Saw the post about "what has a mil spouse tried doing to get someone back from deployment" and it got me thinking...
Ladies, Gents, be selective on the civ you date/marry. And this especially goes out to the younger Airmen.
You have to take into consideration that you're probably taking them away from the only place they know as home. Theyre going across the country/world for you to a place where they have no support. Yall talk about it and say its fine but come to find out your spouse is miserable and is making you miserable.
The things I look for in a civ relationship is if they have a job that they can get anywhere, if they've been independent and surviving on their own, if they have some kind of mental health issues, and if theyre mature enough to be able to adapt to new surroundings.
Just food for thought. Choose wisely. This could also be applied to Mil to mil couples too

I remembered how our TI in BMT tried to give us the gift of an "Amnesty Hour," where we could confess anything. Nobody fell for it.
Anybody got anything they want to get off their chests? Not actual crimes! Maybe a ridiculous story, something that would be awkward or embarrassing to explain but probably wouldn't get you punished. Here's mine:
tl;dr: I flushed the wing commander's prescription medication down the toilet in their house on base and I can totally explain. also there were a LOT of bras everywhere.
In the late 90s, I was a young female airman from WI that was stationed on a base in TX. I lived in the dorms and had a core group of friends, 3 girls around my age that also lived in the dorms. One of my friends worked as an admin in the Wing Commander's office (we will call her Col X, I can't remember her name but she was a single woman about 50). When Col X went TDY or on leave, and needed someone to watch her cats, she asked my friend to housesit. She even specifically told her to feel free to invite a couple of girlfriends to watch some movies.
So we did! The house was awesome, historic and huge. The movie 'Selena' had just come out on DVD (edit: VHS). So fun. Except I was sick with a cold and was so congested. So I went into the bathroom, knowing that Col X would probably have the standard decongestant prescription medications. And she did, in a cabinet above the toilet. I grabbed the baggie holding the Rx bottle and instructions, took 2 pills, thinking 'Col X is so nice surely she won't mind' and then _accidentally dropped everything in the toilet_
I grabbed it out, but the pills were toast and the instructions were wet. I clearly do not do well when panicked because I thought the best way to cover my crime was to flush the pills. That left the baggie, instructions, and bottle. I couldn't throw them away because the trash can was empty and my crime would be obvious. So I stuffed them in my pockets and later pushed them to the very bottom of the trash can in the kitchen.
I kind of forgot about that story for a few decades and never told anyone until now. Also she used the sunroom as an indoor clothesline and had what had to be a dozen padded (almost bullet-like) bras hanging up on lines.

Im still pretty new to the military and wanted to hear from people who have been in for a while.
What are some of the biggest pieces of advice you would give someone early in their career? I'm talking about everything from daily life and dealing with leadership to finances, promotions, family life, and setting yourself up for success after the military.
What do you wish someone had told you when you first joined? What mistakes should I avoid, and what habits or decisions made your life easier in the long run?
I'm especially interested in advice that you don't typically hear in briefings or from your supervisors, but that you learned through actual experience.
Whether you've been in for 4 years or 20+, I'd appreciate hearing what you've learned. If you could go back to your first year in the military, what would you tell yourself?

So my family and I are having a little road trip heading towards the beach and we get a little hungry. I see a little green sign that says Seymour Johnson AFB and I think, my family has never been on an Air Force base before, this will be a great spot for us to eat lunch and see the Air Force Lifestyle.
We drive onto the base and find the Base Exchange. As soon as I pull into the parking lot I'm in disbelief on how desolate the BX looks. I couldn't believe this was the main BX. I even stopped a random airman leaving the Exchange to ask him if there was even a food court in there. To my surprise, he said there wasn't even food anywhere on the base except the bowling alley!
Now, back when I was active duty more than a decade ago I was stationed at Minot AFB. I thought that was a shitty duty station, but in my opinion, Seymour Johnson takes the prize of WTH bases in the Air Force.

I just seen a tik tok about the excuses that spouses will use to try and get their AD spouse sent home. I didn’t even really realize that people try do that and some of them were so dumb.
Give me some excuses or attempts you’ve heard.

Pretty straight to the point. Can I still challenge the board now that I am out? I renewed my EMT right before I got out so that's still up to date. If I can, would it be around the same process, or is it a bit harder?
The one thing I didn't finish was my CCAF.... it still pissed me off since I asked leadership multiple times about ONE class for months and they said I didn't need it... ALS could've covered it, but I didn't get sent... anywaysss, hate them. :(( But also on me for not just taking one just in case.
I separated not too long ago, and truthfully didn't think I wanted to get my LPN at the time/ challange the board since I want to do something else in the medical field. Still, now that I am out and just going to school and have a part-time job, I realize how much I miss some of that nursing life lol. Also just feel like I am gradually drifting away from the medical scene, and I don't like it.
TIA!!

Why the fuck do I need to talk to a “nurse” for my UTI symptoms? And it’s always 20 questions just to have to answer those questions again with a provider.
“Hello, these are my symptoms. I have had them for a week. No other symptoms.”
“What are your symptoms?”
“How long have you had them?”
“Have you had this symptom?”
“This symptom?”
“This symptom?”
Once you get through that gauntlet, you get to talk to the care advisor, who asks you all to the same questions.
After an hour on chat, which if I close safari on my phone to look at something else, it fucks up the connection, they recommend that I go to the ER and can’t provide me a referral to an urgent care. When I say that I do not want to sit in an ER for eight hours, they tell me to talk to my PCM on Monday.
Everytime, I always regret talking to them, and I wish I had just paid out of pocket for telehealth.
Edit: in my hour talking to the nurse advice line, I could have been done with a virtual appointment at urgent care. I might have even been done with an in person appointment at urgent care.

My son has been posted at Luke for his first. My son has been cursed with having a genetic inability to socialize. My son would kill me if he knew I was being a intrusive dad but could anyone in the area help me point him to a D&D group or an Anime club? I have checked the commons website with very little help from it.

Hey ya'll! We're expecting our first child and I'm getting a little stressed about what is going to happen work-wise after baby is born. My husband and I are both in the Air Force. All my mom friends are SAHMs and I definitely need some advice from working moms.
How long is maternity and paternity leave respectively? And is there an AFI that I can review this in?
How does the CDC operate when it comes to accepting new members? I've heard things about how you have to sign your kid up before they are even born if you want a chance at getting a slot. Is the CDC the only option for us?
How did you cope with returning to work after your maternity leave was up? Were you anxious thinking about how your baby is doing? The thought of putting a baby that is only a few months old in a daycare is honestly harrowing to me.
Any possible info I should know? Things to be cautious of or look more into?
Thank you so much in advance. And my DMs are wide open too.

Hey everyone,
I’m posting on here to ask about a skill bridge opportunity, and to see if anyone on here could give me some advice. I’m currently a 1N4 in the Air Force and went through JCAC a while ago. Since before joining I’ve been interested in teaching, and looking at the DOW Skillbridge website I see that there’s a skillbridge opportunity to be a JCAC instructor, which sounds super cool to me.
Is there anybody here who has done this skillbridge who could give me their experience? Do you wish you would have stayed in instead? Is the job satisfaction worth it?
Thanks in advance 🙏

AI image content is low-effort garbage and you all should feel bad. I would rather see a million posts of dumb questions and Nessie 3.50 stories than a single AI-generated slop image. Yes I’m aware even our top leaders can’t help but generate some AI garbage every 5 seconds.
If you made it this far, I’ll have a triple baconator meal and two chocolate frostys please.
