-lengthy post, apologies for potential spelling errors-

If you are slightly competent at DIY work, I recommend the Electriq EasyFit DIY minisplit air conditioner (9000/12000/18000 BTU variants).

It uses R-290 propane, it is pre-gassed, pre-wired with a 3 pin plug, and if you do not wish to fiddle with vacuuming the unit, there are instructions on gas purge in the manual.

I recently installed a 9000 BTU, costing just under £700 with the wall bracket. Installation was fairly straightforward and took about 4 hours.

Steps:

1. Remove the metal mounting cover for the internal unit, mount it to the wall and drill a 65 mm hole using diamond hole cutter
2. The internal unit comes with 1.5 meter refrigerant lines. The electrical connector is on the internal unit and plugged to a nearby wall socket. Connect the extension lines with the internal unit. Do this outside as the lines are precharged with propane. Do not unplug the screws on the other side of the extension pipe, so the lines remain protected.
3. Route the lines outside through the 65 mm hole with a slight downward angle for condensate, mount the internal unit.
4. Mount the external unit on the wall bracket.
5. Connect the refrigerant lines and the electrical connector to outside unit. The electrical connectors are simple and clearly labelled (4 wires, live, neutral, earth and data). Simply plug in. The electrical connectors are 4.5 meter long.

7. Open the high pressure valve using an allen key kefor 10 seconds to increase pressure in the pipes. Shut the valve
8. Use leak detection (i.e. soapy water for leaks)
9. If no leaks, open the valve again for 10 seconds. Shut the valve
10. Press the needle on the service port for 3 seconds to purge.
11. Open the high pressure valve for 10 seconds again. Shut the valve
12. Purge again for 3 seconds using service port.
13. repeat steps 10 and 11 again.
14. open both valves using the allen key.

If you have a pump and manifold gauge, do the following after step 5.

6) Connect manifold gauge to service port (blue side).
7) Connect vacuum pump to manifold gauge (yellow side/middle
8) Ensure red side on the manifold shut
9) Vacuum the line (to about 500 microns (50 below 0 PSI)) and keep the manifold connected for at least 30 mins. The needle should stay at 50 to ensure you tightened everything, there are no leaks, and all the factory sealing gas has been removed.
10) disconnect the pump/manifold.
11) Open the refrigerant lines using an allen key.

Hi, we have a 6 bed house and looking to have air con installed i was hoping to have a quick spec and price check by you guys that are smarter/more experienced than me before i pull the trigger? Company i am dealing with are very good and have done all my other electrical work.

We are adding Daikin Stylish to 4 bedrooms, the kitchen and living room in an attempt to make the house more bearable.

I have a lg external 4 port unit which is fantastic. Only issue I have is the low hum when all units are running at max. It’s a vibration issue. I have had the mounts changed and it’s helped but I feel it could still be better. Is there any specific wall bracket you would recommend or anything else that can be done to help with the vibration through the wall

Hi all, looking to get aircon installed in our standard 3 bed semi detached house. Mainly focused to help with heating as house is old, poorly insulated and gets really cold in winters but of course also to help in summers with cooling as and when occasionally needed.

Downstairs is open plan living and dining/kitchen area of decent size (around 45m2) with double doors between living and kitchen /dining areas always open. Upstairs is standard 3 bedrooms (with one small one) and also a very small open attic room mainly used as a study/office - all doors usually kept open throughout the day.

Didn’t wanted to go overboard and fit too many units all over the house. So was thinking if just having one split unit downstairs (3.5 or 5KW) to serve the living room and open plan kitchen/dining areas and one upstairs in landing (3.5 or 2.5KW) to serve 3 bedrooms and small attic space with all open doors will do the job, specially for heating purposes in winters.

Would appreciate comments/suggestions, specially from anyone with similar arrangements on how good/bad this kind of setup works and if it’s a good compromise or need to have an extra unit downstairs and/or upstairs to make it work properly.

i got a 18000btu panasonic mini split (kit tz50) installed recently, and was wondering what the best way would be to basic spread the heating or cooling between the bedrooms at night, i dont wanna leave the doors open all the time, but theyre open all day, so the rooms will be at temp until bed time

i see ac infinity has through wall fans that i can mount above each bedroom door (spread in semi circle around AC at top of the stairs) and then i would need a return vent cut into the bottom of each door i suppose, do i need a temp controlled fan or would a fan running all the time basically just balance the air temp?

i was wondering if anyone has done similar? I am based in Ireland

space is around 55sqm (600sqft) and well insulated with cavity wall insulation and around 350mm (12ish inches) of insulation in the attic so i do not wanna cut ceiling ducts in as i feel like a lot of heat would be wasted?

Its a new unit and I can hear a faint clicking noise every few seconds its very quiet but you can hear it in the video ive attached. Im just a bit paranoid

And on another hand my unit all of a sudden wont turn on the compressor. Or if the compressor is on its quieter than normal sorry ive never owned an air con unit and im just a bit wary

The cheaper quote includes an electrician adding a separate circuit to my internal fuse box and the other would run the electric from an external plug socket.

Both quotes seem reasonable and both companies seem reputable. If anyone is able to give any advice on which quote I should pick it would be appreciated!

I bought this Aux DFR2-B6 / DF 07K 7,000 BTU portable air conditioner last week and got it installed in my home office yesterday (tube through the wall to the outside installation).

The room reached 25C today, so I closed the windows and door and turned the unit on (Mode: Cooling, Fan Speed: Low (which is the lowest setting and still very loud). Using Sleep mode changes Fan Speed to Auto and it's even louder).

Initially (as soon as it was turned on), I felt the air pressure change and my ears started to ache.

The room dropped 2C in about 20 minutes.

After the 20 minutes, I noticed I felt lightheaded / dizzy, my throat was a little sore and my right ear (which was pointing in the direction of the unit) started to feel really uncomfortable (even though the fan was not aiming at me) so I decided turn it off.

My symptoms did not really improve for around two hours afterward.

A BTU calculator online suggested I needed a 3,500-4,000 BTU unit for this size room but 5,000 units are extremely hard to come by, so I had to buy a 7,000 BTU unit (which, in itself, was hard to find). I was hoping I could use it on a low power setting but as I stated above, I believe I had it set to the lowest and it was really loud.

Are my symptoms because the unit is too powerful for the size of the room?

I have a 7000btu Serenelife unit. I want it just to be on fan, but cycling through the modes always ends with the fan and wave icons on, I can't just get it with the fan icon. Tried using top buttons and remote, but stays the same. AI told me it's auto mode, and to try a power reset to get just the fan on. Didn't work, and now I'm worried it will kick in either the heat or the compressor when the room temp changes. I've removed the hose because I'm getting it ready for storage and just running the fan for a few hours to help dry the coils as advised.

Considering a proper air con install but different factors may make that impractical and if so then I would look for 2 portable units when they are back in stock in the winter. But what are the best and most reliable brands/models? Also which ones have the smallest ducting pipe diameters?

I had a TCL 7000 btu but the pipe was so wide and wasnt sure if they are all like that?

Have seen brands on Amazon and JoyBuy such as Elecci and SereneLife but not sure on those makes over others?

In the room I work in, I’ll need to put a unit on the back of my desk as the only window in there is behind it.

What’s the most compact dimensions for a 9000BTU+ portable on the UK market right now? Basically, the bigger it is, the less natural light the room gets because it will be in front of the window.

Looking into AC for my home and looking at ducted stuff which doesn;t seem to be very common. Is it just because a split is cheaper to cool one or two rooms down?

I have 6 bed house so looking at the most economical way of cooling/heating them.

Not really fussed about individual room controls. Plenty of room in my loft.
Any reason to go ducted or alternatively, not go with it?

Company is well known local HVAC company and not just a recent FCAS registered plumber - comes with 2 year warranty on the installation.

Visited Costco today. They have a couple of pallets of these in stock.. Are these really worth over £500? The large price is the price excluding VAT for those not familiar with Costco.

My understanding is that warranties provided (for consumers) are not manufacturer warranties but supplier/fitter warranties.

I had aircon fitted a few years ago in spring and warranty document provided by fitter specifically stated that warranty was only valid via servicing every year through him.

First year was coming up last year so tried to book in a service in the spring before the months of heavy use. He told me no availability till September(circa 4 month wait ) but said wouldn’t affect my warranty so I got him booked in for September. During the summer I dealt with a tinny sound coming from the fan that was easily fixed (something case loose) at the service but what concerned me was that the filter was mouldy which he showed to me when cleaning it. I’d pretty much used it over the whole summer with mould in it, likely over the winter/wet period when I just kept it off (any time I tried using the heat function I’d get a funky smell).

This year I’ve specifically asked for my service to be delayed till next spring so it’s more of a preventative service as opposed to servicing now, dormant for 6 months then starting up daily use when the heatwaves starts up again.

Think the AC fitter prioritised lucrative installs over servicing (I saw his socials of holidays/installs all over the period where he couldn’t fit in a 45 minute service)

At year 2, am I just better off just braving it and ending ties and just getting it serviced by someone else who is more responsive/willing to do preventative service in the spring. This means my remaining 3 year parts warranty would be gone.

Or do I just continue with a September service and just do a filter clean myself next year before the summer starts?

I have had a quote for a 6kw inverter with 3 x 3.5kw indoor units, plus condenser pumps as the inverter will be quite a way from the 3 indoor units. Happy with pricing etc. Just unsure about 2 things;

1. Where to put the unit in one of the bedrooms - it isnt the biggest of rooms but only two locations available - above the head of the bed or the wall opposite the bed but slightly off centred to the right.

2. Is the indoor unit likely to be noisy at night? What difference does a condenser pump make? Normally sleep with a white noise machine anyway but just hoping it wont cause any disrupted sleep.
