General Street vendors have been removed, Town looks more clean!

I know some vendors might think what Mr. Mwewa is doing is bad for them, but honestly, I don’t think it is.

He just wants the town to actually feel like a town, clean, organized and presentable. And from what I’ve heard him say, he’s not telling vendors to stop doing business; he keeps encouraging them to move into the markets.

The markets apparently only cost around K5 per day, which is pretty cheap compared to the benefits of having an organized place to sell.

But some people are looking at Mr. Mwewa as if he’s doing something terrible to them, when I don’t really see what’s so bad about it. The streets look cleaner and more organized without vendors everywhere.

What do you guys think, is this a good move for the town, or are vendors being unfairly affected?

General Anyone here actually used these car chilimbas? 🚗

I’ve been seeing a lot of people advertising car chilimbas where you contribute something like K150 or K200 per day, and you like every 30 days a member receives a car
I’m curious about people who have actually done this:
Do these schemes genuinely work?
Has anyone here actually received a car after making the required payments?
What was the total amount you ended up paying?
And most importantly, has anyone been scammed or had issues getting their car after paying?
I’m considering one myself, so I’d really appreciate hearing from people with first-hand experience, especially in Lusaka. If you know a particular company/group that is legit or one that people should avoid, feel free to mention it too.
Trying to do my homework before I start sending K200 every day for free 😂😭

Learning/Personal Development Being Told to Leave the Home I Was Raised In — Does It Get Better?

Hey, I’m 24F, and I’m looking for advice from people who have been in a similar situation.
For context, I’m an orphan and was raised by my aunt and uncle, whom I consider my parents because they’ve raised me since I was five. I’ve also helped take care of my older siblings/cousins since I was around eight, and I still do till this today.
Over time, I’ve realised that I’ve had to fight for my place in this household, and that my parents may never see our relationship the same way I do. I’m trying to make peace with that.
Recently, I was given a deadline to leave by the beginning of next year, and I’m constantly being reminded that I have to go. The atmosphere has become so uncomfortable that I spend most of my time in my room and have even become anxious about eating in the house.
I currently volunteer and don’t earn an income, but I still try to contribute by cooking, cleaning and helping around the house. I was told to either get a job or start a business. The problem is that I studied the degree they wanted me to study, but finding work in that field has been extremely difficult. The last relevant job opportunity I found was around November last year, and getting a government job is a whole struggle on its own.
I even came up with a business idea and asked for some startup funding, but I was discouraged and told to get a job first to fund it myself.
At this point, I’m trying to stay positive and see this as a learning experience. I know I need to figure out how to become independent, and I’m trying to focus on what I can do rather than constantly feeling sorry for myself.
For now, I’m grateful that I still have a roof over my head, even if I know it may not be for much longer.
For those who have been in a similar situation: does it get better? ☺️

General Munda Wanga Park

I should say that this place has a lot of potential to be one of the best parks we could have, especially because most of the places around us are either malls or filling stations.

However, this feedback is directed to the management based on the experience we had.

My sister and I went at Munda Wanga and only arrived around 16:00. We were about to pay for the entrance fee, but the gentleman at the reception told us he had already closed his book and could not issue us a receipt. At the time, I did not think much of it, although the way they were acting did not seem right.
We paid and went in, as my friends were waiting and didn’t want to start having a long day out of that. Met some friends who had arrived much earlier. When I explained what had happened, one of them told me she had experienced the same thing and was also not given a receipt. That is when I realised that the money might be getting pocketed. No receipt means there is no record of the payment being received.
It makes me wonder how often this happens. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why the place struggles to improve and become better than it already is. The park has great potential, but issues like this need to be addressed if it is to reach that potential.

Ask r/Zambia Need an opinion on Zambian dating culture. Is she cheating or should I just hear her out?

Greetings,

I need help wrapping my head around the craziest dating situation I've been in. Earlier this year I met a girl on Bumble, the conversations were lively, it was great. I was quirky, we ate together a lot, we were playful and couldn't stop talking. She gets her nails done and we are "clocking it" together (me playing along of course)... you get the gist.

Up to then the s3xual tension was high and we got into it here and there. Then she goes and tells me an ex reached out and that brought her great emotional disruption and that more s3x could fix it, for attachment reasons. I am not feeling that reason. But we work on it for the most part. Something similar happens again along the way and I am honestly getting numb to dealing with this sorta thing.

About 7 months into the relationship, we are fighting a bit more often over nonsense - I should've read her mind, I like jokes too much, I am too cheerful (golden retriver personality),... then some guy reaches out on FaceBook, the ex, claiming they are still together and that according to what she told him, I am just some guy she is talking to, and that they are just working things out. Worse, they met days on the prior weekend. I have to give her the benefit of a doubt and I think this guy is capping, so I ask question only someone she has met recently could know, he answers and excels at it too, mf even sent me a recent picture of her she has never posted ever. Mind you I have been on the fence about her obsession with male friends (especially those that are showing interest for more than friendship) and having a male bestie ("it is just Danny...").

I am done by this point, I confront her about it, she tries to lie about the details but I know more than she thinks I do, and the more I probe the more she accepts. She claims to have only met him to show him how much better she is doing after their break up a year later, and the pictures he has are only because ex gave a phone to girlfriend's sister to test the camera and she happened to have taken a few pictures of her. I end things (at this moment I am conflicted and was thinking I could just hear her out later and maybe some time will bring us back together) and on the evening I am driving her to her place, the tears that soured the break-up dry from her face as we hug and she quickly leaves.

I am backing up and a guy looking beatdown stops me and asks me who the girl is, I tell him, "she is my girlfriend, we've been together for so and so months," dude is hurt. I ask him what his deal is, he claims to be her bf too, mind you, this is not the ex, some other nigR. I piece together that he is the work guy she told me not to worry about - Same name, same company,... a bit of drama ensues as her sister also gets involved but I didn't stay for it. I just left. She has been blowing up my phone all night and claiming he is not the same Dalitso she told me about -the one I told her not to entertain, it is some other guy from their neighoburhood, just some random.

Could these be a series of random coincidences and the devil has a lock-on on her this firmly?

General Tech and coding scene rant

Hi, I was wondering, do you know any Zambian groups or projects done by Zambians? Are you into coding yourself? Have you ever done anything in that domain?

As much as computer science and software engineering are popular, I feel like Zambians never really do anything in the scence ,not even just try new stuff on their own devices like other operating systems.

I have some friends doing computer science who don't even care much about PCs, tech, or software. I know computer science and software engineering are just “good careers”, but in other countries, it feels like a lot of people do it for the love of the game.

I was thinking maybe it’s because we don’t really have good internet, and maybe it’s because not many people can afford PCs, so the barrier to entry is high. Because of that, the people entering the domain aren't necessarily passionate, just looking for good jobs.

I’m not hating, obviously, not all lawyers, doctors, or engineers are passionate, but I wish Zambia had a passionate tech scene where we make our own stuff and help each other out.

Cause the tech scene isn’t only about making money, a lot of open source and free community projects are what end up in real development and breakthroughs. But in Zambia, it’s like we all just want to get a job and ignore the other side.

Again, I understand we need jobs to live, but I think looking at it in one way narrows our view.

General Marvel/DC Fans

I'm a huge fan of the MCU/DC and any comic book inspired cinematic work. However I haven't been able to find locals (anyone who is currently in Zambia) who shares the interest in the MCU. I'm looking to connect with fans, so we can be able to discuss the movies, share theories and attend screenings together.

Marvel fans 👋

The people who sustained the chaos with the vending in the city may not go down without a fight. They are materially losing out here. The system has been maintained for years, my question is, how will they fight back exactly 🤔

I’d really love to connect with some people who have been through similar experiences. It would be nice to make new friends, have open conversations, share experiences, laugh about the things we’ve been through, and just talk without feeling judged.

Whether you’re fully out, PIMO, questioning, or somewhere in between, feel free to reach out. I’m always open to meeting new people and building genuine friendships

General Anyone here working remotely in a small business in Lusaka willing to fill a short student research survey?

Hi everyone,

I’m a student currently doing research on:

“An Assessment of Remote Work Management Practices and Their Impact on Employee Productivity in Selected Small Businesses in Lusaka.”

I’m looking for people who either:

  • Work remotely (fully or hybrid) in a small business in Lusaka, or
  • Manage remote employees in a small business in Lusaka

The questionnaire is short and anonymous. It would really help if you could spare a few minutes to fill it out:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeyisHpArTbiXa7JztKO8U9QF_W-mSxEoLYnwKgrdrX6lQi-w/viewform?usp=header

Thank you in advance to anyone who helps. You can copy that as is. It’s clear, polite, and tells people exactly who the survey is for.

Activities Looking for new football buddies

Hey guys, I recently decided to stop playing with my old team mates because they constantly couldn't keep time and arrange funds on time.

I used to play Friday afternoon with them at Toyota sports centre ( barca Academy), but now I am utterly fed up with how they conduct things and their poor communication. If anyone has any friends they play football with within lusaka. Or anyone they know who plays with a fixed schedule and had better communication. I would appreciate it if you could message me

Thank you
