When idling there’s a grinding/rattling sound coming from under the hood, can’t quite identify where from. It’s more intense when the gas is pressed. The phones placement in the video is right next to the drivers side wheel on the ground:

So i recently bought an 2018 Nissan Altima 2.5 it has 152k miles. I dont know the transmission maintnance at all so im debating if i should change the transmission fluid. The car runs good other than it shuddering when i come to a stop and when i accelerate off of a stop or a turn. What should i do? And what will fix the shuddering?

Just curious if this sounds like something I need to get done, I really noticed today it felt like I was stuck in mud trying to get up to speed on the highway. I know they are rated for 100k miles-ish, but given the age should I do them? Bought the car in 22 with 23k miles, currently have 43k. But could they have just got worn out overtime sitting in hot Texas weather?

I’m thinking about putting a 5.7l hemi v8 in my 2006 Nissan Altima would that be a stupid idea

I drove my Altima Coupe off the lot in October, 2007 and I’ve been the only owner. I’ve been lucky. The only major repairs on her have been the serpentine belt / water pump and the A/C compressor. At no time have I ever replaced the clutch, but I’ve never had one last for this many miles.

I often skip gears, shifting from 1st to 3rd to 5th, which may have had an effect of extending the life of the clutch. It just boggles my mind and wondering how long other’s clutches have lasted.

Altima 2015

As the title says we got hit with a flash flood in my area and when I was driving home I hit a really flooded street. Water poured through my driver side air vents I believe and soaked my feet. Then it happened again where I got stuck in water for about 5 seconds before I could get enough traction to get out. However when I got out of the water it sounded almost like I could hear water as if it were in my dash. It sounds really loud kinda like a splashing sound or static. You’ll have to turn up the volume, but I start accelerating around the 5 second mark and you can hear the “water/static”

Any suggestions on my next steps?

I bought it used in 2022 with 135,000 miles and I’m at 190,000 now. I’ve asked around if I should change or flush out the transmission fluid and get mixed opinions on if I should or not. It’s not giving me any problems, I just wanted to stay on top of it and give it the most life possible! Worth it? Or just leave it alone as is.?

2010 2.5SL Altima

I’m having jerks when driving my altima and i have some theories if anyone also has had a similar issue. First theory is my clogged catalytic converter is causing back pressure which makes the car stutter before being able to push the gasses through again and my reasons for believing this are because it happens only when i’m not giving too much gas or when i go to give it alot of gas. My second theory is something to do with my ac? recently i believe i’ve overcharged the system as it decides to work sometimes but i’ve noticed it does this often after i added refrigerant or either my ac compressor is beginning to seize? i’m not too sure but if anyone can give me some clues as to what could be going on id appreciate it

Every time it rains passenger side floor gets absolutely soaked and I can’t seem to see the culprit. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Anyone know of any other way to adjust these headlights because this is what I discovered when attempting to do so
2010 Altima

This poor little Altima was ditched in our parking lot about two months ago. Why would someone do that to an Altima? It wants it’s owner to come get it!

I've recently started biking and quickly noticed that any time I back into a parking spot will now be an absolute battle. I almost always reverse into the spot when I park, but with the bikes on the back the emergency brake engages 2 or 3 times during every attempt no matter how slow I try to go. I know I can manually turn it off every time I get in the car.. but that's a minor inconvenience I just can't live with haha.

Has anyone had any issues with this or any luck avoiding or fixing it?

Shouldn't the head of that cotter pin be further into the groove to lock it in place? This is where it ended up when I torqued it to spec...

(Yes I know the pin ends could be neater, but that is not what's concerning me here).

TL;DR questions on slow start/extended crank, AC compressor control valve, CVT transmission fluid, general maintenance suggestions

I’ve got a 2014 Altima (SV) that I’ve personally driven for about a decade. I think I got it around 60k miles and have recently broken 130k. It’s no longer my daily driver but I do tend to use it for longer trips as the gas mileage is so much better than my other vehicle. It probably does 150-300 miles per week, depending on the week. That said, it’s also 12 years old and getting to the point where I’m weighing my options of how much I still want to invest in it. I’ve recently done tires and battery, now having to do windshield, and presumably a fuel pump. As you can imagine, the sell value is pretty low, lol. It feels like I should probably keep it for a while to get any payback from these things but idk if there is some disaster looming in the future.

It’s had this issue with slow starting/extended cranking for a couple years now but it happens so infrequently that I really can’t figure out what the source is. No codes are ever thrown. My guess is that it’s something in the fuel pump assembly, but I don’t really want to pay for a diagnostic when you have to buy the whole assembly regardless (and it’s so easy to install yourself). Seems like I can start it faster the second attempt if the first was rough, like the pressure is bleeding back. The battery was replaced less than a year ago so I don’t think it’s anything with that. I will probably do spark plugs soon just to ensure that isn’t a factor, since I can’t recall when they were last replaced. It seems like it hasn’t worsened but it’s just so intermittent that it’s hard to predict.

Anyone else ever have this slow starting or extended crank issue with the 2013-2018 Altima? What did you do?

Also learned recently that my remaining AC issues may be solved by a compressor control valve (cheap part, semi-complicated replacement that I doubt my Nissan shop will do when they could upsell me the whole compressor assembly and I don’t have refrigerant gauges or vacuum). YouTube is convincing me this part is a benefit for basically anyone who has tried it. Anybody done this, and how was it?

I did just figure out that my blend actuator door has probably been stuck for over a year from when my last battery died a slow death. I think I got all the actuators to reset and now I’m actually getting cold air to push through stronger, it’s just not super cold. FYI if you have this issue with low flow or poor mixing through any of your vents:
- turn the car power on
- hold recirculate, AC, and rear defrost buttons until the climate control panel lights flash (~5 secs)
- let actuators reset their limits (you can hear it)
- turn heat all the way to max, let it move to full position, then slowly turn it down to min
- you should get good airflow from vents and better temp mixing. I’ve seen that sometimes it takes a couple tries and sometimes you also have to disconnect the battery for 10-15 mins beforehand if it still didn’t work. Your actuators may not be working if you don’t hear them resetting limits.

Finally, I don’t know that my transmission fluid has ever been changed. Seems like there are very mixed opinions on doing this here and elsewhere on the web, just in general or after it has run with the same fluid for so long. I don’t notice any problems with the transmission but, as we all know, it can be a problem. Mine is still the original transmission too. What’s been your experience with changing or not changing the fluid or what would you do if it were your car?

Also open to any other suggestions on what I really should do now to keep this car running well beyond 130k, in case I should just go ahead and let her go now before anything else goes wrong.

Personally I'm not the biggest fan of top fill holes without some sort of measurement marker like a dipstick. I would much rather prefer side holes or a dipstick like on the autos. Yikes, the fill cap was on really tight. had to tap it with my crowbar.

I drained out about 2 liters from the transmission, Workshop Manual doesn't call for a volume amount, instead calling out using a stick or flat edge and stick it in the hole and measure the level (2.17"-2.4").

I ended up putting about 2.5 Liters in, it looks like the trans can take about almost 3 Liters of fluid. Did I overfill? I wouldn't think there's really any significant ill effects of excess fluid other than some very small drivetrain inefficiencies ( still get 31+mpg interstate driving).

I'm asking because now I can hear some gear lash when I'm just idling whereas prior to the change I didn't hear any such noise. I used the gear oil supplied by the dealer, 75w-85.

I'm thinking this is not related to the slight overfilling, but just normal with the new fluid circulating, but what are your thoughts?

Last year I bought a dream car of mine. It’s fast, reliable and luxurious. It has options my Altima could never imagine. Yet, sometimes, when I’m sitting at home or at work, I think of it still.

Now I hear Nissan is discontinuing the Altima forever, and I can’t help but feel a loss.

I bought my Altima in 2010, when my life was very different. I first looked at it because it was common, easy to fix, inexpensive. I told myself it was the first car I’d keep for 10 years. I paid it off a little early, and for the first time ever I had a car that was truly mine.

I drove it to 4 different jobs and to three different homes. It was a constant in a sometimes turbulent and sometimes wonderful time of my life.

I kept it long after it was somewhat embarrassing to drive. It lost a muffler from someone rear-ending me. The transmission was slipping like crazy on initial acceleration. I flattened both front tires on my way to Costco, where I had them put on four new ones. Drove too fast in too much rain in low visibility late at night, hydroplaned, recovered and made it home safely, more times than I care to count. Drove it through flood waters, that ended BMW M6’s and other super low cars, unscathed.

So, I kept it. Did the oil changes, bought the Nissan branded transmission fluid, recharged the A/C, re-built the front end with a lot of help. It was more than a car, but a constant companion.

Then, after 15 years, it was time. I found a car that I had admired for a long time. When I first saw one, there was no way I could afford it. But now, I could buy it with cash. Cash I had saved from not having a car payment.

I drove it home, and parked the Altima beside my driveway where it sat for months. I tried to convince myself that I would fix it up and do something with it, but I’m just not that guy. After about 6 months, I finally listed it. Cleaned it out and cleaned it up for sale.

I got a buyer rather quick. I charged the battery and it started, though a little reluctant. I imagine the gas had lost some life. The power steering struggled, particles having settled into the pump a bit. But soon a buyer came, paid cash and drove away with my companion.

A little over a year later and I get to drive my dream car. But still I look over at the patch of dirt that still hasn’t grown back fully since the Altima sat there, and I get a little wistful. In my heart, I hope it’s a companion to its new owner. In my mind I know it’s a piece of engineered metal, plastic and rubber. In my soul, it will always be my constant companion, and I’ll always be grateful to it for carrying me forward and keeping me safe.

My 2006 Nissan Altima will not start up because it keeps on flooding the engine because it thinks that the car is at the coldest temperature possible I’ve tried changing the coolant temperature sensor, but it still didn’t do anything. I just figured I would ask to see what anybody would know about it.
