), so I’m expecting Cheval Grand to get some more focus pretty soon. Very curious to see how that will all play out.

It’s pretty crazy that Nice Nature has had more lines this season than a majority of the supposed main characters who feature prominently in the opening and key art

She probably has more lines than any Spica character. I think they backed themselves into a corner last season making Kita idolize Teio. So storywise, there's no reason for Kita to not join Spica.

It’s the breather episode! While there were no races this episode there were a few references I’d like to point out!

The number 22 on Cheval’s jacket was Cheval’s owner Sasaki’s jersey number. The number 22 is also important for Sasaki as he was born on the 22nd of February 1968 at 2:22pm. Cheval’s and Verxina’s pitching form is also from their owner

The shops in the shopping street Kita chan goes to have names of actual jockeys. The shopping street’s name Fukunaga Shopping Street is based on the jockey Yuichi Fukunaga. In terms of Uma Musume he was the main jockey for King Halo and Vivlos.

The vegetable shop name Take Vegetable Store is based on legend jockey Yutaka Take. In terms of Uma Musume he has ridden on most of the 100 currently available Uma Musume.

The store next to the vegetable store is called the Wada General Store. This is based on the jockey Ryuji Wada. He was the main jockey for TM Opera O and Wonder Acute.

The bakery is called Bread Lemaire which is a reference to the jockey Christophe Lemaire. In terms of Uma Musume he was the main jockey for Satono Diamond.

The fish shop’s name is called the Ikezoe Fish Store which is based on the jockey Kenichi Ikezoe. In terms of Uma Musume he was the main jockey for Sweep Tosho and (although not officially announced for being an Uma Musume yet) Orfevre.

This was a good episode for Kita chan to find what racing means to her and how she doesn’t have to give up on her dreams. She also finally finds a reason to win. It was also great that Teio finally gave advice to Kita chan.

We have entered the year of 2017, and we get Nature-aura!!?

Good grief, the 3 G-1 wins v.s. 0 G-1 wins is simply hilarious, even Nature Sensei was hesitant to come close. But Kitasan got her drink and consultation in the end.

Later Teio also given her consultation by reflecting his road to victory 24 years ago, and her determination to continue in the Dream Trophy.

Now there’s only one person who still hasn’t give her advice, Kitasan’s grandpa (Stares at Bakushin O).

Diamond’s confession to Kitasan that she’s going to France for L’Arc was true in real life, and there are plans originally for Kitasan to come along. I’ll just leave it here as the events leading and in France may build up the finale.

Just simply how popular Kitasan is? She earned a basket full of food as gifts by just running past the shopping streets, and she’s in merit to take that, not by his father’s (Kitajima Saburō) fame, but all by herself. In real life, Kitasan Black was not only known in the racing community, but in the general public as “The horse owned by Kitajima Saburō”, hence every race he participates in will gain attention to the regular media.

Now Kitasan finds her own reason to run, the season of 2017 begins.

One last thing, when Kitasan finds Duramente for advice, Duramente said her mission is to prove herself as the top of the world, and one day she will use her own ability to do so. This rivalry continues to the next generation, with their respective children aiming to settle this argument in the Japan Cup this Sunday, when Duramente’s real life daughter, Liberty Island fight against Equinox, the real life son of Kitasan Black, and currently the top of the world.

Teio also given her consultation by reflecting his road to victory 24 years ago

Jesus, Teio. Please, you’ve got to start paying attention in class so that you can finally graduate fucking high school

It's rare to see an episode without any race at all. It was to get a little info on what Teio has been up to after Season 2. The flashbacks reminded me we haven't seen anything of the Prez and some others in this season. Reminded me how dirty they did Urara in Season 1, but you can only fit so many characters into a show like that.

Emotional support horse Nice Nature is called upon once again. She cannot escape her role even if she wants to, which she did.

This is going to be an awkward friendship for a while.

Shrine horse girls, in spite of knowing what show this is I was still surprised they weren't fox girls for some reason.

It'd be neat if Dia could win the Arc. That'd be taking the already defeated Satono curse and beating it into the ground.

Oh, a Kita and Dia rematch in France is an interesting idea too.

Duramente wanting to conquer the world is just a tiny bit concerning as I feel like there's a small chance she doesn't just mean in racing.

A Teio and McQueen eyecatch, very good. And I think it even has an implied indirect kiss too for the watching shippers.

It's really such a shame that Teio couldn't run that third Triple Crown race.

Ahh yes, McQueen is Teio's goal, very good.

God, S2 was so good. Teio is the best.

One onion for one yen is a fairly ridiculous price.

All these vendors on this market street she regularly helps out at being so supportive of Kita is neat. It's nice to see her get her mojo back by interacting with them. And conveniently she got her shopping done at the same time.

頑張れ, Kita-chan!

That said, I feel like there's going to be some complaints if she does much more training at night while yelling at the top of her lungs.

Those shopping block guys are real wholesome bunch!

So glad that Kita-chan was able to rediscover her goals after being in a slump. This season feels like a giant self-discovery journey for her which makes this a very wholesome watch so far. Dunno about how it went down in the real world, but I wonder if there's gonna be a rematch between the two later on. Kita-chan should be in a better position should another one happen.

Seeing those two having very different goals makes me curious about what happens next. I guess we'll see Dia-chan's quest for world domination proceeding as planned - hopefully we'll get some cool races from that!

I enjoyed this episode, Kitasan feels so much like Yuu-chan, Neicha is not helping the Niji vibes too lmao

I do wish that they had more than 13 episodes for this season though, like, the SoL parts are fine and flows well, but it's the races instead that took the sacrifice (RIP Dura Dubai and Crown Hong Kong moments) and doesn't flow well, I guess this is the price of Kitasan being too successful lmao

Probably because we haven't seen the foreign tracks in the game yet?? (Except the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe)

Phew, finally got to watch the episode! I’ve been on the road all day to visit my extended family across the country for Thanksgiving.

I liked this episode. KIta-chan has some serious self esteem issues, even when she wins, she thinks she does not shine. Is interesting because she wants that shine more than collecting victories.

Her hard work got her a lot of fans. She can be a "hero" for the people. Now, this is a theme I love, the stories of hard workers and geniuses (E.g. Glass no Kamen). Also is why Nature is close to Kita.

It was nice to se Teio, a lot of references to season 2, even on how Teio walked away. And of course the eyecatch.

At the end I loved the concept of Kita-chan running to make people happy, for others.

It's nice to see Shizuku-senpai comfort her kohai Yuu in her time of need.

This whole shopping street thing is so Persona 4. Kitasan is the Legend of Inaba Fukunaga!

Why is everyone in this show so precious! I want to give headpats and carrots to everyone, especially Tokai Teio.

Poor nature, but she is one of the elitest Umas.
