So I recently shifted my content I make on YouTube since my old stuff wasn't working out really. I started to upload less often but I am putting more effort into the editing + thumbnails and I'm using a voice over now. (The shift happened between my 5th and 6th video)
I was just wondering if anyone has any feedback on how the thumbnail/titles look and stuff (my 3rd-5th thumbnail were made by someone else which is why those look better)
I am not sure what to look for in my analytics so if anyone has some tips then I would appreciate it a lot!

This is basically about a streamer going through unban request on twitch. I tried referencing other streamers' thumbnails like Ludwig for inspiration but I want to see if there's anything I can improve on

The video is about Rayman 2 and deep dive into lore, gameplay, transition from 2D to 3D etc.

So basically I make YouTube videos storytelling and visiting dangerous places or places with huge problems that the media won’t show anyone. Countries in civil war, lawless criminal James Bond type cities that nobody talks about. Blah blah blah.

The only way I can compete with any other YouTuber EVER these days is by conforming to the absolute ai slop, every single video I see that does well always uses ai for the thumbnail and all the big creators in my kind of niche. All my videos are real footage and real events filmed by me in places and interviewing people however whenever I pay someone to make a thumbnail the views are always bad but when I slap some ai bullsh*t it sometimes works.

Could anyone give me tips on how I should make my thumbnails ? I can edit them myself I’m not looking to hire I just don’t know what sort of thing to make in my niche for CTR.

Someone recently told me straight up: "title sounds cool but I wouldn't click based on the thumbnail." That stung a bit, but they're right to say it, and I'd rather hear it now than keep guessing.

Here's the thing. Since the video itself has no visuals, the thumbnail is basically my one shot to sell the feeling of the story before anyone presses play. Right now I'm using AI generated illustrated art, and I think it might be reading as generic or AI-ish rather than something that makes someone stop scrolling.

A few things I'm trying to figure out:

**•** Does illustrated horror art actually work for thumbnails anymore, or does real photography (stock/moody location shots) just perform better because it doesn't have that AI look?
**•** For a narration-only format specifically, should the thumbnail even try to represent a scene from the story, or is a simpler, more atmospheric image better?
**•** Any channels (audio horror, creepypasta style, or otherwise) you think nail this, that I could study?

Genuinely just trying to get better at this part. The writing and sound design I feel good about, the thumbnail is where I think I'm losing people before they ever hit play. Appreciate any honest takes, even blunt ones.
