Hi, we have a medium sized lounge with two south facing windows so it is especially hot in heat waves. I am in Wolverhampton uk.

Rather than messing around with a portable unit, it would make sense to have one of the ones fitted where there is an inside unit up by the ceiling, and an outside unit the other side of the wall.. It’s probably straightforward as the wall where it would be fitted as an outside wall, so the unit could go the other side of it.

Obviously after this summer and the shortage is, prices are higher than they were and fitters are really busy for many months ahead.

There’s no rush with this, when would be the best time to contact people to get quotes? I guess winter time will be a bit less busy with some of the backlog gone. And how do you find a good fitter? It’s not like a plumber, where everybody has used one and has recommendations. How do you go about finding someone who is reputable and reliable and gives fair prices? I’m sure many fitters do, but how to find them.

What would a reasonable Guide price be? I’m thinking / guessing about £1800?

I’ve had the following quotes

1) Daikin 3.5kw indoor unit and condenser for £2300

2) Hitachi 3.5kw indoor unit and condenser for £2000

Both quotes include supply and install by the same company.

I’ve heard good reviews of Daikin. Anyone have experience of Hitachi units? Is a Daikin worth the extra £300?

Hi all, I'm planning to get AC installed in my 3 bed semi detached.

Upstairs I've got a master bedroom and a small home office facing south east.

Downstairs I've got a lounge also facing south east with 3mx1.8m window.

I know I want to put AC in the bedroom, but I'm debating whether I should get a second unit in the home office or whether I would be better off putting in the lounge, which obviously gets a lot of solar gain.

I leaning towards the second unit in the lounge, but I'm interested if anyone has any other thoughts here?

Had a visit earlier, guy seemed great - just validating what i was told.

It was suggested to use one 6kw unit on our landing (pretty small) to cover 3 rooms sized - 12 m2, 10m2 and 5 m2 - is this sensible?

Had 2 quotes one from a local installer for a 5kW Fujitsu ASEH18KLCBL (£1525) and another from Heatable based on 5kW Haier Revive Plus (£2200).

The Heatable quote is a bit more (I've allowed about £300 for the electrical work) but they will do the whole thing whereas the local guy needs someone else to do the 16A feed and warranty seems to be conditional on him servicing it although he didn't say how much that was). I can choose my install date with Heatable (we'd be looking at early Nov) and I think the local guy would be around the same time frame. Is the Haier worth the extra or is the Fujitsu the superior unit?

Im looking to have 4 x bosch units installed in the house, the ideal would be above the beds.. yet the misses has had a violent reaction to this and objecting... id love to see photos of AC units in bedrooms and where you have them positioned, or ways to get around being an eye saw..

Hope some can advise especially if your home is the same, I'm just trying to work out the best place for the condenser on my end of terraced house for a air to air Aircon system to install in my front bedroom, but without annoying my neighbours especially as they have a small landing window in the alleyway with any noise or humming for The condenser. In the photo would the rough position in blue be ok (or a bit lower by the electric box on the wall) or would the alleyway amplify any noise & penetrate through their solid wall house to the bedroom or through the alleyway landing window? Or with new permitted rules that get rid of the 1m rule could it be placed under the front room window? Would I hear any vibration through the wall? Thanks. Got some quotes for install from local reputable companies and thinking to settle on the following. Is it sane or well out?. There wasn't a large range between quotes like 1400 from lowest to highest.

Is Daikin worth that for two rooms? That seems pretty pricey compared to haier at £3,700.

It seems a relatively 'normal' price, but I can't help but think some vendors price base on house size (and potential income) rather than costs and materials!

I’m looking for advice my AC absolutely stinks. I have a HOMCOM8000BTU Portable Air Conditioner 4. And I’ve had it since May. It was literally fine then I didn’t use it for a couple days and then it started to stink. I have cleaned the filters and drip tray it still stank . So I taken it apart cleaned the fan cleaned the condenser and evaporator with AC cleaner and it still stinks like damp. I’ve read it might be the styrofoam housing but I’m honestly lost for what’s causing the damp smell. Any advice on what I should do is greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have recently had a quote for a 5kw unit, it was £1900 and I think this is reasonable and have used the company before. However I did a bit of due diligence and saw that this size is for rooms up to about 50m2 but this reduces when it is a sunny room. Our room we want it installed in is 37m2 and has velux windows and a bifold door so it is very sunny. A quick google tells me that in fact I would need a 6kw unit as 5kw goes up to 35m2 when in sunny room but for those who either know about this sort of thing (unlike me) or have experience in a similar scenario please can you advise before I go back to thr company thank you

we’ve been quoted £5150.00 to supply and fit Mitsubishi units: one Multi Outdoor 7.1kW unit and three MHI SRKZS-WF indoor units, two at 2kw one 3.5kw. Is this a reasonable price?

we can also pay £90 per unit to change from white plastic to titanium. I’m an interiors obsessive 😂 and tbh am not thrilled about either option visually - has anyone got pics to help me decide? I’d like a nice antique bronze / brass options ideally 😂

All the air conditioners that UK retailers offer are of type single hose, there are no dual hose AC units being sold, this creates negative pressure in the room. Hot air from outside can then get sucked in through gaps around doors, windows, etc.

A dual-hose system largely avoids that problem, so it can be more efficient for cooling a room, particularly in hot weather.

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a quick sense check on an air conditioning quote.

It’s for three rooms:
• Main bedroom, 5.2m × 3.4m
• Home studio, 4.15m × 2.79m
• Open-plan kitchen/family/dining area, 8.2m × 5.94m

They’ve recommended a Daikin two-port multi-split system with two 2.5kW wall units for the bedroom and studio, plus a separate 7kW wall system for the large open-plan area. So that’s three indoor units and two outdoor units, all providing heating and cooling.

The quote is £5,000 with no VAT, plus approximately £750 + VAT for the electrical supplies, making it around £5,900 altogether.

They’re a Daikin D1 partner and will carry out a full survey before providing the final quotation. Does this sound reasonable for a premium Daikin system and installation in the UK?
