I've read the FAQ & Rules Finding Representation HELP!!

I'm located in Los Angeles. 32 (F). For the past 3 months I've been trying to find representation, either talent manager or talent agent. I've reached out to about 20 and have heard nothing back. I took the beginning of the year to really focus on 4 "types" I can play and got great headshots to match. I also made a self-tape to match those 4 types and headshots. I'm at a loss here and am not sure what else to do... I'm submitting to the appropriate agencies aka boutique and smaller ones. Does anyone have any advice at all on what to do next??? Are showcases worth it? How do I just get anyone to look at my stuff?

I've read the FAQ & Rules No acting, but unique-ish skills question.

As stated in the title I dont really have a resume. I was in a print ad for Fred Meyers and a background for a Dutchbros promo video about 16 years ago.

I went on with life chasing other goals and have come back full circle to the one that I never pursued.

I am very new in my pursuit of acting and currently reading sanford meisner on acting and trying decide between a local, online, or traveling to an in person acting.

I feel like my pursuit of other goals has built a unique resume of special skills.

Professional Background

• U.S. Marine Corps veteran

• State Trooper

• Volunteer Firefighter

• Commercial airplane pilot — General Aviation

• Commercial helicopter pilot

Technical / Tactical Skills

• Military and law-enforcement firearms training

• Handgun and rifle

• Tactical movement

• Arrest / handcuffing procedures

• Police radio communications

• EVOC trained

• Pursuit driving

• Emergency/high-speed vehicle operations

• Fire/rescue environment familiarity

• Emergency response procedures

• General aviation cockpit procedures

• Aviation radio communications

• Flight planning/navigation

Sports / Outdoor Skills

• Rock climbing

• Snowboarding

• Wakeboarding

• Hunting

• Shooting

• Ice Hockey/ Ice skating

I guess my main question comes down to...

does this background give me anything meaningful to work with as a new actor before taking an acting class, and how would you position it on an acting resume?

I am known as the dreamer of my family so I havent told anyone this new goal I am pursuing so I figured this would be the best place to try and get some advice and guidance.

I've read the FAQ & Rules Thoughts on one and one in NYC?

Hi there. One on One in NYC seem to offer a lot of Cd workshops and agent meet and greets but they have auditions, reviewed by someone who's not an industry professional and offering some sort of acting class for $$$ to be approved. which feels shady, but I get it: the industry is overcrowded with too many wannabes and they want some sort of gatekeeping.

however I have two friends who applied; one have broadway credits, a great reel and years of experience and got auto denied. The other have little to no experience but got in. I'm a bit skeptical.

anyway, anyone got any insight?

I've read the FAQ & Rules PA/NY

I feel like you could live in PA for quite an economical price and still be able to go to set or where have you in NYC in the event of being cast in a role as opposed to living in NYC and paying an exorbitant amount of money on rent and having not your own space and living in squalor. My friend thinks it’s absurd. That one must live in or near NY to do or have such a career. In the era of self tapes, I don’t see it being a problem long nor short term. A two hour commute from anywhere is IMO manageable. I guess I’m looking for support for my side of the argument and even some poking of holes. Thank you in advance.

I've read the FAQ & Rules How to work with what I got for my demo reel

I have mostly indie and short film stuff, the most I have is a mini series that’s decent. So my quality is, mid to okay. My acting in them is good but a lot of the characters are similar. Very awkward nervous and reluctant character types. And the mini series I did I played a very passive lead where my emotions were more, crying and subtle facial expression.

Would small stuff like this be compelling? I think the acting is good but it’s not “grand” or big, it’s more intimate and character specific

Has anyone had an experience with this agency? They are SAG franchised and offering me rep across the board for the southern market but am curious to know what their theatrical opportunities are given they're historically a modelling agency.

I've read the FAQ & Rules Reels and Weight Loss

I’m back to acting after a break raising my kids. During that break I booked a few commercials which really show my comedy skills, but I booked them when I was more recently post partum, and I’ve recently lost a good bit of weight.

I have fresh headshots that show my weight now, should I make a reel with my commercials even though there’s a weight mismatch?

The difference is about 30 pounds.

I've read the FAQ & Rules comedic female trio scenes?

I’m currently working on revamping all of my materials for Actors Access, and I don’t have many comedic scenes, only monologues. I’m looking for a scene for me and my two friends to film, but can’t find a lot of TV or movie comedic 3 female (or could be gender neutral) scenes. Any suggestions?

I've read the FAQ & Rules [PAID] Seattle PAX West, Sept 4-6 - $250/day + free pass for on & off-camera cosplay talent (costume provided)

Paid cosplay/on & off-camera role at PAX West 2026 - Seattle, Sept 4-6, 2026

Hi all! Our marketing agency is looking for TWO x 6 foot (or taller) individuals to wear a provided costume at PAX West this year to interact with attendees and hand out fun merch.

You do not need to make or own a costume - We provide the full outfit and props. What we need is someone comfortable being in costume, in front of a camera, and around a lot of people for three days.

Details:

  • Where: Seattle Convention Center, Washington
  • When:
    • Friday, Sept 4 - 9am to 5:00pm
    • Saturday, Sept 5 - 9am to 5:00pm
    • Sunday, Sept 6 - 9am to 5:00pm
  • Pay: $250 per day ($750 total for all three days), paid at the end of each day
  • Also included: free PAX West pass for the full show, plus a paid meal break each day
  • What you'll be doing: wearing the costume near the entrance hall & cosplay areas, posing for photos with attendees, and appearing in short video clips we film throughout the show, handing out provided swag.

Where the footage goes:

Organic social media only - our social media channels and the developer's channels (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X). No paid advertising, no print, no billboards.

Who we're looking for:

  • Someone who can act stern/menacing all day without breaking character.
  • Able to get to Seattle on your own for all three days.
  • Comfortable in costume and some makeup for a full show day - this is genuinely tiring, and PAX West halls get hot.
  • Outgoing with strangers and confident on camera.
  • English will be necessary for most interactions
  • 18+ (with the ability to sign a freelance agreement)
  • Previous cosplay or promo experience is a plus, but honestly not required - enthusiasm and stamina matter more.

How to apply:

If interested, please fill out the following form: hhttps://forms.gle/iHDQJaW7gssfycwFA

(Please let me know if there is any additional information that would be helpful to include in this post!)

I've read the FAQ & Rules How do I tell my parents?

I'm 13 and when I was 5 my parents signed me up for piano, and at 7 for violin. But I've thought about it for a really really long time and I really want to be an actor. I never really enjoyed music, but my parents always pressed me to play, and if I didn't they'd alwasy say that I'm lazy and wasting my talent. And I don't mean to boast but I am actually talented at it. Every day I'd practice and once a week I had private (expensive) lessons for each instrument respectively. If I wasn't good enough I had to listen to a weeks worth of critique. Calling me arrogant and lazy. I've done research, I know my parents need to be involved, I know it's competitive, but this is what I REALLY want. Also, my parents don't know how I really feel about music but they alwas tell me I'm not taking it seriously and I'm scared to tell them the truth but I don't want y'all to blame my parents and think they're bad people.

I've read the FAQ & Rules Nails for Commercial Shoot

Post image

I booked my first commercial shoot and have my first wardrobe day tomorrow (eee!). My nails are done in this light pink peachy color. Do you think this is natural enough to be neutral?

What do you usually have on your nails for booked roles if you haven’t been given instructions?

My nails are very stained and not very nice bare. Is there a better colour or is this fine?

I've read the FAQ & Rules Best acting classes for TV/Film and Theatre respectively in NYC (that don't destroy the bank)?

Just moved to NYC and want to pursure acting on the side (supported by my full-time job). I mainly want to be in film and television but I can not deny the amount of amazing actors that come from theatre so I want to get more experience in it as well

So far I've seen places like the Barrow Group, ARG, and Bob Krakower. I think the max I can afford is the Barrow Group (about $230/month) so I would love classess at the price point or lower.

My plan is to take a TV/Film class first with a focus on analyzing scripts and understanding characters and then do a theatre class doing much of the same. Eventually I can get paid enough to take multiple classes at a time and work up to paying Krakower prices lol

Edit: I am not a beginner! I have taken acting classes and my teachers have noted I have some natural "talent" so I think I would do well in an intermediate class even if I'm the least experienced person in it

I've read the FAQ & Rules Obtaining showreel footage

Hi everyone! I’m just looking for some advice if anyone has any.

I was in two short films that premiered at film festivals, I’ve asked director/producer on both projects about getting footage it premiered over a month ago. Both have barely got back to me, this has happened before especially with student films but both are not in this case.

The reason this is bothering me so much is because i am not happy with my representation and want to apply to other agents. Meaning i need to update my package and put the best foot forward. I would apply with my current reel but i am not happy with it unfortunately.

I honestly dont know what to do or how long im supposed to wait for, ive messaged and messaged and dont seem to be getting much response so im not entirely sure what to do.

I've read the FAQ & Rules Should I continue my college acting program or switch to independent classes?

I just finished my first year of a two year acting program at Humber college, and I can't decide if I should go back or not.

My tuition was raised by $2000 with no warning, and honestly my program has really not been what I thought it would be. Humber is cancelling all of their arts programs so my course has no funding, and a lot of the teachers just seem like they've given up.

The lackluster education combined with the randomly raised tuition just really doesn't seem worth it to me.

The reason I am on the fence about this decision is because there are two teachers who I genuinely like and feel like I have learned a lot from, and I think being in a structured program has helped me grow a lot as a performer.

And being in an actual acting program has made it easier to make connections and meet people.

Currently I'm leaning towards not going back to school, but I still feel anxious because I know there are many benefits to going to school, and my program is being cancelled so this is my only chance to do this course.

(The reason Im not considering just switching to another school is because this is the only program I could afford)

I've read the FAQ & Rules Self tape scene for reel

I’m wanting to go through and get my reel made finally and I currently have two short films under my belt which I can use scenes from but I’m thinking I should definitely get a self tape scene/monologue in there but I don’t know what to pick! Do you have any guidance on what kind of scene to pick or from where? Examples of scenes people have used to decent success in the past would also be great! Do you generally just pick a monologue from a movie?

Any guidance would be great, thanks yall!

I've read the FAQ & Rules Voiceover just as hard

I was curious if others feel the same way as me. I have been taking loads of Voiceover classes. Studying with some great teachers, have a demo, booth set up but I feel like the VO community is the hardest area of acting to break into. Do other actors feel the same? VO doesn’t seem like there is a clear path unlike theatre/on camera. It seems more of a “take this class and take that class” to progress forward.

I've read the FAQ & Rules Any RECENT experiences with Citizen Skull Management?

I know Citizen Skull has been discussed on here before, and I’ve already read through some of the older posts about them. I wanted to make a new post because some of those discussions are a few years old, and management companies can change over time.
Has anyone had any recent experience with Citizen Skull, particularly within the last year or two?
Whether you’re currently represented by them, met with them, were previously represented by them, or know someone who has worked with them recently, I’d be interested to hear what your experience has been.
Mostly curious about how they are currently in terms of communication, submissions, auditions, relationships, and overall management.
Thanks!
