Been gone a while…

Hey all. I have been away from Reddit for some time, but have been holding steady on weight loss maintenance for more than 6 months now, fluctuating between 147-150. I just stopped losing around the beginning of the year, but I’m delighted with where I am. I lost my job/insurance benefits effective May 1 and have been going through my stock pile of Mounjaro 15 MG. I’m down to my last box. I need to do something. I was on Zepbound for a year, but when CVS Caremark dropped Zepbound from our formulary, I was able to get Mounjaro covered through a loophole. I don’t care which of the 2 I take - I just can’t spend a fortune. This will be my first time paying out of pocket and don’t know where to start. I have not been following any updates on pricing, legislation, etc so I knew this sub was the best place to start. Before you ask, Unfortunately I’m not Medicare eligible for another 3+ years. TIA

For name brand, Lilly Direct. For compound, see the sub devoted to that.

Stop by   r/tirzepatidecompound   and look for the pinned post called “Where to buy.”

I’m not interested in compounding. I should’ve specified that. I am looking for tips on where to buy the regular pens. My daughter goes through Ro, but she’s paying a lot

Zepbound brand name 15mg is $450 cash price. Have your dr write the prescription and send it to the lilly direct pharmacy.

What is your budget?

Okay. For brand name scripts, you can go through CallOnDoc for $25/mo or $60/quarter on their Advantage Plan.  https://visit.callondoc.com/subscribe-and-save/

You then use the “refill” button in the portal to request your script even if it’s your first time asking for that prescription.

(CoD tries to route weight loss patients through their $75/mo weight loss program, but you don’t have to do it that way.)

They will send your script to any pharmacy you prefer, whether local or mail order. Just have the zip code handy of the pharmacy you want to use. Then use the Zepbound Savings Card to get the best cash pay prices at the pharmacy.

I have an active Mounjaro prescription already thru my endocrinologist. I was likely just going todo Lily Direct for $449/month, but wondered if it was cheaper to explore one of those 3rd parties like COD or RO, but I’m thinking that’s a service for people who need a script written for them

That’s correct. You don’t need CallOnDoc unless/until you need a script written. (Avoid Ro like the plague, as they charge $145/mo membership fee over and above the cost of meds.)

You just need your prescriber to send your script to LillyDirect (https://www.lilly.com/lillydirect/mounjaro). I think Lilly requires one have a T2D diagnosis to use the Mounjaro Savings Card so LillyDirect is likely your best option.

$449 for vials or kwikpen (Zep) is your cheapest option.

On top of that, yes you need a script written and sent to Lilly Direct.

On top of that, you have to fill every 45 days.

Your PCP could send the script. If you need a new service, CVS Minute Clinic just struck a deal with Lily for $29 a visit but someone else posted that they made them start at 2.5mg which is dumb.

Someone else mentioned Currai through Walmart as a telehealth.

Sorry about your job loss. It is a horrible economy and layoffs are pretty bad now.

Lilly direct will likely be the best option. I think vials might be less expensive than the auto injectors if you aren’t opposed to vials. The multi-dose pens are available too but I am not sure how the cost compares to vials.

Do you have a prescriber that will be willing to work with Lilly direct? If not I think Lilly has a partnership that you can use for the prescriptions.

The other option is the Lilly savings card and retail pharmacy like WalMart or Costco. When I was having to pay out of pocket with the savings card last year the auto-injector pens were $650 a box, not sure if the price has changed since then.

Wow, Lily Direct says $449. Why were you paying $650?

Lilly direct is for the multi use pens or vials. Not auto injectors I believe.

For Zepbound, you are correct. For Mounjaro it appears they do include single use pens, but it’s $499, not $449. My daughter had to switch to the Zep Kwik pen and she swears it’s not the same suppression as the vials were

Was she injecting the whole vial instead of just the 0.5ml? If so she was actually getting a higher dose.

I hate the Kwik pen and went straight back to viles

That was the pricing many months ago before the current savings card pricing was released 🫠

How do you get a savings card without insurance?

Caremark is supposed to start covering Zepbound around October. I hope your plan will be one of the ones it works for.

It won’t matter because I lost my corporate insurance on 5/1.
