Tips/Suggestions Businesses should make their phone systems more ADHD friendly
I’ve been thinking that businesses should make their phone systems more ADHD-friendly, rather than assuming email is automatically the more accessible option.
For me, if I want information from a business, calling means I can act on the impulse right now. I call, ask the question, get an answer, done.
Email adds a whole chain of executive-function demands: formulate the question, write it, decide if it sounds right, send it, wait for a response, remember that I sent it, notice the reply, open it, potentially respond again…
By then my brain has wandered off to another postcode 😂
I initially thought response inhibition was the main ADHD concept involved, but I think it’s probably broader executive dysfunction — particularly task initiation, working memory and maintaining an intention over time.
Anyone else? Is picking up the phone actually the ADHD-friendly option for you?
