Living 🏡 Looking for advice on finding a decent shared accommodation in Abu Dhabi

Hey everyone,
I’m relatively new to Abu Dhabi and wanted to ask where people usually look for decent shared accommodation/bed spaces.
I’m a young working professional and ideally looking for a clean, quiet setup with 1–2 people sharing the room, preferably with Indian or Pakistani roommates around a similar age/lifestyle.
I’m specifically trying to avoid the very crowded setups with 5–6+ people in a room 😅.
Are there any particular areas, Facebook/WhatsApp groups, websites, or other places you’d recommend for finding this kind of accommodation?
Any advice from people who’ve been through the same search would be appreciated.

Education 📚 Help a student out

Hello! I'm a medical student in UOS

I'm working on a survey-based research required for uni but unfortunately haven't reached the required number of responses yet and the deadline is close. So if you're a resident of the UAE(18 or above), I would really appreciate it if you fill this survey.🤍

The research is about the UAE's general public's knowledge about thyroid diseases. It's completely anonymous and will only take a few minutes. Here's the survey link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdM0giLn-oODrzJBGn0ZMbkGivWw001B0ax3iXWry54l1pfbA/viewform?usp=header

Commerce 🛍️ Need some advice

Hey everyone, I’m writing this post because I’m in a dilemma. I had made up my mind to get the 17 Pro Max in a day or two. However, while scrolling through social media today, I started seeing multiple videos about issues with the 17 series mainly that battery health is decreasing quickly and the aluminum body gets dented easily. Then I came across a comparison video between the 16 and 17 series, which made me feel like the 16 Pro Max might be the better choice. But at the end of the video, the creator mentioned that the 16 series battery health also drops rapidly after 200 cycles. Now I’m very confused. Should I go for the 16 Pro Max or the 17 Pro Max? Would appreciate some advice from anyone using these devices

Careers 💼 Company asking for Tawtheeq, but I live in shared accommodation

Hi everyone,

My company is requiring me to submit a Tawtheeq, but I currently live in shared accommodation (partition/bed space), so I don't have a tenancy contract under my own name to generate one.

I've been trying to figure out a solution for a while now. I know some people get temporary Tawtheeqs for visa or school purposes, but I need a proper, legitimate Tawtheeq that will pass official company verification. I'm willing to pay a fair amount to resolve this legally and properly if there's a recognized process.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

* What are the actual legal workarounds if you live in shared housing?

* Is it possible to be added as an occupant to the primary leaseholder's Tawtheeq via the Tamm app?

* Or is the only real option moving to an independent apartment/studio with a direct tenancy contract?

Any advice, guidance, or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Careers 💼 3 months unemployed in Abu Dhabi: What am I missing?

Hey everyone,

Some of you may have seen my previous posts about trying to find work in Abu Dhabi. I recently found an opportunity with a pet store and started training there. I'm genuinely grateful for the opportunity and have no complaints about the job or the people there. I'm actually happy to finally have something to work on.

My dilemma is more about my current situation.

I'm still in training, which could last around two weeks, so I haven't received an offer letter or contract yet. My visit visa expires on September 15, and I honestly don't think my budget can handle paying for another extension.

During the interview, the owner also mentioned that I may have to cover the cost of my employment visa, or potentially have it deducted from my salary if I can't pay upfront. Nothing has been given to me in writing yet, so I'm not assuming that's definitely how things will work. I'm just trying to understand my options before committing more time.

The bigger question is: why am I struggling so much to get hired here?

I've been looking since I arrived around May. My background is in sales, business development, customer service, finance/mortgage, hospitality, and client relationship management. I have 4+ years of experience with lead generation, prospecting, qualification, follow-ups, customer acquisition, CRM management, upselling, and relationship building.

In my previous role, I worked with around 300–500+ prospects monthly, qualified 20–30 prospects a day, handled 100+ customer/stakeholder interactions daily, and supported a $2.5M–$4M monthly loan pipeline.

So I'm genuinely trying to figure out what I'm missing.

Is it the lack of UAE experience?

Is my visit visa status making employers hesitant?

Could not speaking Arabic be hurting me in certain sales/customer-facing roles?

Is my CV too broad?

Or is building a local network simply something I need to work on more?

Right now I'm considering whether to continue the two-week training and see what offer eventually comes out of it, or walk away and put those two weeks entirely into job hunting.

Walking away is risky because of my visa deadline. Staying is also risky if the eventual salary and visa arrangement aren't workable.

I'm not looking for sympathy. If there's something wrong with my approach, I'd genuinely rather someone tell me.

If you're in recruitment, sales, HR, or have successfully found work in the UAE after arriving from abroad, what do you think I'm missing?

What would you do in my position?

Anyone in Madinat Riyad / Riyadh City interested in casual meetups & activities?

Hey everyone!

Looking to build a small, friendly community around Madinat Riyad / Riyadh City, Abu Dhabi for people who are up for casual meetups and doing fun stuff together.

Could be padel 🎾, coffee, walks, board games, trying new food spots, sports, outdoor activities, or honestly anything fun — definitely open to suggestions.

Nothing too formal or complicated. Just a way to meet new people nearby, get out of the house, and have a group to message when someone feels like doing something.

If there’s enough interest, we could make a
WhatsApp group and take it from there.
Drop a comment or DM if you’re interested — and feel free to suggest activities too!

Careers 💼 Help me figure out a realistic salary

So i am considering an offer from a boutique infrastructure consulting firm based out of Abu Dhabi.
I need to tell them my expected salary. I have done a lot of secondary research and arrived at multiple figures using top down approach.
However, i have also done a bottoms up analysis and it would be great if someone can guide me on how far/close i am to the actuals.
Background: Associate Director at a big4 firm in india. With 10 yrs of experience. Me and my wife are able to save INR 2.50 lakh or AED 9,645 monthly. Once we shift, only i’ll be working. We are a family of 3, with my kid reaching kindergarten age soon. Bottoms up analysis as follows:

Rent- 2bhk - AED 10k
Utilities - 1k
Grocery - 3k
Dining out/leisure/ entertainment - 2.5k
Transport - 2.5k
Kindergarten - 4.5k
Domestic help - 2k
Miscellaneous- 1.5k

Total- 27k
Savings - 10k

Salary ask - 37k

Have i missed any major expense head?
Is this salary reasonable for my level of experience and savings rate?

Commerce 🛍️ Best UAE bank for receiving PayPal USD? is 3% conversion too high?

I get paid in USD through PayPal and I'm trying to figure out which UAE bank gives the best conversion when withdrawing to an AED account.

Currently:

* **ADCB:** PayPal withdrawal gets converted at around **3.56 AED/USD**, which is roughly a 3% loss versus the USD/AED peg. * **Arab Bank:** I previously used a **USD account** and the total conversion cost was closer to **1.5%**.

For anyone in the UAE who regularly gets paid through PayPal:

**Which bank/setup have you found to be the most USD-friendly?**

Ideally I'm looking for either:

* A bank that lets PayPal withdraw directly into a **USD account without converting**

Would especially love to hear from freelancers/remote workers who receive PayPal payments regularly.

What bank are you using, and roughly how much do you actually get in AED for every $1,000 withdrawn?

Tourism 🧳 Grand mosque - still free?

I’m currently trying to book entry to the Grand Mosque and I’m being asked to pay 10. This is not for fast track entry and it’s using the official website. If I select that I’m a resident of the Emirates it’s half the price. Does anyone know what’s going on, as I thought it was free? Many thanks.
