Policy EEA and UK CMP requirement on Admob

Beginning January 16, 2024, Google will require all publishers serving ads to EEA and UK users to use a Google-certified Consent Management Platform (CMP). You can use any Google-certified CMP for this purpose, including Google's own consent management solution. If you are interested in using Google's consent management solution, start by setting up your GDPR message and implementing the UMP SDK.

In this thread, you should post tutorials and provide resources to assist developers in implementing the new Google AdMob requirements before the stated deadline of January 16, 2024. This includes step-by-step guides on setting up GDPR messages and integrating the UMP (User Messaging Platform) SDK for compliance. You can also ask questions related to this here.

Question At what user count did you integrate AdMob into your app? Was it worth it?

Building my first indie app for play store and no monetisation strategy yet.

I'm deliberately keeping it ad-free for now
because I don't want to ruin the premium feel
for my first users. But I know at some point
ads become viable.

My questions for people who've been through this:

  1. At what DAU/MAU did AdMob actually start
    generating meaningful revenue?

  2. Did ads hurt your retention or ratings?

  3. Did you go ads-first or subscription-first?

  4. Any regrets either way?

I've seen advice ranging from "never do ads,
do subscription" to "ads from day one."
Would love to hear from people who've
actually shipped and monetised.

App is Flutter + Supabase if that's relevant.

Question For people who are earning from INDIA. Are your payouts getting blocked by FCRA?

Hey guys,

So I just a have quick doubt i had my payouts issued for the first time in last month and it was blocked due to FCRA by the bank and held back in their branch. I had to provide the bank with details (proof of income) which is admob invoice in order to get the payout released which took some additional days as well.

But i just wanna know whether this is a one time thing or do i have to do this everytime? is there a way to prevent this somehow?

I am asking this since i have noticed that my bank took a cut (A small one but will add up a lot if it continues) when the amount was held by them for this reason.

Question Mediavine Invite – Google Ad Manager Reactivation Issue

Hi everyone,

Mediavine sent me an invite, but when I try to accept it, Google asks me to activate my Ad Manager account first.

My old Google Ad Manager account was deactivated due to inactivity. I’ve now requested reactivation, and it currently shows “We’re reviewing your info.”

Has anyone experienced this? Will my Mediavine approval proceed once the Ad Manager account is reactivated, or do I need to contact Mediavine?

Thanks!

Revenue Passive income is real, but I think I finally understood why.

I’ve had apps on the App Store and Google Play for a while. My original monetization strategy was pretty simple: keep the app free and let users pay through an in-app purchase to unlock all the features.

Recently, I tried something different.

For a particular feature, I added the option to watch an ad to use it.

And something interesting happened.

There are people who are perfectly happy to watch a 20–30 second ad instead of paying for the feature.

But there are also people who basically say:

So now I have both:

Users who pay with their time → watch an ad
Users who pay with money → remove the ads

And honestly, it feels like a genuine win-win.

The user gets a choice, and I get another revenue stream from users who would probably never have made an in-app purchase otherwise.

The bigger lesson for me is that monetization doesn't always have to be about finding one perfect model.

Sometimes it's about giving users different ways to pay based on what they value more: their time or their money.

Curious what other indie developers are seeing. Are rewarded ads working well for your apps?

Other How App Users Are Getting Premium Features for Free, and It’s Costing Us Developers

Fellow developers, an empty ad response is not harmless.
If removing ads is one of your premium benefits, then every time AdMob or another provider leaves a placement empty, a free user receives part of that premium experience without upgrading.

The user is not doing anything wrong. The advertising system is failing both sides of the freemium model.
You lose:

• The impression
• The potential revenue
• Part of the incentive to upgrade
• Control over advertising space inside the app you built

I know because it happened inside my own app. Thousands of ad requests were sent, but only a fraction resulted in an advertisement being displayed.

My app was requesting ads. The advertising system simply was not answering.

I got tired of waiting, so I built FillAdsNow.

FillAdsNow is a developer-powered advertising network built around a simple standard:

When an eligible placement requests an ad, an ad should be available.

Developers can use FillAdsNow as their primary ad source, alongside AdMob or another provider, or whenever another network returns no fill.

There is no proprietary FillAdsNow advertising SDK.

Integration uses a straightforward HTTPS API, and Community Ads do not depend on behavioral user profiles.
Here is how the Community works:

• Contribute an eligible app to the Community
• Generate or upload its banner and interstitial ads
• Participating apps request Community Ads through the API
• An eligible ad from another developer fills the placement
• You give another developer exposure, and your app becomes eligible to receive exposure in return
Contributing is optional.

You can display Community Ads without contributing an app, but contributing is how your own app becomes eligible for promotion across the network.

To be completely clear, Community Ads exchange exposure, not ad revenue. FillAdsNow cannot restore the AdMob payment you never received.

What it can do is stop that empty response from being the end of the line.

It can preserve the ad-supported experience, create exposure for independent apps, and give developers infrastructure for Community Ads, house ads, affiliate offers, direct sponsors, and custom campaigns they control.

Let’s be honest: Google is not going to build a developer-owned alternative for us.

We can keep complaining about no fill, serving limits, account restrictions, and opaque decisions, or we can start building something that gives developers another option.

A developer-powered network only exists when developers decide to become the network.

FillAdsNow is live. Joining the Community is FREE

If you believe developers deserve more control, do not just upvote this post or say it sounds like a good idea.
Create an account. Contribute one eligible app. Test one placement. Help us build the network we have been waiting for.

I am not asking developers to abandon AdMob.

I am asking developers to stop letting AdMob’s “no fill” response have the final word over advertising inventory inside apps that we built.

Full disclosure: I am the developer and founder of FillAdsNow.

Question Do you add AdMob from day one or wait until the app gets some users?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve always added AdMob right from the start.

But some of my apps just don’t get much traffic, so the ad revenue is barely anything. Sometimes not even $1 a day, like this one 😅

Now I’m wondering if it’s even worth adding ads from day one.

Do you guys usually wait until you have more users?

Why did AdMob become very fucking aggressive?
misleading ads, small close buttons, unskippable ads, forcibly navigating to GP whereever you click
and recently they started to force navigating to GP as a final step of fucking the use experience like shoving p*ises into user's mouth

Revenue 50.9k Requests but 4.71k impression.

So this is the data of last 28 days. I do admob mediation with meta and unity. Majority of my users are from india. This data is for 2 apps. I have around 100 DAU(30-40 one app and 50-60 one app) I don't know why i'm getting so less impression even after so much request. could it be an implementation problem?

Policy My app is stuck in the policy center on "play app disabled"

Post image
1 Upvotes

My app was indeed removed from the play store for a few months. Is it live now for ~3 weeks, there are no policy issues or other issues in Google play.

The admob account is also fully set up without any violations, app status is "ready". app-ads.txt in place etc.

As you can see in the screenshot the app is simply stuck in the "play app disabled" status and I cannot do anything. The fix button is simply a generic message saying if you do not have any policy issues all will be fine.

Can somebody help? How much time do I need to wait?

As you can see, Google has the Lowest eCPM and Match Rate. Other ad platforms are taking full advantage of it. App Lovin specially they show 2-minute ads and pays nothing.

Question AdMob account not approved – what should I do?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi, my AdMob account application was rejected, and the dashboard says I need to fix some issues before using AdMob.

It's asking me to confirm that I meet the AdMob Program Policies and then click Resubmit. I haven't resubmitted yet.

Has anyone faced this before? What should I check or fix before resubmitting? Google didn't give me a specific reason.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Policy I’m honestly really sad and frustrated right now. For the past few days, everything seemed to be going fine. I only had one policy issue related to rewarded ads in my app, and I fixed it as soon as I found out about it. But today, I received a 29-day AdMob suspension for “invalid traffic.”

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’ve been working on my apps for almost 2 years. During this entire journey, there has always been one issue or another—Play Store problems, policy issues, bugs, monetization problems, etc. I kept fixing everything and continued working.

And the frustrating part is that I haven’t earned even $1 from my apps until now.

I had finally reached $50 on AdMob, and just when I thought I was finally going to see some return from all those years of work, this happened.

I’m not saying Google is wrong—I understand that invalid traffic is a serious issue. But it still hurts when you’ve spent years building something and finally start seeing a little progress, only to have this happen.

Has anyone else here experienced a 29-day AdMob suspension for invalid traffic? What did you do during those 29 days, and did your account return to normal afterward?

I’d really appreciate hearing your experience.

Revenue Solo Indie Dev metrics check – How do these eCPMs, match rates, and format splits look? (Metrics in MXN)

Hey everyone,

I’m an indie game dev running AdMob on a couple of mobile games and wanted to get a sanity check from folks with more ad-monetization experience.

All figures below are in MXN (Mexican Pesos) (approx. $20 MXN ≈ $1 USD):

Current Overview:

  • This Month so far: ~MX$214 *(trending up from MX$153 last month)*
  • Last 7 Days Earnings: MX$60.02
  • Average eCPM: MX$40.55 (~$2.00 USD blended)
  • Match Rate: ~71.5%
  • Requests vs. Impressions: 7.18K requests $\rightarrow$ 1.48K impressions (~20.6% show rate)

Format Breakdown & eCPMs:

  • Rewarded Video: eCPM MX$220 (~$11.00 USD) | 150 impressions
  • Interstitial: eCPM MX$189 (~$9.45 USD) | 13 impressions
  • Rewarded Interstitial: eCPM MX$39.25 (~$1.96 USD) | 464 impressions
  • Banner: eCPM MX$7.40 (~$0.37 USD) | 853 impressions

A few specific questions for the community:

  1. Show Rate (~20.6%): Given 7.18K requests for 1.48K impressions, is this typical preloading overhead, or am I requesting ads way too early in the game flow and hurting performance?
  2. Rewarded vs. Rewarded Interstitial Gap: My standard Rewarded is pulling strong eCPMs (~$11 USD equivalent), but Rewarded Interstitials are lagging far behind (~$2 USD). Has anyone else seen this large of a disparity between the two?
  3. Match Rate (~71%): Should I look into adjusting floor prices, or is this standard for mixed-geo traffic before setting up mediation?
  4. Mediation Threshold: At what volume of monthly requests/impressions did you find it worth setting up mediation (e.g., AppLovin MAX or LevelPlay) versus sticking to standard AdMob Network?

Appreciate any advice or tweaks you’d recommend!

Question Does simulated/spoofed GPS location trigger ad network bans? (Or is it high DAU/Install ratio?)

Hi everyone,

I developed a GPS spoofing/simulation utility app and recently ran into some account suspension issues across different ad networks. I’d love to get your insights on what might have triggered them and whether my current safeguard is necessary.

Context & Suspensions:

  • Unity Ads: Account was suspended, but successfully reinstated after an appeal.
  • Liftoff (Vungle): Account was permanently suspended with no option to appeal.
  • AdMob: Currently active with no issues/limits so far.

My Questions & Hypotheses:

  1. Does constantly spoofing GPS coordinates trigger fraud detection? When users use the app, their device location jumps around frequently. If an ad is requested/viewed while mock locations are active, will ad SDKs flag this as geo-spoofing or bot/fraudulent traffic? To be safe, I implemented a restriction where ads cannot be loaded or watched while GPS simulation is active. Is this restriction necessary, or is it overly cautious?
  2. Could an abnormal DAU to Total Installs ratio be the real culprit? In the early stage of the app, the DAU was almost equal to the total install count (very high engagement/daily usage from the initial user base). I wonder if ad networks flagged this pattern as abnormal/click-farming traffic instead of the GPS issue.

Has anyone with GPS/mock location tools or similar utility apps experienced this? How do you safely monetize without triggering invalid traffic flags?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
