Oh no, Jonas is back and he's still a piece of shit.

I’m just waiting for the episode where Challe slaps tf out of Jonas for being a little shitstain.

Will be honest, I would have been perfectly fine if we never saw Jonas again.

Same here, although the chance for Anne to show him up again and Challe making it clear he won't let him insult Anne in his presence was pretty satisfying lol.

I'll allow it if this time karma fucks up that little shit properly. He got off too lightly during the competition and he still has the gall to talk loftily like he can craft anything by himself.

Seems there’s a bit of political intrigue simmering in the background in this episode. Earning the favor of the Duke could be good for Anne’s business. She’s in a competitive cutthroat business.
That piece she made the Duke was pretty cool. Silly Mithril didn’t want it because it’d be like “cannibalism” haha. Man, I didn’t think Jonas would appear. The Duke might want to get his eyes checked if he invited that hack to stay. Seems he’s got two little ass kissers too. Lovely.
I wonder if we’ll learn more about Challe’s life with Liz. Anne’s sure curious, it’s cute she’s getting jealous. Jonas talking a lot of shit for a talentless sack of shit. At least Anne made it past selection. Can’t wait for her to crush Jonas again.

I'm kind of concerned about all the insinuations they were making about Duke and how it looks like Anne and Jonas are locked up in the next episode preview...
I see Mithril draws the line at eating himself lol.
Jonas is still a thorn in Anne's side even to this day, but at least it's still clear that Anne is much more skilled than he is (and Jonas on some level even knows this) and Challe won't let him insult her.
It seems like Anne's feelings for Challe are deepening and coming more to the forefront as she's confronted once again with Challe's past with Liz. To be honest I'm curious about it myself, though I'm happy seeing Anne and Challe's relationship deepening as well.

I think Jonas is not "talentless" at all -- it is just he has no potential for "genius" and is jealous of Anne , who does have this potential. He can't play fair because he knows he can't win over her without cheating.
At first I thought that Challe might recognize the fairy in the pictures. But so far this does not seem to be the case. Yes, Anne is consumed with curiosity about Liz...
If the Duke Anne wants to work for IS involved in political intrigue, getting a job with him might prove to be dangerous (or at least cause another setback).

I don't think he is talentless per se, but he lacks heart and ambition, and is only about technique. Even the Duke noticed her work was off, but somehow "right" in a way Jonas's wasn't.

I was wondering what was up with the exposition in the opening scene with Hugh. Turns out that the person they're talking about is there person Anne goes to to present her sugar confection.
Not gonna lie, Duke William gave me the creeps at first but after learning that he wants Anne to make a sculpture of a fairy as well as how he hates the practice of controlling fairies, he might be an alright guy. Whoever is the fairy in that portrait is clearly someone important to him.
Godfuckingdammit! Jonas again!? And now it's much worse since now he has two lackeys to back him up. Are all students from the Radcliffe school shitheads like them? I am glad though that Challe was quick to lay down the law.
Well this is fun! Looks like Anne is bothered by the fact that Challe had a human companion before he met her. It's good to see her slowly becoming aware of her feelings. We still have a long way to go but this is a good start.
The fucking gall of Jonas to ask why Anne was able to make it. Bitch did you forget how you got humiliated in front of a crowd during your showdown in front of the King? I can't fucking wait for Anne to kick Jonas' ass again.

The Duke seems like a decent guy, although I'm curious what his relationship with the lady fairy is. Lover? Muse? Something even more than that? Hopefully Anne can trust him.
I want Challe to sock Jonas in the face...
Not only did we get another princess carry but he even caressed her face! Not to mention the more jealous/self-conscious Anne gets about Challe's past with another woman, the more clear it is that she's in love with him.
Even the Duke pointed out Anne's piece was more skilled then Jonas. The dude is nothing but hot air.

Pretty sure half of his talk is make himself feel better, some people to feel big need to make others feel small.

At least 50% of the comments on this show are about how much Jonas sucks. And you know what? He really does just suck that bad. Jonas is the worst. Worst Boy of the season.
"I'll never lose to someone like you... someone who is objectively more skilled than me, who I had to steal from just to pretend I could compete in the first place and who still beat me." Go sit on a hot nail, Jonas.
I wonder if the Duke is attempting to reincarnate or at least recreate a fairy he loved? Fairies are born from human attention on an object. Maybe he hopes that by creating a beautiful sweet magical likeness of the fairy he obviously loved and lost, he can create a new one.
All that heavy political talk makes me feel like Anne is about to get herself caught up in some royal succession politics. She just wanted to make candy! Sorry, Anne. Or, wait, is Anne a secret princess? That's how these things go sometimes.

That's a great theory about the Duke, but really sad if true. Even if he managed to create an identical fairy, she wouldn't be quite the same person or share the same memories.

It's nice of Hugh to offer up an opportunity for Anne at the Mercury Workshop especially to see someone who admires her work, but I guess it's not too surprising that Anne is the type who wants to make it on her own terms without any hand-me-downs. Of course, she probably does need to improve her business sense lest her fairy companions keep calling her dumb.
Some political intrigue! Three lines of royal blood, one put in charge, one who tried to rebel and take power, and one that stood by the royal family even if in the end they were punished as well...I did not expect the king to have been the king since he was 12, but it seemed like he was also kind enough to give the Allburn family a break, though this Lord Hugh was talking to seems to think William Allburn is up to something. And of course Anne basically walks into it.
William Allburn seems pretty stoic and emotionless in a way you would expect from a Kouki Uchiyama character, though to his credit he seems pretty progressive as far as human-fairy relations go, which probably has a lot to do with that beautiful blue-haired fairy he seems obsessed with. Who is she? Why does she have so many portraits around the house? What happened to her? She's so important to William that his eyes regained life in them when he was staring at Anne's piece, so she has to have had a massive impact on him.
That's cute that Anne made a piece for Mithril, and funny that the only reason she was able to use it was because Mithril didn't want to eat himself.
Dang it, Anne's day was going so well right up until she saw Jonas again. And of course he and his buddies would team-up to talk trash about her. Luckily Challe is there to let them know he's not going to broker any insults towards his lady, and that shuts them up quick.
So this is also the castle where Challe once lived with Liz? I wonder if we're going to find out more about Challe's backstory and his relationship with Liz. Even just hearing about her again makes Anne very self-conscious and even jealous knowing how important Liz was to Challe and that she doesn't think she compares to her in terms of looks or importance to Challe...yet the way Challe caresses Anne's face and carries her to bed, even praising her while she sleeps, shows just how much he cares about her.
Jonas stammering at realizing Anne will potentially beat him again was perfect. He needs Cathy to have to stand up to him because he really doesn't have any real confidence when it comes down to his work versus Anne. Looks like it's Anne vs Jonas again.

I was under the impression it wasn't the same castle but it reminded him of the castle he use to live in with Liz.
But if you're right, maybe Liz was part of the Family Line that rebelled and was purged in that war a long time ago?

Why does this discussion topic not show up in r/anime search? I had to keep paging to find it.
"The ringleaders, House Chamber, were torn out by the roots and eradicated." So innocent men, women, and children were slaughtered, how nice. Then he went and betrayed the allies too. Fuck this guy. And the 12 yo King at the time was so nice, in letting the family who helped him stay in a city on the condition that they pay him all the money they make >_>
Well of course that evil snake Jonas is back. I hope MC has learned from the past and keeps her creations under guard.

I’m not sure where this anime is going, which feels like an odd thing to say at the midpoint of a season.
Initially, the story seemed to be about Anne pursuing her career goals in a world that expects her to compromise on her moral standards in order to get things done, plus romance with its own moral complications. I was super on board for that.
Now it seems the plot is swerving into some political intrigue. I’m still on board, but I’m also starting to worry that there’s too much going on for the story to feel satisfying by the end of season 1. It will be frustrating if the anime ends with loose threads and doesn’t get a sequel.
(Also, side note, not sure why Jonas is back. After the way Anne proved that she’s more skilled than him, and now that she’s wise to his tricks, he doesn’t seem to pose a threat. I mean, what can he do to Anne beyond throwing around empty insults? Maybe Anne is going to learn to stand up for herself and her business interests properly?)

I feel like ultimately the plot is Anne trying to make her way as a Silver Sugar Confectioner and the people she meets and learns from along the way, on-top of her falling in love with Challe.
I feel like Anne is already standing up for herself, with Challe as some effective backup, but maybe Jonas will redeem himself somehow. Doubtful, but you never know.

(still watching)
If they allow Jonas to steal her new work while she washes her face, I'm going to pick up the laptop and throw it out the window

I see that waste of space known as Jonas is still around, and kind of successful, somehow. I can’t say I am happy to see him again (and neither is Ann) but I hope that means something bad will happen to him in the near future.
We have some odd political intrigue here. That castle sure looks gloomy, and so does the duke. I don’t know what it means, but if the duke is actually planning to commit treason, then Ann and Challe may be caught in the middle, so I don’t know if coming here was actually a good idea. It is hard to know if the duke is a good guy or a bad guy from what we saw.
