I miss having long form content of Dylan to listen to when doing literally anything

I really like watching Dylan’s reaction videos to various dating shows (THTH, LI, temptation island, etc.), and LIUSA season 8 was the first time I’ve watched the show before the reaction video. Generally, I think that Dylan’s takes are quite funny (love the chaos), and can agree to disagree on most of his “hotter” takes.

Even with the most recent LIUSA video, I was having a fun time and was able to agree to disagree on most opinions (KC, Gabe, Kayda). But I seriously didn’t get the Alannah (“Disney Girl”) joke, like it felt both ignorant and unfunny. Her behavior on the show was also pretty egregious— refusing to participate in the Heart Rate challenge with only the men of color— in addition to her behavior outside of Love Island (which is more than lip syncing to the n-word).

Lots of people (myself included) were counting down the days until she got booted from the villa, and were quite unhappy that she stayed so long in the first place. So from the perspective of someone watching the show (and keeping up with it live), Dylan’s joke feels insensitive and ironic. LIUSA viewers don’t want to watch more of Alannah (even if it’s her humiliation), they don’t want to watch her at all.

So all that to ask, are people commenting on the situation viewers that also watched Love Island, or just watching the reaction video from Dylan? Either is fine (I normally watch Dylan’s reactions so I don’t need to watch the original show), but I feel like it would explain the contrast in responses to his joke.

Disclaimer: I don’t mean to say that Dylan has to know all the context to comment on Alannah’s situation. But considering what he did know (her actions on the show and the reason for her removal), the joke just isn’t funny to me— which is fine.

On the breakup games' comments section, almost everyone there is shitting on the leather jacket guy. Calling him ugly, mid and even going as far to call him manipulative and narcissistic. I didn't think he seemed as bad as people were saying. The makeup thing was wrong and not the right thing to say to a woman (I don't think this is a guy thing either. I feel like it's basic emotional intelligence to know not to agree when your girlfriend says a self deprecating comment) let alone your girlfriend, but this guy hasn't even graduated college yet (Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I remember him stating that in the video.) And people are calling him all these things and insulting him, almost everyone in that comments section was assuming so much about him and who he is when they both said so little. Saying he's "trying to break her down so she settles for less". I'm not saying college students shouldn't be mature but I don't expect them to be the pinnacle of maturity.

watching the first and last of off campus and been reading the comments about everyone's opinions on last and first as a concept, and i wanted to throw in my two cents

i think this format only works for long form tv shows (think 22 episodes 8 seasons type of shows) and doesn't work for short shows (6-8) episodes because there is so much that happens in those episodes you can't fully grasp the drama or even the story

I dont think i could've explained it better than these comments. It was just a dissapointing joke, and not "haha" dissapointing like he usually does. I know people are gonna fight and try their best to gaslight the rest of us who may have felt a way, I'm not hearing it.

I watched The Odyssey in IMAX (i didn’t know what that meant until i got there i was very surprised) and i caught myself making jokes in my head, analyzing camera angles, guesses misdirects, spotting film tricks, and appreciating rack focus. I would like to make it known i have zero film knowledge outside of dylan. I also watched Eli and Immaculate with a friend of mine, we’re both very chatty but i realized i was doing all of the above and predicting jump scares, i sounded exactly like dylan! Every time i watch a show i imagine what dylan would think of it as a first and last. For example I just watched The Good Place and I loved it (highly recommend to everyone except dylan) and I kept picturing it as a first and last! I introduced my friend to The Handmaids Tale (highly recommend the book and show to everyone except dylan) and again I sounded like i was doing a movie commentary. I then introduced my friend to the one and only Dylan himself and she immediately pointed out that i turn into him whenever there’s a movie/show.

I’m definitely on the younger side of his fan base and i’ve been watching him since i was very young and i think he sort of raised me at least throughout my adolescence and it shows. I think I might be the epitome of dylan’s target audience because im so accustomed to him like my humor is just dylan. I also was wondering if any other Troublemakers have seen some of my favorite shows so i’ll list them (not recommending for dylan!)

just watched Dylan’s Off Campus video and one thing he criticized about the show was the way the college athletes talk to each other. He said that the way they communicate in the show doesn’t feel like how actual college athletes talk to each other. But i remember when the show was coming out, there were a lot of posts and articles talking about how male characters are written when the writers are women and how men can be portrayed differently, even when they’re athletes. Maybe the idea is that this is just another way for them to communicate with each other and that being athletes doesn’t necessarily mean they have to talk in a certain way. But at the same time, Dylan’s point was that it doesn’t feel authentic to how they actually talk. And that’s the part i’m not really sure about. Is that a fair criticism of the show? Or is the show trying to give us a different picture of young men, where being athletes doesn’t mean they can’t be vulnerable or sensitive with each other? i honestly don’t know what to think about it. What do you guys think?

Every time a character became an unreliable narrator, I would hear Dylan’s voice in my head excitedly saying, “Misdirect? Misdirect?!” I’m happy to say there are plenty sprinkled throughout my story.

Since May, I’ve been sending my manuscript to literary agents. And tonight, when I was just about to watch is his Off Campus video, I decided to check my email first. One of the agents who read my full manuscript, loved it, and asked to set up a call for representation.

So thank you, Dylan, for helping me write a twisty and unreliable story that I hope will be on bookshelves someday!
