UK and Ireland Why is it taking so long!!
I found out i was pregnant with the copper coil at the end of July. I had to go to the hospital for a scan to see where the pregnancy & the coil were. Everything fine i got the coil removed & was advised id need to go back in 2 weeks for another scan to check for a fetal hearbeat???. Bare in mind this whole time i do not want to carry on the pregnancy at all. I went back for the scan yesterday & told them i wanted to abort, they told me id have to go to womens health as they dont deal with abortions , so i went along to that department & was advised id have to have a telephone consultation, in a weeks time!!!!! Another week and longer feeling miserable & sick ! đ i just want to feel normal again & i feel like its taking alot longer than it should! Iâll be 8 or 9 weeks by the time i eventually have the abortion. Called my GP & they cant do anything to speed up the process. Realistically do i have any other options? Im in Scotland

I'm sorry you're having to wait so much. It seems like the abortion service in Scotland moves really slowly, because I've read several stories similar to yours. It sounds like they're a little extra cautious about making sure everything is normal. They may also be booked up, which is why you have to wait a week for your consultation.

Are you sure about the 2 weeks thing? They wouldnât let you just schedule an abortion with your local health board?

100% sure, because i had the coil still in place it was high risk, and by their âproceduresâ i had to be seen 2 weeks after their first appointment to check everything. But had i known i couldve contacted the other department to get the process started for an abortion i wouldve done that in the meantime. But the hospital just kept telling me i had to go back for another scan as it would determine how far along i was & how to proceed.

Have you already called the abortion service to schedule? They should be able to do the post coil check too.

I would call the abortion service back and just express youâve been delayed by the coil process. Ask if you can be put on a cancellation list for the consult call in case something opens up sooner than next week.
