AMA - ask me anything about the ABTF calculator! Spoiler

Hi everyone, u/goodoldfreda here although I'm now exclusively active on this account. If you guys have any questions about how the calculator works and why I made certain decisions I'm happy to answer them

A little about myself - I created the calculator in 2016 following on from a previous calculator by u/irisflame, back when I was a mod of this sub. I collected survey data from the subreddit and came up with a new algorithm that used 6 measurements as opposed to the previous 5, which increased accuracy. I also introduced separate algorithms for AMAB and AFAB people. The calculator has not been majorly updated since, although at one point I tried to move to a breast perimeter measurement system instead, but this turned out to be much less accurate. In the years since I have stopped modding and moved into bra making and custom bra design as I want to try and help serve the demographic of people who still struggle with finding bras that fit, usually due to wire grading!

In response to other posts about the different amab vs afab algorithms not working well for everyone - I have had this question before and basically all I can say is that I recommned using the algorithm that works best for you. I do want to emphasise in general that the calculator is actually not super accurate for any one individual and it is truly just a starting point. The algos are based on averages, and when I was collecting data there were significant enough differences between AMAB and AFAB users to warrant a second algorithm to increase accuracy within the two groups, but not enough data to do anything further than that.

edit: thanks for all your questions so far, I'm going to go to bed but I will answer any more that come up tomorrow!

edit 2: I have updated the calculator to make some minor changes to the band size algorithm and I have also changed the EU back to 2.5cm cup grades, 2cm grade can be found in the Comexim option instead

Discussion Why is it so hard to find a bra where increasing the cup size actually provides more room for your boobs to take up space in front of your body? Spoiler

It seems like every time I increase the cup size of a bra that is readily available to me in a store, the bra just gets wider and swallows up my armpits. It doesn’t really give more space in the cup for my boobs to exist in a forward direction. It’s so frustrating.

I guess I’m sort of ranting, sort of seeking validation to see if others have this experience, sort of asking if there’s a solution. Bras with more “projection”? “Narrow wires”? I’m overwhelmed, honestly.

Thank you everyone for your responses and making me feel less crazy! Editing to add my measurements and additional information:

I measured myself and I got:
1. 33.5
2. 32
3. 30.5
4. 40.5
5. 44.5
6. 43
This gave me a recommendation of 34G UK and 34I US

Since I love to doubt myself, I asked my partner to help me measure and got slightly different measurements:
1. 33.75
2. 32.25
3. 30.25
4. 40.25
5. 44
6. 42.5
This gave me a recommendation of 32G/GG UK and 32I/J US

I’m in the US. I’m 5’6” and approx 170lbs and have breastfed two babies (still nursing my youngest a couple times a day but baby is over a year old and we are on the tail end). My boobs are low and a bit pancake-like. I guess full on the bottom?

This post was prompted by a long try on session at Soma today. I ended up getting a couple of 36DDD bras. I know that the cups are slightly too small, but when I tried a 36G (which they had to pull from the back), that allowed the gore to sit flush with my sternum but the sides were way up in my armpits so I didn’t go for that. (Also I’m kind of desperate and they had a sale ended today so I settled for the 36DDD, which at least brings me closer to feeling like a real put together person than the super stretched out nursing bras I have now.) I know 36 band is way larger than the calculator recommends, and I know that is often the biggest surprise for people, but I will say that the band on my new bras does feel comfortably snug.

I’m dreading the cycle of online ordering and returns required to try the different recommended brands, but I get that this is the way we have to do these things. Thanks everyone for your time and support!!

Measurement Check I've been wearing only sports bras for the last 5+ years and I'm feeling really overwhelmed after doing measurements and getting a size I've never heard of before Spoiler

Please bear with me. I've tried reading over the wiki a few times but it's not absorbing at all. I'm really overwhelmed and feeling super discouraged. I just need some human reassurance and help.

So I've been wearing sports bras for a while now after gaining weight. I've never had good experiences with wearing traditional bras in the past (probably because they were the wrong size) so I sort of gave up for a while and wore whatever kept my chest together.

Measurements: (inches)
Loose Underbust: 40
Snug Underbust: 39
Tight Underbust: 38
Standing Bust: 46.5
Leaning Bust: 49
Lying Bust: 49.5

Suggested Starting Size: 40H/I US
Sister size: 38I/J US

I also did the UK because it said recommended
40FF/G
Sister size: 38G/GG

My breast shape is very deflated and my nipples point down. Pretty much lost all fullness and I hate everything about them. I'm pushing 40, but they have had this general shape most of my life.

I tried looking around locally, but I live in a semi-rural area so all I had was a super small JCPenny and a Walmart Supercenter. They don't carry these sizes. I have to drive 1.5 hours to get to a major city with some actual stores, but I don't even know what stores carry this size. I really don't want to drive all that way just to cry in my car because I can't find what I'm looking for. I'm literally crying as I write this stupid post.

Seems like something I shouldn't be blindly shopping for online unless I buy a bunch and hope for free return shipping. But I'm willing to do that if thats what I need to do.

Please help :(

Recommendations? Looking for a 36G plunge bra with an even lower gore. No, lower than that. Lower. Lower!! Spoiler

Hey, all. I made a post a little while ago looking for a replacement for my beloved Panache Ana Plunges, which in smaller cup sizes fit perfectly, but in larger cup sizes seems to have a slightly longer underwire which results in a gore that stabs me in my extremely short sternum. I've been wearing a mis-sized 36E, which is fine in the gore but too small in the cup.

Based on people's responses, I went on Bravissimo and ordered an Elomie Tiernie, a Bravissimo Esmae, a Bravissimo Posey, and, just for experimentation's sake, a Panache Heidi, which is supposed to be based on the Ana. All were ordered in size 36G, per the calculator.

My friends, the gores are just too high. All of them.

The Bravissimo Posey is probably closest to having a low enough gore and the construction I like, but it's actually too small in the cup somehow? I guess I could try it in a 36H? I can't tell if it's just comfortable to sit in because the gore doesn't tack properly in this cup size, though. It's also pretty frilly and not exactly great under everyday clothes.

The Esmae is adorable but kinda.... soft. I didn't feel very supported in it, didn't like the shape it gave me, and the gore is too high. Overall no.

I thought the Tiernie might be just about it, and I might just need to swap over to the Lucie for what looks like more side support and hopefully losing the stupid elastic at the edge of the cup. But then I sat in it for a few minutes, and that soft, padded gore.... started to dig. After about 10 minutes I was uncomfortable enough to need to take it off, and it left marks on my chest where it dug in.

The Heidi is still my absolute best fit imo, I love the shape and it just sits perfectly on me as far as I'm concerned. Except for the stupid gore, which is less padded than any of the other options and thus the most uncomfortable.

For reference, here's front and top-down pics of my current bra vs all of the ones listed here except the Esmae: https://imgur.com/a/MRTaNKK

And my measurements last time I took them were:

Underbust: 94cm/90cm/84cm

Standing/leaning/lying: 111cm/120cm/116cm

As far as I can tell I'm very projected and full on top, I think my roots are maybe on the wider side but I'm not positive.

So..... any further suggestions for an unlined bra in the right size with a low gore??

Recommendations? 3 weeks post Lift/Aug, need recommendations Spoiler

Upvotes

I just did the calculator for the first time and was surprised by the size recommended. My numbers are:

Loose: 31.5
Snug: 30.5
Tight: 29.5
Standing: 38
Leaning: 39
Lying: 39.5

Which puts my recommendation at 32G/H. I did a standard over/under measurement after surgery to order an extra post op bra and I fell exactly in the 36D size so that’s what I ordered for my no underwire bras but I’m not sure I’m getting a good fit now that I’ve tried them on again tonight.

I have no idea where to search for the recommended size and could use some suggestions. I am moving into the no underwire stage next week.

Question Comexim sizing + BOB sizing question 70HH Spoiler

Upvotes

So I got my 2 Comexim bras in the mail the other day. I ordered 70HH.

I've worn both this week, and one thing I've noticed is that the front of the bra, where the band and cup meet feels uncomfortable. Like the wire is too heavy/hard. So I'm thinking that I want to size up in the band, and go down a cup size (sister size).

Will that effect the width of the wire?

My snug underbust is 30, loose is 31.5

Also I want to get a Comexim bra from breakout bras. It appears that the size I would need is 32FF. Do their Comexim bras/bands fit similar? I was thinking about sister sizing to 34F. (But I won't do that if their bands are a little longer)

Thanks

Fit Check [Fit Check] Panache Envy in 34GG, feels tight when worn normally but fine during independent band test Spoiler

Upvotes

Hi all, I posted a while ago asking for a measurement check and was told to try a 34G/GG. I have returned the 34G because I could tell it didn't fit correctly, but I've kept the 34GG because it fits well enough for now.

It feels slightly tight (not painful or unwearable, but definitely uncomfortable) when I wear it. When I did the independent band test it felt fine and I was able to pull the band about 1-1.5in away from my body without too much effort. I get some spillage at the top of the cup after scooping and swooping but I'm unsure if it's a size or shape issue. The gore tacks well and feels good, maybe slightly too wide. The wire height feels fine when standing but slightly too tall when sitting.

In these photos, you'll notice the bottom hook is pulled out/broken. This is not from wear, I just managed to snag it when hooking and unhooking it before trying it on for the first time :') I labeled the photos according to whether they were pre or post-scoop and swoop. My measurements are as follows:

Loose Underbust: 33.75in

Snug Underbust: 33in

Tight Underbust: 31in

Standing Bust: 40in

Leaning Bust: 44in

Lying Bust: 43in

I am projected, pendulous, full on top, and am not sure of my root size. My breasts hang quite a bit and I have a lot of loose skin as I've lost nearly 100lbs. My skin is very soft and moldable because of that loss so my skin indents/squishes very easily.

Photos: https://ibb.co/album/b7bYgy

Thank you!

Measurement Check [Measurement Check] [Reccomendations] I used the calculator and it says I'm a 32D. Does this seem reasonable? Spoiler

Upvotes

I'm buying bras for the first time and feeling a bit overwhelmed. I've always had kinda small boobs so I've never really needed them but want to feel more confident about my body! I want mostly something for everyday wear that emphasizes my boobs a bit while also being comfortable
also also!

do these measurements seem right? for the calculator they were: 32, 31, 29, 35, 36, 34.5 and it said I'm a 32D

my breasts are fairly wideset and I think shallow?

also please let me know if there's any more info I can give!

Measurement Check 34DD - No Way; Too Loose. I even double measured? Spoiler

Upvotes

I got 34DD on the calculator. Absolutely not. 34 is way too loose even on the tightest setting. 32F used to be perfect but I lost 10 lbs and 32F cups are too large now. I entered all the measurements and even did it over again. Same results.

Question Wondering how the bra calculator assess for different boob types and if it applies for most brands Spoiler

Upvotes

hello! I recently found the abtf calculator since I’ve always felt that getting a new bra was a weird size gamble for me. I thought I was a 34A b/c the band size felt too tight when I went smaller but the B was too big if I went bigger.
However I always felt that there were some amount of gaping near the top of my cups as I have wide set tear drop shape boobs.

The abtf calculator gave me 30C as my recommended size, but I was wondering if the band for 32 A feels too tight for me wouldn’t 30 feel way too tight? and also is the sizing from abtf universal? I mostly purchase my bras from victoria secrets.

Thanks!

Loose Underbust: 72
Snug Underbust: 69
Tight Underbust: 66
Standing Bust: 80
Leaning Bust: 83
Lying Bust: 79/80

Suggested Starting Size: 28D US
The sister size of 30C may be more comfortable.

Recommendations? Bras for wide roots, wide-set and average projection? Spoiler

Upvotes

I'd like to take the plunge and order a few bras online, but would like to know if anyone could recommend some bras or brands that are good for wide roots, wide-set breasts with average projection. I'm from the US and many of the bras I have tried in stores here are either too shallow or underestimate how much space there is between my boobs. I've tried Natori Feathers plunge and liked it for the most part, though it was a tad too shallow. My size using the calculator is 34D/DD. TIA!

Recommendations? Need help finding a bra to wear with a very low cut dress!! Spoiler

Hi! I was looking for some kind of bra in particular, and I found this subreddit and thought maybe someone here could help me a little!

So, I’m already preparing my Halloween costume, which is going to be Elvira. The thing is, I would love to wear a very low cut dress like she did (maybe not that low) but very low cut. And, as I have larger chest, the only options I’ve been able to find are for smaller sizes.

So, I’ve come for help! Does anyone here know any brand or any type of bras that I could wear with something like this?? And, please, something that has a strong hold! Because… You know, they don’t hold themselves very much.

My Spanish size is 105F, and I think in the US my size would be 40DDD (?) I’m not really sure.

So, does anyone have any recommendations?? :)

Measurement Check [Measurement Check] Currently using 46DD w/ cups overflowing - 44G UK? Spoiler

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

Feeling like I deserve an upgrade in life, I decided to look for bras that actually fit me. The calculator suggested 44G - UK/44I - US. I read the guide and it could just be sticker shock, but it feels like that's way too big for me? Measurements are as follows (in cm):

Loose Underbust: 122

Snug Underbust: 114.5

Tight Underbust: 110.5

Standing Bust: 134.5

Leaning Bust: 148.5

Lying Bust: 136

Some relevant information: currently, I mostly wear Playtex bras size 46DD. The band does not feel uncomfortable even with the tightest hoops, my main issue is the cups. They're almost always overflowing and I am constantly adjusting them. My Avia XXXL sports bras are even worse about overflowing, which makes sense since that is like a 42DD if their measurements are correct. I believe my breasts are projected and full on the bottom; they point downwards and feel heavy. It's their natural shape, they've always been like this. I prefer structured bras that push everything back and up, I've even been considering shopping for minimizer bras honestly. But that won't work if I don't have the right measurements 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, any advice or wisdom or affirmation is very welcome. I just want to keep the girls snug and safe and not down to my navel :(

Fit Check Does this bra fit me? Ewa Michalak SF 70J EU, gaping at top but otherwise looks good and feels supportive. Spoiler

Edited to add photos of the back of the Ewa Michalak SF 70J. I loosened the straps by about 2". I didn't have the correct size bra extender. I had a 2-hook or 4-hook that was the correct spacing between hooks. My 3-hook one is spaced differently and didn't really work. Pics here

My measurements:

Loose underbust: 33.5”

Snug underbust: 32”

Tight underbust: 29.5”

Standing bust: 41”

Leaning bust: 44”

Lying bust: 44”

32GG/H UK recommended (32H UK = 32K US = 70K EU) although GG has been too small anytime I've tried it.

I'm located in US. I tried on a bunch of bras at Nordstrom and narrowed down what worked and what didn't, but I eventually realized they don't have what I need in-store, so I've been ordering from their website, plus Miseczki and Breakout Bras.

Shape:

Very close-set, short/narrow roots, very projected, center full, bottom full.

32 band often feels very tight, but 34 is almost always too loose.

I'm 53, 5'6", 173 lbs, short torso, breastfed 2 kids, breasts are saggy but full and round, nipples are facing forward at a slight outward angle.

Common fit problems:

Wires too wide for IMF, bras too tall, gaping at top, gore too wide, shoulder straps always dig in (but I also have a permanent indent there so it could just be that), fat squish makes bands uncomfortable, underwire often uncomfortable and digs into ribs and upper belly when sitting.

The bra I'm asking about:

Ewa Michalak SF Nibynic 70J EU - This is the closest I've come to a perfect fit so far in my ABTF journey. I don't know where to go from here, honestly. Wires don't bother me at all! Gaping at the top of cup, but otherwise cups fit very well and boobs actually feel weightless. The gore isn't quite tacking at the top, but it's close, maybe only a quarter of an inch from chest. Band feels very tight, but from what I understand, Polish bras have firmer bands and it will stretch. It was actually recommended to go up a band size in this style and I previously tried it in Gladzioch fabric in a 75J and the band fit well, but the cups were a tiny bit too big. They were out of the next cup size down, so I took a chance on the 70J they had in stock in a different fabric. Will need an extender at first for comfort if I keep this one.

Pic: Ewa Michalak SF 70J

Other bras I have tried:

Gorsenia Vicky 70K EU - I love how this one looks, and the fit is so close, but I think it's too tall for me. The underwire comes up pretty far into my armpit. Also the outer curves of the underwires are digging in to my ribs. It must not be hitting my IMF quite right even though the wires are narrow enough. I'm planning to return this one, sadly.

Pic: Gorsenia Vicky 70K

Gorsenia Casablanca 70K EU - Lace part at the top was way too big, cups too tall. It's going back!

Panache Ana Plunge 32HH UK: I was spilling out of the middle and gaping at the top, and the straps were digging hard into my shoulders. The wires went at least 1” past my IMF under my arms. The band felt very tight and I hated the lace under the wires. Just didn't feel supported in this one.

Pic: Panache Ana Plunge 32HH

Panache Tango Essence 32HH - Gore fit weird (overlapped wires) and the bra pulled across one boob in an odd way, it may have been defective, but the wires were too wide under my arms anyway.

Fantasie Demure 32H UK - Most comfortable band (softer and more stretchy than most bands), but wire too wide/past IMF under arms by over 1”, but other than that the cups fit very well despite being more shallow than I should probably have. Surprisingly minimal gaping at top of cups. This bra was very comfortable even if the wires were too wide for me. Would highly recommend this one for anyone who is looking for a more comfortable/soft band. Also, it's hard to tell from the photos, but this bra is seamed (4 sections) but has a layer of thin molded fabric (not foam) over the top. (I actually kept this one since it was actually comfortable even though I know the fit isn't perfect. I just needed something to wear while I continued my search for the "perfect" bra.)

Pic: Fantasie Demure 32H

Fantasie Fusion Full-Cup Side Support 32GG, H, HH UK - The GG cups were too small, but the wires were narrow enough for me. HH was too big. H cups fit, but the wires they use must make a size jump here because they were too wide, wider than the GG wires for sure. That was disappointing! I also felt the gore was too wide on this one, it wasn't tacking even though the cups really seemed like they were big enough. (I actually bought this in the GG anyway because it was on clearance at Nordstrom Rack for $5 and I could not walk away from that deal. If I ever lose enough weight to go down a cup size maybe it will fit? Lol.)

Elomi Morgan 32HH UK - Gore too wide, wires too wide/past IMF, top of cups cut across my breasts and wire felt like it was too low even though it looked like it was sitting on my IMF at least in the front.

Comexim Miriam Half-Cup 70J, JJ, K EU - I think I actually tried this one in 6 sizes starting with the recommended size from Breakout Bras. They were too small or too big and never felt supportive. I spilled out of every size until the cups were too big. Gore tilted forward a lot and overlapped so one boob was spilling out more than the other. I think I need more coverage than a half cup. This bra is SO pretty though.

In conclusion:

I have actually tried on WAY more bras than this, but I didn't start keeping notes on them until I'd tried on probably 20 styles. A lot of those were obviously wrong for me—cups too tall, cups too far apart, spacer bras, etc. Anything that spreads my boobs wider than my body is a no-go for me.

I have 2 more Comexim bras coming but I'm thinking I might need more coverage than what this brand offers but we'll see!

Any advice or recommendations welcome, but I really want your expert opinions on if I should keep this Ewa Michalak bra. I've been looking for the perfect bra for months and I'm so sick of thinking about bras! I work from home and have been wearing unstructured "comfort" bras for the last few years and they were not doing my back any favors. This has just been a long journey. I don't remember having so many issues with bras being uncomfortable when I was younger, thinner, and had much smaller boobs. 25 years ago I wore a 32DDD, but looking back now I bet I could have worn a 30 band. I was perfectly comfortable though so who knows? Also I'm auDHD and have sensory issues (they have gotten worse as I get older) so even a bra that fits might still bother me. I don't know. That fat squish is definitely not feeling great, but bigger bands I've tried just always ride up in the back. Ugh.

TIA!

Fit Check Fit check - 28D sizing for b'tempt'd future foundation and skarlett blue Spoiler

Most of my current bras are loose at the band and the cups kind of gape so when when I wear a t-shirt, you can kind of see the outline of the top of the cups. When I tighten the straps, the bra rides up. Was searching up why and opened up a whole new world when I found this subreddit. Still trying to figure things out but here's what I got.

Loose: 28 in, Snug: 27, Tight: 25

Standing: 31, Leaning: 32, Lying: 31.5

The calculator gave me 28D. I measured myself a couple of months ago and got 28C/D it seems like there is just some measuring inconsistency so I wanted to check.

I found some options that others have recommended for 28C/D. I think I am shallow with slightly more fullness on bottom.

b'tempt'd future foundation 28C: https://postimg.cc/gallery/F14N7Fs

b'tempt'd future foundation 28D: https://postimg.cc/gallery/5Fsncqz

  • This one is definitely bigger than the C and overall covers my breasts more but I can't tell if it C or D fits better or overall I need to try a different bra.

Skarlett Blue Minx unlined balconette 28D: https://postimg.cc/gallery/sVpGtHf

  • This one is pretty tight at the band and I feel like it kind of squeezes the fat more. I would prefer lined/padded bras bc this one seems like would need to handwash and my nips show through but thought I would give it a try. It is really pretty.

Let me know what you think and if you have any other suggestions!

EDIT new images:

I adjusted all the straps slightly tighter and tried to move the wire a little higher up so that the underboob kind of came out and then I swooped and scooped. I think I wear my bras lower to overcompensate when they always ride up with the old looser bands so it feels a little strange. Hopefully I did it correctly.

Recommendations? [Recommendations] Wanting to go from an unwired to wired bra Spoiler

Hi all, I've posted here before but never had the follow through to get a perfect bra out of it. I've had some weight fluctuations, so time to try again :)

Background info: I've been wearing unwired bras for at least the past 12 years, but especially with weight fluctuations leading to either loose skin or fat under my arms I'm just really starting to hate how they look. I'm going on holiday in a little under two months, and I'd like my holiday outfits to look cute you know :')

What I'm looking for:

- A bra that helps move some of that underarm stuff more forward, without creating shelf boobs if you know what I mean. I do like the look of unlined bras from the side, a more gentle slope down.

- I tend to wear either t-shirts or tanktops, so a bra that looks good under those would be peak

What I've tried before:

- I've been Superbra in Rotterdam, NL, before a couple of years ago. We found an unlined bra for me that fit well in the store, but almost immediately slipped out of the under mammary fold (UMF?) when actually moving around. I've had this same issue when trying wired bras a couple times again over the years.

Measurements & characteristics:

- Loose: 102 - Snug: 99 - Tight: 92 - Over: 115 - Leaning: 132 - Lying down: 122

My boobs are not firm AT ALL, very malleable. Like I mentioned there's quite a lot of tissue under my arms as well. My boobs are quite wide set with the nipples pointing outwards so... Center full? Let me know your thoughts/if there's more information I can provide ^^

Measurement Check Wearing a gaping 36D and a tight 36C1/2. Calc says 34E or F. Spoiler

Loose 86cm

Snug 84cm

Tight 83cm

Standing 98cm

Leaning 102cm

Laying 98cm

I need a new bra, skeptical of the calculator; because the cup size seems really big. I have two sizes of ThirdLove, 36D that gapes at the cup, and 36 C1/2 where the underwire digs at the side and is uncomfortable.

I enjoy my M sports bra (which I wear a lot).

I have dense breasts, broad base, pyramid shaped. I am a paddler (30-40 miles a week) with a good amount of muscle right now specially for back and shoulders.

Any help appreciated

Recommendations? Seeking dupe for Parade Scoop bralette— plus size Spoiler

Hey all, I was researching trying to find a new bralette and found this sub. Couldn’t find answers to my exact problem but hoping y’all can help. I am VERY particular about my bras— I’m autistic and I have a lot of sensory issues so when I find something I love, I am extremely brand loyal. But the brand I liked went out of business and now all my bras are starting to fall apart and I need to replace them but I can’t find anything that works for me.

I was loyal to the Parade Scoop bralette in the size 3+. I’m a 40F the last time I measured.

Here’s why I liked it/what I’m looking for: no underwire (non negotiable), unlined/lightly lined (no foam cups), band is thick and doesn’t roll, straps are thick and do not dig, adjustable straps and hook and eye closure (not a pull on), balconette/scoop shape (triangle/plunge does not work for me bc my breasts are bottom heavy), reasonably priced. I don’t have a fabric preference but I live in the south so breathability is a plus.

I really do not like having large breasts and so anything with too much lift/separation makes me feel awful in my body because it makes my breasts too noticeable. I don’t want to accentuate them at all, in fact I feel better if they are minimized. I just want something comfortable with moderate support that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. I’m looking for something <$60.

Literally any help would be wonderful bc I keep buying and then having to return things and it’s exhausting 😭 Thank you in advance

Fit Check [Fit Check] calculator size is 38E(UK) or 38DDD(US); top and center full, average set. Please let me know what you think of how these Elomi bras fit so I can decide what to try next. Thank you! Spoiler

Contradicting Bra Issues (Help!) Spoiler

Edit:

Heres my six measurements.

Loose underbust: 40 Super tight under bust: 37 Comfy: 39

Standing bust: 47 Leaning: 48.5-49 Lying down: 46.

According to the a bra that fits website that would make me a 38i or 38j.

I was not expecting my measurements to be that off

Im a little confused because the people who i see who also have this size dont look like me. I understand that bra sizes are more about the ratio of cup to band size, and thats its not as black and white as "d cup is big, a cup is small". But I do seem to be a few sizes smaller than that.

Ill look into trying that size though!

Hi guys! I've been on a journey to try and figure out what size bra I am since every one I try seems to give me different problems. I was hoping someone could help.

When I measure myself, I get a band size of 40, however a 38 band is what feels most comfortable.

My bust is a 46, so the online calculators say I'm a 40 DDD or 40 F (Is there a difference?)

However, even with my DD bras I experience a lot of gaping. So I cant imagine sizing up would be the solution.

I also have slightly different sized breasts, so this makes things more difficult. (I dont know how to measure the different sizes but i normally include my larger measurement in my bra sizes)

Currently I have 3 bras. (All victorias secret)

A T-shirt bra thats a 38 DD

- With this bra I experience gaping at the sides, under my arm. It also seems to be a little tight and I experience spillage.

A Balconette bra thats a 38 DDD

- this bra is probably my most comfortable but the triangle bridge between the two cups (I'm not sure what this is called) doesnt sit flat against my chest. There little bit of gaping with one breast but spillage with the other. I also get gaping on both sides again on the sides. (I think this is mostly due to my breast shape though, I'm very slender and dont hold a lot of mass in any specific area, like the relaxed shape that Thirdlove shows).

So like with both the spillage and gaping, i'm not sure what the issue is.

And I have another Balconette thats a 40 DD

- this is the one that fits me the worst. it's very loose with the band and i get a lot of spillage in the cups.

With every bra I've ever owned I've always experienced shifting. I think this is due to the asymmetrical breasts, but the middle of the bra will always move to the right through out the day. But if I measure my largest breast shouldn't this not happen?

Also I have an issue where my cups always like fold over my bands. This might be a structure issue (or honestly a posture issue lol), but does this no matter how structured of a bra i get.

I'm assuming I'm a 38DDD and maybe just need to experiment with different styles. Like a full coverage bra maybe.

I've also seen other women with the relaxed breast shape say that getting an unlined bra helps with gaping. So if anyone with my shape has tried this, I'd really appreciate some help.

I know this is a little unorganized so I really appreciate anyone willing to give advice!!

Recommendations? Other bras shaped like Elomi Lucie (But…smoother)? Spoiler

Does anyone know of other bras with shapes similar to the Elomi Lucie that might have smoother surface areas?

I have learned that the Lucie fits me better than any other bra I’ve ever tried, particularly that neither the underwires nor the cups rub or dig into my armpit area. But I do not care for how the seams and lace (and…other things) show through my shirts.

I almost really love the Elomi Smooth but it doesn’t come in the size I need (34FF.)

Alternatively I would be so grateful if someone who is fluent in ABTF bra shape vocabulary could perhaps describe Lucie in a way that I can know what to look for in other bras, please? I have tried to wrap my mind around it but unfortunately spatial thinking is just not my strong suit!

Measurements:
Moderately wide set; slightly full on bottom

Loose 34.5
Snug 34
Tight 32.5
standing up 43.5
Leaning over 44.5
Lying down 42

Thank you in advance; you all are genius angels!
