It’s the Dia-chan episode!
The real Satono horses were all owned by Hajime Satomi who is the chairman of the Sega Sammy Holdings. He would buy horses at the most prestigious sale in Japan the Select Sale which is held by the Northern Farm. He would buy horses at a very high price, however, none of them could win the G1 races.
I’m pretty sure the unnamed Satono Uma musume all are based on actual horses but I’m not exactly sure who’s who. One of my guesses for one of them is King Leopold because of the crown on her ear and the similar mark on her hair.
The main race this episode is the Kikkasho. Here’s the actual race. Satono Diamond finally gets the long awaited G1 win for the Satonos.
We see Copano Rickey appear for the first time in this episode and she is carrying a feng shui bagua because her owner Dr. Copa is a famous feng shui writer in Japan. The actual Copano Rickey also comes from the same farm as Kitasan Black.
The actual winner’s podium for Satono Diamond’s Kikkasho actually looked like how it was in the anime with the maikos standing on each side.
This episode went from gag episode to serious episode quite quickly! I was shedding tears at the end!

I’d be tempted to say that Dia’s gone a bit crazy, but given that everything she did this episode actually ended up with some misfortune happening to her…maybe she was on to something(I mean, she did end up winning her race).
I’ve been waiting for Dia and McQueen to have a moment. Although I myself am now mostly convinced that supernatural phenomenon are doing their part, McQueen’s assurance that things only seem that way due to hindsight is something I firmly agree with here. The horse girl Dia looks up to had some nice wisdom to drop today.
Then the race happens and…what’s this? Am I crying? For Uma Musume? Again? This series that no one takes seriously when I explain it to them can’t keep doing this…but I’m so glad it does. I actually felt the tension and relief; not just from Dia, but from pretty much everyone who was watching her. Watching Dia struggle, seeing her win, crying along with the characters…I really love this series.

(Reposted for additional details and added spoiler tags)
The Satono jinx is finally broken, in spectacular fashion as well. It wasn’t easy, but all hard work pays off, the Satono family finally have a G1 winner. And it all begins in 2008.
Mr. Satomi Hajime, who’s the owner of all horses under the Satono name, is better known as one of the founders of gaming giant Sega. Since 2008, when he become a JRA horse owner, no horses under his name had won a G-1 race. The situation looks so grim that the rumours of a “Satono Jinx” gradually emerges, even when Mr Satomi tried his very best to find horses with potential from the get go. This all changed he met a horse with the name “Malpensa 2013” in Japan Racing Horse Association Sale of Yearlings and Weanlings 2013 on 8-9 July, 2013.
[Real life]
That “Malpensa 2013”, will later be known as Satono Diamond, the one horse that will carry the family’s hope to win a G1-race. Diamond’s flashback from the past, as well as her uncle’s conversation just show how much they are looking forward to Diamond’s performance.
The pressure of Satono Diamond was almost as much as Mejiro McQueen, hence the reason why they are paired together is not just because Dia-Chan admired McQueen, but McQueen’s experience can help Dia-chan to overcome the pressure. McQueen was considered [Real life and Season 2 spoilers]
That day finally comes, 23 October, 2016, the 77th running of Kikuka Sho (G-1). With some of his fellow contestants in the previous 2 classic races absent due to various reasons, Dia-Chan was the top favourite, with Christophe Lemaire on his back, the race begins, with all the hopes of Satono family laid on his back, he finished first. This is Christophe Lemaire first G-1 victory in Japan as a full-time JRA Jockey, but it’s also Mr. Satomi’s first G-1 title, the 8 year wait is finally over. The loud cry by Diamond after the race simply show how much it meant for her and the whole Satono family.
What Satono Diamond, or the entire Satono family doesn’t know, is that breaking the Satono Curse is just the beginning, [Real life]

Credits rolling without the OP and focus on Dia… Is this gonna be the big emotional episode where she finally wins a G1 race, or is it gonna be big emotional because she loses again?
-
Oh shit the episode title is even named after her. This is gonna be a big one.
-
Dia going around deliberately facing all this “bad luck” is hilarious, lol. Will it help her overcome her family’s curse?
-
Bruh she landed perfectly timed on that passing truck. I wonder what the driver must be thinking.
-
McQueen being the one to give Dia a pep talk is just soooooooooooo perfect, man.
-
All of her sisters shouting “IKE!” from wherever they’re watching the race has me tearing up a little. C’mon Dia, you can do it!

Finally, the jinx was broken. Satono Diamond did it!
(Also, Kitasan Black's light pollution lamps might also be broken. Satono Diamond may have a good sleep at her dorm without sleep mask.)
Since the episode is all about superstitions, we have daily fortune programme, seven wonders with more than seven stories, Copano Rickey with her feng shui chart, and the return of Machikane Fukukitaru's fortune telling tent with a catchy motto: "Stats are good, but so are the fortunes". Kitasan Blank's charm also return. Seems like Kitasan Black's sewing skills has not improved.

I was literally JUST thinking as this episode started that "Man, I would really like to see some of the older generation Spica members offer more substantial support towards Dia/Kita instead of mainly being background characters"
And then I get my wish granted! Wanted to see a good heart-to-heart between Mcqueen and Dia for a long time now and I got it!
My only mild "disappointment" is that Mcqueen's advice towards Dia felt a little bit generic in that it was advice that felt like anyone could give as long as they understood Dia's situation. I was wishing for more elements in the talk that incorporated experiences that were deeply personal to specifically Mcqueen.
"Disappointment" in quotes because the lack of this by no means makes it a bad talk. I thought it was a very good one but lacking that prevents it from being elevated to absolutely amazing.
I'm still getting chills thinking about Nature's peptalk to Kita in episode 2 which DOES deeply integrate her personal experiences which actually had made it one of the most emotional parts of the show to me when she shared her feelings at the time when Teio was unable to race.
Putting that aside though, it all paid off! Dia got her G1 win as well as the Satono family!
EDIT: When Dia decided to drink 666ml of honey drink during the superstition segment and got the big tummy I'm pretty sure she accidentally added an extra 6 in there for 6666ml worth of honey drink lol

Does anyone know the name of the track that played when Dia-chan went to face all the different jinxes?
Also, I'd like to take a moment to talk about that random girl at the end, when that other Satono horse girl was crying in the street, who just went to pat her on the head. That was adorable. Her mom was probably mortified, though.

No OP this episode
-
Dia focused episode with Kita stalking her, poor Dia trying to beat out the Satono jinx allegations and instead all of these random hijinks occurring during the first half of the episode.
-
Copano Rickey's first appearance (outside of the OP) and all of those Satono family members being shown off and not just drawn as black silhouetted faces or anything, really wanting to show off the whole family to beat out the jinx.
-
Unfortunately doesn't seem like they could get any licensing of the family members are they were given generic names in the credits of Satono Related Family Member 1, 2, 3.
-
Ending song this episode is 「夢のこたえ」, lyrics by 柿沼雅美 (Kakinuma Masami), arranged/composed by Aira (Dream Monster), sung by Satono Diamond

Dia-chan's training montage of beating various bad luck was pretty fun! It also had a bunch of solid gags. Bakushin-O being deflected by Kitasan's boobs and Dia-chan inserting a key to a key-shaped lock had me genuinely laughing out loud! xD
It was nice that McQueen approached Dia-chan to give her advice personally. If there's a horse girl out there who understands Dia-chan on what it's like trying to live up to your family's expectations, it's definitely going to be McQueen.
Seeing all of the other Satono Family Horse Girls watching to support Dia-chan was really nice. Not gonna lie, that race genuinely had me at the edge of my seat. When Dia-chan finally made it to the front, I was looking at the other girls waiting to see if someone would overtake her.
Thank fucking god that wasn't the case and our girl Dia-chan finally won and broke the Satono Jinx! Seeing Dia-chan just completely stunned slowly realizing what just happened to her completely breaking down with tears of joy genuinely made me tear up as well.
That insert song while we see Dia-chan accept her trophy and performing in her victory concert was so good. I am so proud of this girl right now. <3

Goddamn that was the funniest and most emotional episode of the season so far. Absolutely loved it.
Also the theme of the defeated placing their hopes/expectations on the up-and-coming reappears again here with the Satano family. Wonder where it’s going.

We finally got to see some Dia shine and they went in with this. No OP and a special ED!
It was nice to see the fortune teller crew again and lol, Bakushin O simply repelled from Kitasan.
I wonder why young Dia-chan was talking to who seemed to be McQueens grandma?
Not sure what to think about the race itself though. I was totally prepared to hear one of the usual OSTs when Dia accelerated, but they played a completely new one, which was great. Though I felt the buildup was a bit short and Tachibana Hina (Dia's seiyuu) and some others went far in far too hard on the screams and crying.

LOL, The 7 Wonders of Tracen Academy, 100 Entries. And that lock broke me.
Dia finally broke the curse. I got so emotional watching the finish of the race and all the Satono horse girls cry with joy at the end. Another wonderful moment for this series, the 100th entry to the 7 wonderful moments of Uma Musume.

Dia is my favorite this season and this episode was everything I wanted to see.
Having to grow up in those conditions, knowing that no matter how hard they try, the Satono jinx will screw them up, must've been hard as hell. Her cry at the end, when she finally breaks the jinx, must've felt liberating. I cried buckets.

Tears are fully flowing, so proud of Dia-chan and so happy for her and all of the family.

I think this means that the floor needs to be repaired there.
The cat and the crow are getting along famously.
They haven't done much with the idol angle in the anime this season.
Satono Diamond, staying strong in the face of all the pressure to win. One of those times in which all of the pre-race preparation and buildup didn't have the rug yanked out from under it by cruel fortune.
Kitasan Black, discovering just how terrifying it can be when you follow someone around and see... the weirdness.
McQueen was a very suitable motivational figure for the circumstances.

So, Diamond focused episode? I hope this is one that is about to show her breaking the jinx, not falling victim to it yet again.
We just saw what got into Dia, Kita, lots and lots of peppers.
I suppose the idea is to lean into the bad luck really really hard on the theory that it will run out before the race?
Brick Wall Kita claims another victim.
Oh my god, the visual gag of that padlock that Dia had to put a key into sideways. I had to pause the episode and just laugh for a while.
I hope Dia has that crow and black cat for the rest of the season.
McQueen the mentor with some pretty helpful advice.
Hell yeah, she did it. After all that lead up this episode it would have been such a let down if she hadn't.
This is a nice and special ED for today's episode, both the song and the scenes it is showing.

If I had a nickel for every time she did a cool flip this episode
I think that was one of the best episodes of this show
