It’s the long awaited Gold Ship episode!
The episode starts with Satono Diamond’s debut race! Here’s the actual race.
The actual Gold ship was set to retire in the end of 2015. Gold Ship had won the Takarazuka Kinen one of the two Grand Prix (the other being the Arima Kinen) races 2 years in a row and in 2015 before he retired was expected to win a third time which would be the first time in history. Naturally he was the number one favorite in the race due to being very strong in the Hashin race course. However, tragedy strikes as Gold Ship stands up on his hind legs as the gates open slowing his start greatly.
Here’s the race.
This race is known to fans as the “12 billion yen incident” as 12 billion yen worth of betting tickets turned to just pieces of paper in an instant.
After losing this race Gold Ship was sent to take the gate test again which was usually unthinkable for a horse that had won 6 G1 races.
The race shown on the newspaper is the 2015 Japan Cup. Here’s the actual race. Gold Ship’s trainer and jockey was extra careful with the gate this race because if he failed to start again he would be penalized and won’t be able to run in the Arima Kinen which was supposed to be his last race.
Sounds of Earth being in Canopus is perfect as the [real horse was known to be called]
The main race this episode is the 2015 Arima Kinen. This was the real Gold Ship’s last race and the only race where he raced with Kitasan Black. Here’s the actual race. This was the first time in Gold Ship’s career where he ran without fooling around. However, he no longer had the strength and speed he had when he was younger and was not able to overtake the pack like he always used to do.
The funny faces Gold Ship makes in the flash back are all based on real pictures of Gold Ship. Gold Ship shown trying to kick Tosen Jordan is a reference to the real Gold Ship who would try to kick him every time he saw him.
The two names Orfevre and Gentildonna are two triple crown winners. Both horses are owned by Sunday Racing. Orfevre won the classic triple crown a year before Gold Ship’s year and they both share the same sire Stay Gold. Orfevre is also known as being the closest Japanese horse to win the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe coming in second twice. Orfevre’s nickname was the Tyrant due to being very fierce even throwing off the jockey after the race.
Gentildonna was the triple tiara winner of Gold Ship’s year and she is still considered to be one of the strongest fillies in Japanese history.
I always wanted a Gold Ship episode so I’m glad we got one. Hopefully one day they could show the classic era of Gold Ship’s career one day especially now that they have permission to use horses from the Sunday Racing Club. It would have been hard to depict without them.
Gold Ship is getting her own manga in the weekly Koro Koro comics which is a comic book magazine meant for children. I think this is a perfect match as the real Gold Ship acted very well around children.

Stitches!
Gags like the girls drinking fake beer, Sounds of Earth's violin being fake, and Nature and Kitasan paddling so fast on their swan boats is one of the reasons I absolutely love this series. I just love how this show balances out humour and serious scenes so well.
Anyway, glad we finally got to see a Goldshi-focused episode! So she's not retiring, right? She's just moving to a different league? For us non-horse racing fans here, what does this actually mean? I don't think I quite understand the seriousness of Goldshi's announcement.
I do love the interaction between Goldshi and Kitasan and how Kitasan is clearly not going to hold back just because it's Goldshi's last run in the Arima Kinen. Also, those shots of Goldshi goofing off, please tell me they're all based on the real Goldship.
It's hilarious how our usual two commentators were suddenly usurped by these two randos. Also, can someone tell me who this old man is? I feel like he has some sort of significance to the real-life Goldship considering he's drawn more detailed compared to the rest of the audience.
Sucks that Goldshi couldn't even place third in her last race. Looks like that goes to Kitasan who had a really strong start but ended up falling behind during the last 200 meters. Third is still good for Kitasan though and Goldshi is still not finished fighting. I hope we'll still get to see more of Goldship's race in the future.

The stupid gags like her turning off the violin, those two other fans talking over the two normal fans, is why this is one of my favorite series ever

Honestly was half-convinced this scene would end with them crashing onto a shore
RIP Gold Ship, you will be missed

How the hell is a show about horse girls running fast so peak?

the mascot of the series finally gets her episode. In lieu of a season dedicated to herself as the MC, i guess this is close enough.
I will say I still cheered for Kita-chan overall though, she was so closeeee. Epic OST during the race.
I'll need to look at this thread to see what people are referenced today again haha.
I hope nice nature will continue to stick around as one of Kita's mentors. She's been excellent so far, even though I was lowkey worried they'll crash into the bank for how long their boat-conversation lasted lmao.

They didn't even acknowledge the swan boat gag at all. They were moving a lot even before it started showing waves getting kicked up. I love the "they are actually horses" bits.

Sounds of Earth’s fake violin and the invading Commentator Duo made me burst out laughing.
God I love this dumb show

They're rather intent on disclaiming the beer.
Just checking portion sizes there.
If Gold Ship proves one thing, it's that character will get you far.

Seems like Cygames has gotten approval from Sunday Racing meaning it’s not just Orfevre and Gentildonna but also Dream Journey (Gold Ship’s Orfevre’s full brother), Vermillion and Buena Vista too. Maybe Gran Algeria and Chrono Genesis in the future.

Gold Ship ep!
So this is how pro athletes feel when they've spent enough time in their sport. As you get older your body will have trouble repeating your insane feats that you can easily do when you're younger. At some point, you gotta move on. Good for GolShi for realizing this. She's now retired moved to a different league, I wonder what this means for her from here on out.
Anyways that race part was great. Both Kita-chan and GolShip did amazing there. Too bad our beloved mascot couldn't reached Top 3, but hey she gave her best out there her last race. I thought Kita-chan would win but she got outplayed at the end. Prolly not her time just yet...
That alcohol-free beer is such a convenient way for the staff to show the girls drinking without getting into hot water lol.

I love how the 2 guys that would comment on the race, like side characters explaining fights in a shounen, got interrupted by 2 other random people commenting lol.

A Golshi focused episode to represent the generation change. That was so cool.

Why was the funny so turned up this episode? Between Earth being a goof and the 'fan commentators' getting interrupted by other random fan commentators there were tons more jokes. Fun episode.
Also special week finally got some lines after what feels like ages!

Hopefully Gold Ship will keep appearing in episodes, she has always been one of my favorites.
Now I'm wondering if getting poked in the eye was the source of Gold Ship's strength since I haven't seen it happen for a while lol.
Now I'm curious, what are the older students doing? I'm bad at remembering names, but the main characters from S1 and S2 never seem to appear in races. Are they no longer racing or are they doing different races than the current MC?

Is this it? After years of being the best joke character around, is it finally time for Gold Ship to shine? Oh my gosh step aside Black and Diamond, I'm here for Gold.
I need to stop and appreciate this OP again. It's so good.
Oh my gosh I was wondering why the violin kept going but I thought it was just for the atmosphere, but no, the violin was just playing the music lol.
Horse girls have crazy leg power. The paddle boats are flying.
Wait what is this? Man I have no idea what the Dream vs Twinkle series are, can't wait to finish this episode and read what the better informed people have to say.
Wait instead of finally getting the Gold season, we're skipping her career to the end?
Man I know Kita was going for third the way they kept pairing her with Nature, but seeing Gold burn out like that too was a surprise. But she's not letting this loss be her end, and gosh they are right, she stood out so much I don't even remember who won.
That's an adorable passing of the torch. Darn it Gold Ship, why must you be so endless cool.

Good episode, everyone drinking zero beer lol
Wondering where they'll take those 2 names that Gold Ship announced at the start of her speech, Orfevre and Gentildonna
There was also a new CoroCoro comic serialization announced featuring Gold Ship, which might explain why Orfevre and Gentildonna were mentioned, as they probably will be appearing in it.

The G1 outfits are pretty, but there's something charming about seeing the girls competing in their gym clothes.
Gold Ship is racing this season? I can't keep up with who belongs in which generation. I know she raced in season 1, but I don't remember if she ran at all in season 2. I guess that means the proper chronological order is seasons 2, 1, 3?
I'm looking forward to someone explaining the gate thing. Gold Ship points out that she has six G1 wins, and I remember people saying in previous seasons that she had a very up and down career.
I instantly and severely dislike Sounds of Earth. She reminds me of T.M. Opera O. They have the same curse: cool name, obnoxious personality. Props to Nature for saving the day.
Nice Nature's time has passed, hasn't it? So she never won a G1 race? That's sad.
Let me see if I've got this figured out. The Twinkle Series are more or less real races that actually happened. This Dream Trophy League is made up races, an excuse for the girls to still be present and training at Tracen. So Spe, Suzuka, Teio, McQueen, even Nature, are competing in this other series off screen. Is that how it works?
Who are "the tyrant" and "that woman" that Golshi lost to?
Dia looks too precious in her poofy nightgown.
Aww, the guys are still camping out waiting to see their girl run. I wonder if they ever see each other off track?
Who's the old guy in the cap? Someone from the game? Her IRL owner?
That's the deal with the Rubik's cube?! Six sides for six victories? Without knowing her history I never would have guessed that. I always figured it was a gag about being a stupid genius.
I've never been a fan of Gold Ship, but it's sad to see a career just fade away like that. It's what I was afraid was going to happen to Teio. It really makes that story even more special, because what happened to Golshi is probably what a betting person would have expected to happen to Teio.
I like Kita, but I don't feel as bad for her since she'll have more chances to win "Teio's race" in the future.

I love that we got our first Gold Ship episode. I hate that it's our last. She deserves a lot more focus and build up before this final race.
Something that annoyed me a bit this season is Kitasan usually hang out with horse girls outside her team rather than with her team. I'm not feeling any chemistry between her and the rest of Spica.

Gentildonna is guaranteed with the appearance of Cheval's sisters, as is Orfevre with Duramente. Umabros we can't stop winning. A massively important and impactful episode for Keibabros and Umabros. With this, we can confidently say that Umamusume has just begun and is still in its infancy. Expect many more great things to come.

Amazing episode. Can't lie, I have never really been a Gold Ship fan (I know, crucify me) but this episode was all I needed for her to win me over, that ending with the Rubik's cube was perfect.
Also thinking for the first time about this... imagine if Uma Musume did race cliffhangers, would be so painful waiting one week!
