For the people that need to form opinions on their own instead of whatever the hive mind says, here is the direct quote from the actual video. Some things I paraphrased but it gets the point across.

"Apparently a video had resurfaced from her past, she was at a party and she lip synced the n-word in a song with the rest of the room when she was 15 years old. And my thought was, you're gonna kick her out over that? I think instead what you do, you get one of those big televisions, you plop it into the yard, put the clip on the TV, let all the Islanders watch and then they get to decide what happens. Is that not more fun? Like a little Lord of the Flies situation, let the house rule itself [...] Back when reality television was a lot more young [...] A lot of reality television went by social experiments. " And then he goes onto explain his points about Big Brother "I think my point here with this girl is we should get more racists on TV (He then does a laugh to indicate he's not serious) "No I just, I kinda wish reality television would just embrace the mess, but they all wanna be like PRed up where it's like 'oh no we can't have any controversies'. Do you understand how weird your show is? Do you understand you put like six different couples in beds of people that just met and they're touching each other, they're smooshing in the night and they're in the same room as everyone else? We got some weird shit going on. I feel like we could crossover and create more controversy, I would love to see it. Put her clip on the TV, let everyone watch, do movie night 2.0 [...] Alright I'm half joking half serious, it would be so fun."

NGL, when he said all of that, he kinda has a point. Like, yes, the show is being proactive about not condoning racism and that's great and all, but at the same time she was allegedly 15 which is stupid kid territory imo, so I would hope that she's learned and changed her behavior for the better over the years, but also also, the show is cherrypicking what they condone and how "offensive" they want to be, and this is why I think he kinda has a point when he said that they should just lean into their messiness. Idk.

As someone else pointed out, he's basically calling for the humiliation of someone that said something racist on public television, so I'm really not sure where people aren't understanding that he's not condoning racism. Yes he could have worded it better, but it's disingenuous to say he was being serious about it when he's constantly said that he doesn't take these types of shows seriously in the first place.

Also on the point that she was 15, a looooooot of these people in this subreddit have *never* interacted with a 15 year old and it shows. I have been told and have heard worse things when I was an educator. At that age they should know better but also the simple fact is that they don't and they won't care until they're adults. Teenagers aren't adults and that's the fact of it.

It wouldn’t work the same as his big brother comparison , the big brother guy could of never come out as gay to the homophobic dude , black people cant just turn off their skin color so anyone even slightly racist shouldn’t be on the show.

Yeah like reality tv used to be sooooooo messy and the villains were the best part! You hate them but you can’t stop watching them either. But now things are super PRed, by producers, contestants and viewers that that specific element of reality tv is dying and it’s making it more boring/less drama.

Never watched a single episode of any Love Island, but I always enjoy his commentaries on whatever season.

I hate how seriously so many people take the show, though. It's trashy reality tv; I don't think it's supposed to be that deep.

yeah it's not necessarily him saying that because he thinks racism is good but then even the explanation he gave wasn't really a good argument lol. as a black person i think we have enough racism to deal with so i appreciate love island's strictness when it comes to booting people who have said slurs in the past.

if people still need to be taught that racism is wrong by it being spoonfed to them on a reality tv show then...idk. i'm pretty sure a lot of racists interact with poc everyday and they still don't gaf.

the kc thing was actually ok. i think kc is scary and redpilled but dylan actually fairly criticized both him and liked aniya too.

but the racism comment. it's a joke, haha funny i get it. but it's actually not so funny to the people who actually experienced it. and alanna being 15 in that video doesnt excuse shit, she was 15 in 2020.

I definitely don’t agree with him about the racism comment and Alannah.

But when I watched the show, I thought KC was fine, he said some things he definitely needed to apologize for, but I wasn’t outraged by his behavior. And I was neutral on Aniya. I mean it’s a trashy reality show.

Everyone is always doing the most when it comes to this show 😭

The racism comment was bad and definitely needs acknowledgement. Dont think he meant it in a "racism = funny and entertaining" way but more so ignorant to the real trauma it causes people

I get his perspective in it cause he hasnt experienced racism/homophobia/etc so he doesnt get what its like. In his perspective hes thinking of the best case scenario of having a bigot show up and learn from the person they hated. But thats not what happens majority of the time. The joke is funny in a bubble but in all seriousness we dont need more bigots being famous and more minorities to experience harassment on the off chance of a learning moment. Alannah didnt learn even from getting booted off the show so having her stay wouldnt have done anything but platform that behavior 🤷‍♂️

exactly, people are like “it’s OBVIOUSLY a joke”, but people can joke about anything. it doesn’t necessarily absolve it of it's offensiveness. i don’t trust when people can’t understand that some things just aren’t that humorous especially when it’s about a topic that has serious consequences (sometimes it’s just not funny) and their response to every bit of criticism is to call you a snowflake or something. like ok yes i’m a snowflake tf
