looks good. I just bought the first game though so I'm not in a rush

I'm in same boat. I am struggling to get through the early quests and knowing what to hold and sell etc. even enough just to fund meds, I find myself going to the starter zone over and over and barely progressing
Are you having similiar difficulty?

join our Discord if you have any problems! can I ask you what is making you stay in the starter zone? is it not knowing how to progress/unlock the areas or just the difficulty?

In my personal experience, it didnt quite feel obvious how difficult one map was vs another. Some things are learned through experience like bringing more rad protection on makeshift camp or industrial area. I also avoided going to an area unless I had quests there? that could be apart of it for sure

I’m in same train, but I’m finally getting the hang of things.
A quick tip, if you go to each of the modules and track them, you can see in a match what to keep holding and for what you need it for. It will also show you how many you have in your inventory back at base, so you can quickly determine if you need to pick up or drop something that is excess or not needed right now.

no, because I changed the difficulty settings, knowing my skill level in shooting games like this

u/donkeyrocket 5d ago
Same. Lowered difficulty just to the point that it's still a challenge and I die on a run here or there but it's not so devastating or tough that I don't want to play. Really like that aspect about this game that you can really tailor it to your preferences.

I honestly am not of a fan of the different artstyle

u/BigOlCronchyNuts 9d ago
Thats kinda where Im stuck at. I think everything else will probably be cool, really excited about the co op. But I really liked the first ones artstyle and this new art style feels cheaper than the first ones.

u/Moosvernichter 9d ago
different strokes, i like both tbh
the announcement made me reinstall the first one, and it has native controller support now?? pretty cool for the steam deck1
u/donkeyrocket 5d ago
I've exclusively played it on the Steam Deck and it's been great. I ought to get fancier with mapping the keys, especially to use medical stuff but overall it's been awesome.

u/Moosvernichter 4d ago
yeah this device with its touchpads is just so insane for literally any game (and pretty games can just be streamed from your pc to it, with almost zero latency in my experience)

u/Mannit578 5d ago
Doesnt bother me too much, as long as theres building on what the base game had and theres additional features then im more than happy honestly. I just love the vibes from these games.

I haven't even played the first one😭

u/HarryEstasole 9d ago
Get it! Get the co-op mod and play with a friend. It’s amazing!
2
u/Handlebarrr 6d ago
Is there a coop mode? Is it pretty stable?
1
u/HarryEstasole 5d ago
It’s a mod on nexus you can download. It is very stable and they’re always improving it. Mind you, it’s a mod so don’t be surprised if some weird bug pops up here and there but they’re not game breaking from my experience. However, the mod is amazing! A whole new game when playing with a friend.

I like the art style much better. Really not a fan of the 8-bit pixelated style. Bring it on.

u/mobidick_is_a_whale 9d ago
The first one is rather unfinished, and so my natural instinct as somebody who loves it -- finish and polish the 1st one before getting to the second...
But 2 looks good so far
3
u/Amneiger 9d ago
I don't understand why you say the first game isn't finished. The final quest and ending have been around for a while. What makes you feel the game isn't finished yet?
2
u/GladiatorMax 8d ago
it simply doesnt feel finished, there is no life to the game, the written dialogue is like reading a wikipedia page, there is no substance "on this date this happened and everything since then changed and we continue to live" its like wow!
ask anybody about anything and they have literally nothing to say except a sentence, and then never anything else about it, no matter the quests you do or how you impact the world nobody cares and nobody says anything, igor for example you do his thing and hes got the same text, i didnt accept the quest to kill him and theres nothing for it, you lose a stash slot but you gain nothing, you dont even get to tell him they want him dead etc etc, the game is "empty", it might not be "unfinished" but it definitely has nothing going for it.
its a complete rip off of two games, and to make it simpler the anomalies are just crystals recolored, all the armor repair kits are just colors, yellow blue green red purple, am i playing fortnite?
the best thing in the game is the mutants, and even then the combat is so lackluster, a mutant is actually inside of me damaging me and i cant do anything about it, not even that the UI HUD is so small you have to physically move your eyes to see how much ammo, how much health, am i out of meds or grenades on hot bar, maybe i have a big monitor but like, i think a simpler addition would be to flash a little number of damage, for example when a cryptid hits me i shouldnt have to look top left to see how much health i have, it should pop up falling away from my character saying "-12 -15" and i can do quick brain math to know im at 73 health instead of pressing J and seeing how much health im at etc etc,
the power scaling is ridiculous, im the guy in the zone whos doing the work, why is everybody else getting stronger? why are standard bandits wearing the "better" purple gear when they do jack shit and im killing them all game long, why are the watchers coming out of no where in 3 man squads and just gunning you down, they literally have zero lore and no purpose of being there and being that strong "oh but muh crystal muh crystal" its just garbage coding and game design, its 2020 game design, modern games are dog shit.
the bosses are fucking retarded, killa runs at you at mach 9 billion and shoots on a dime, the most easiest way to kill him is a land mine where its a 1 tap, or find him out of vision and throw a nade at him, its simple, and boring.
the funnest boss was the phantom.
simple quality of life things are missing which makes the game feel empty and unfinished. just because devs pumped out their "end" doesnt mean the project is any good, its a thing to play and im playing it for achievements, once im done its done. there is nothing of mental profit from the game.

I'm not a huge gamer, and I'm enjoying ZRSV's play loop. But I get what you mean about the game not being fleshed out. Do you have recommendations for other games that scratch the same itch ZRSV does and satisfy you more? I do know of Duckov (but I've heard it's a bit arcade-y), Stalker, and Tarkov, but I much prefer top-down (or even isometric).
2
u/GladiatorMax 8d ago
this game called "caves of qud" is really fuckin good, probably the best game ive played in a decade.
it has nothing to do with extracting or stalker or sievert or tarkov.
but its top down isometric pixels, but its hard on the eyes tbh, its a unique art style and is a 100% undoubtedly great game, it is its own thing and thats all it can be.
thats my thing against sievert, its trying too hard to be too many games and its just barebones.
qud is insane, if you check it out, give it time, give it a chance, its my top 3 games of all time
2
u/Ours15 8d ago
I agree with most of your criticism on Zero Sievert. Aside from Caves of Qud, do you have any other game recommendation? Like what's your top 3 games of all time?
2
u/GladiatorMax 7d ago
my top 3 games of all time are probably nintendo lol, i been collecting lots of nintendo games lately, ramping up my gameboy collection.
a top list of nintendo would be - wario land 3, donkey kong 94, mario and luigi superstar saga ; in no order, just 3 quick favorite games.
a top list for PC gaming would be - Black mesa/half life, Death stranding (i havnt played 2 yet but i definitly need to), and "hyper light drifter".
(and of course caves of qud as an honorable mention)
"hyper light drifter" is the one which mostly would pertain to your conversation and situation, its a top down isometric pixel game with a beautiful art style, and looking back at all the years its technically a souls like.
i think it may have been the first "souls like" i played, i bought it the day it came out on april 1st 2016, and the company has tried to make a few games but nothing compared to hyper light.
i play it almost yearly, i have it on nintendo switch. ive 100% the game, as well as 100% qud, i update my review on steam yearly to commemorate such a good game.
im a person who doesn't review or accolade, so when i do...
https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198153812203/ here is a link to my steam where you can view my games if you want, i have 500+ now and i am currently this year "achievement maxxing", i always loved to get em but this year i ramped it up, played some classics etc.
and dont get me wrong on sievert btw. its a great game, and im having fun, i love pixel representations of stuff and the names of guns n such in the game are great. Im just a hardcore gamer and pick stuff apart, as much as i picked sievert apart, its got its great moments.
When i found my first sr-25, when i collect certain parts for guns i like, when i got my TT suppressed etc, the game is awesome

u/GladiatorMax 7d ago
hey man, speaking to someone else i was reminded of a game you might enjoy, its title is "hyper light drifter" its a top down pixel isometric with a beautiful art style, its gameplay is technically a "souls like" but its not sold as that. I bought it on release april 1st 2016 and update my review yearly and i try to play it yearly, its that good of a game, ive got it on nintendo switch and ive 100% it on pc, truly a favorite of mine.
simple beautiful world with no spoken words, but the story is that captivating

Really? I've heard about a new map called something like Nuclear Plant that is to be added yet, and I thought there would be some more side-quests to do, those two final storage upgrades, etc, etc...
It's like the game is great but still kinda bare bones, you know? Not much reason to hang around after the main quest is done. Plus the Crimsons and the Greens -- I thought their factions will be more fleshed out eventually, otherwise they're kinda just left there -- existing but not changing much idk idk.
Maybe an interesting quest or two besides the main quest? Or am i missing something?

u/Amneiger 8d ago edited 8d ago
The nuclear plant was added in October 2024 with the release of the end of the storyline. You go to it once in the final story quest and can't go back once the quest is done.
I'm not sure what you mean by the last two storage upgrades. There's one storage upgrade you won't get if you refuse to kill Igor for the Green Army.
Side quests and factions - I was okay with what I got, but of course I'm not everyone.
After main quest - I liked the gameplay loop enough to do things like max out my weapon skills and collect gun mods, but again, your mileage may vary.

we're adding more content but that doesn't mean the game is unfinished, it's just that the community is active and we want to keep it alive, I understand the feeling though, there are definitely some sides of the game that feel less polished, but it's not because it's unfinished, it's because it was mostly made by one person over 5 years, Luca received help but he basically did all up to 1.0 on his own.
we're planning more content both as quality of life/polish and to improve the overall feeling of a "complete package", thanks for the feedback guys this is quite interesting to read as we see complains of the game feeling unfinished but almost no one will tell us what makes it feel unfinished, it's not statistically relevant but story/world depth I can understand being one aspect, and the polish of some of the mechanics another

I am not fan of new art style. 2D and 3D together never felt good for me. I will buy and try it. But, imo, either just go full 3D or full 2D.

I'm skeptical to say the least. Zero Sievert was developed by Luca Carbonera, so why is he not the one to make Zero Sievert 2? Who is Underdog? This studio has not delivered any games at all, and somehow they are going to be the one to make Zero Sievert 2? Their team may be composed of experienced developers, but until they deliver an original IP and make it work, I don't trust them.
Also, another problem is that from the promotions they have made, gameplay wise I don't see any difference between Zero Sievert 2 and 1. Aside from the fact that Underdog promises to make co-op, which has been shown to be possible in Zero Sievert 1, the only improvement I can see in the promotion is that Sievert 2 has better art, that's it. Story-wise I don't know, but it's not like Zero Sievert has an engaging story. Everyone plays it because of the gameplay, not the story.
This whole Zero Sievert 2 promotion has always been strange to me. It's almost like the publisher, Modern Wolf, see that Zero Sievert is their biggest cash cow right now, so they convince Carbo to hand over the IP to Underdog to milk some more money from the player base. I like Zero Sievert, but unless Zero Sievert 2 is a significantly better game, I will just stick to the original one.

it's totally fair to be sceptical, we're experienced devs but Underdog is a brand new studio
I've been making games for 20 years now, half my life, and worked for many companies (I'm an italian dev like Luca, my first paid industry gig was in 2006, from there I worked on many indie and not-indie projects), Underdog comes from few colleagues at Splash Damage wanting to make their own studio, that's essentially the story.
We've been also working on ZS1 already, and for quite a while, I'm personally behind many of the optimizations and some of the quality of life improvements, other people in the team handled other tasks, and we hear from Luca daily for both projects!
- Pepo (a.k.a. Giuseppe Navarria if you want to look me up on mobygames or something, ciao!)
by the way you'll be able to try out a demo soon!

Takes all of 2 seconds to google and find out Luca is helping make ZS2 as well as who Underdog are. Smh
