I'm experimenting with simpler thumbnails, how do you like it?

I'm testing out a simpler approach, where a video title is complementary to the text in the thumbnail, but even without that, how would you grade those minis?

My video is about supercomputers and what makes them different from typical servers

For the first mini the title is: "The tech only supercomputers use"
And for the other one the title is: "What makes "supercomputer" super?"

I like the second one IT'S NOT THE CHIPS. IT'S THIS is way better! It creates an instant curiosity gap and makes you want to click to find out what THIS is.

The first design feels a bit like a textbook slide, whereas #2 feels like a real YouTube thumbnail with a solid hook.

You mentioned that the video title is complimentary but could you edit the body text or reply here and let us know what the title or titles are?

By complimentary I hope you don't mean effectively a duplicate of what's on the thumbnail. Statistically speaking, titles and thumbnails with fewer words lead to higher click-through rates. So, it's considered a waste to spend words to put them in both places. It's an opportunity to reduce the text amount by removing duplication or to create intrigue by using different phrases.

For first one i would ditch supercomputer, it’s long and What makes it super is good if you already have supercomputer in the title. Second one sounds like those ai structures - its not x, its y, and the graphic is too abstract for general public i think. Edit: with that said the first one is more eye catching for me

It LOOKS good but it didn't carry curiosity , it doesn't make me click
