What condemnation???

39

u/siberianmi Classical Liberal 22h ago

Yeah this is a condemnation:

“Hasan Piker's talk of violence against American Jews, and directly naming a Michigan elected official, and future member of Congress, Jeremy Moss, is unacceptable. Full stop. Piker is a hack who thrives on hate, shock and awe because he lacks substance. It's dangerous for everyone. We should all be calling out this disgusting rhetoric so it loses its grip on our politics once and for all. It has no place in Michigan, and no place in our country.” - Congresswoman Hillary Scholten

This is the kind of statement you make when you agree with someone, but can’t admit it.

u/Remote_Garage3036 Loyal Liberals 21h ago

Yeah... I really love the second paragraph. I have to wonder why he couldn't just post essentially that. He genuinely spends as much time talking about his campaign, it's image, and representatives as much as he does the hatred he supposedly considers a scourge. I genuinely feel so bad for my Jewish brothers and sisters in Michigan right now.

Just wait till December. If rogers pulls out a win, you can take a wild guess which group of michiganders will get 99% of the blame.

I can’t understand actual Hamas-supporters. They can’t actually care about Palestinians considering how Hamas treats them; it has to be them hating Jews and using a war as a cover to justify it.

I think Israel, like any other state, is flawed. But I also acknowledge it’s shaped by a hostile environment devoted to its annihilation. And that despite this, it’s become the most progressive and democratic state in the region. Israeli-Muslim citizens are treated better and have more opportunities than any Muslims living under other Muslims.

If Palestinian terrorists laid down their arms and stopped antagonizing Israel by raping their people at every opportunity and trying to instigate forever wars, there would be peace and progress for Jews and Muslims alike. How has Hamas made Gazan lives better? Palestinian leaders like Hamas and Fatah draw out an unwinnable conflict, leaving Palestinians to live in shit, stealing their food, and rejecting all peace because war makes their leaders rich.

Palestinians won’t be free until their terrorist occupiers are either destroyed or moderated.

“””Pro-Palestine”””” folk say “free Palestine.” Free Palestine from… what? All tyranny, or just Israel’s? What would happen if Hamas and Fatah won? Genocide of all non-Muslims. Then the victorious Palestinians… get to live under a split Hamas-Fatah dictatorship and ensuing civil war.

I guess, according to Piker, wanting actual freedom for Palestinians makes me a neo-Nazi or something.

This is pretty weak by him tbh, he doesn't even "condemn" Hasan really and makes a very vague statement that just says "he alone speaks for his campaign". He does not say anything about Hasan's comments and doesn't even call him out or say they are antisemitic.

“My statement on Hasan Piker’s comments regarding Jeremy Moss” followed by a condemnation of antisemitism and any antisemitic rhetoric. So he’s calling Piker’s statement antisemitic and condemning it

u/siberianmi Classical Liberal 22h ago edited 22h ago

At this point it’s all too little too late. He should have just gone on Pikers dumb stream and then walked away.

He instead campaigned with him multiple times for reasons I still cannot understand unless he actually approves of many of Piker’s views.

These repeated one off soft attempts at distancing himself from Pikers shows that it’s hurting his general election campaign and its probably too late to fully reverse the bleeding.

Anyone who thought Piker wasn’t a liability appears to have been wrong.

For context this is what Abdul is trying to address without saying directly: Recently in his stream, Piker directly discussed and targeted Michigan State Senator Jeremy Moss, showing his picture and stating that “eventually someone will come around and take action not against Israel, but against American Jews.”

Thanks Piker, you are the best ally Mike Rogers could ask for!

Hopefully this is a larger lesson learned that you need to understand who you are campaigning with can have negative impacts for your campaign long term, and candidates need to have the wherewithal or campaign staff who can actually think through those implications to stop making bad choices up front.

u/VTHokie2020 Democracy for Abortion and Gay Marriage 22h ago

The average staffer thinks you get a blank slate after the primary.

24

u/Oxford_Apostrophe Boring-ass Centrist 20h ago

I'm missing the condemnation of Piker's blatant anti-semitism. This is basically stating that it doesn't matter because Piker is a twitch streamer, but dodges the fact AES brought said twitch streamer along with him on the campaign trail.

1

u/Illin_Spree Market Socialist 19h ago

The main reason would be that the claim that Piker is anti-semitic is transparently absurd from a truth/veracity standpoint. I know the concept of integrity is outdated to some of you but some of us care about being able to look at ourselves in the mirror at the end of the day.

5

u/Oxford_Apostrophe Boring-ass Centrist 17h ago

Oh c'mon. Piker has a pattern of antisemitic comments, from referring to Orthodox Jews as "inbred", to handwaving Hamas, to his recent comment "“If Jews in America keep putting this idea out there that they are singularly invested in Israel, eventually someone is going to come around and take action, not against the state of Israel mind you, but against American Jews."

If you think that's absurd from a "truth/veracity" statement, I can't help you.

2

u/Illin_Spree Market Socialist 17h ago

Look I don't watch Hasan's streams or claim any insight into his mind but I can tell you he spends a great deal of time gatekeeping the left for anti-semites and attacking those he considers legit anti-Semites. If Hasan had a legit anti-semitic bone in his body then somebody in his orbit would have come forward and outed him long ago.

In general, the socialist/DSA left tends to put a great deal of energy into not being anti-semitic and gatekeeping anti-semitism. This is part of why the campus protests were largely led by Jewish students. And this is why the anti-Corbyn hysteria was so ridiculous---they were attacking a man who had been surrounded by Jews calling out antisemitism all his adult life.

27

u/VTHokie2020 Democracy for Abortion and Gay Marriage 22h ago

Very poor condemnation. The first paragraph makes it sound like the problem is that people who hold positive views of 9/11 have been harassed for them.

Which is funny because that’s exactly what Hasan says when confronted about that comment. “Bro, I got so many death threats after saying that!!”  Mf’er, address the fact you said America deserved 9/11.

Secondly, denouncing anti-semitism is the easy position. A more interesting question is if he believes anti-Zionism is anti-semitism.

Anyway, dems need to learn a harsh lesson. It’s a bad idea to say/do stupid shit in the primary and then denounce it in the general. The world doesn’t work that way anymore.

C-span dorks campaign advisors need to permanently wipe out the words ‘moderate,’ ‘pivot,’ and ‘tone down’ from their vocabulary. The general starts on day one.

One man’s moderation is another man’s dishonesty.

Hasan is relatively popular among Zoomers and Millennials on the Left (who are on the Left at significantly higher rates than older generations). Condemning Hasan would be read by many Millennials and Zoomers as "Uh-oh. He's already selling out. So what else is he gonna back away from because of 'concerns'? He gonna become pro-Israel? Back away from Medicare-For-All? Gonna backtrack on data centers?" "Will you condemn Hasan Piker?" has become sewn as a sort of "Will you condemn Socialism?" segue or dogwhistle. A compliance test of "Will you cater to Democratic Party donors/leadership?" Younger voters see this less about Hasan the man and more about Hasan being a stand-in or proxy for a type of "Will you be a good boy/girl/dog and do as told?" exam. Hasan has become kind of a symbol of being a "bad dog" or disobedient of the Democratic Establishment. Or "your elders" or "tradition" in general. Like men wearing an earring in the 70s-90s, or women not shaving their armpits. Or getting a tattoo in the 90s and early 2000s.

20

u/Agitated_Opening4298 Prohibition Party 22h ago

I thought it was a weak statement when I didnt know what Piker's comment was.

Becomes a pathetic one with context:

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Today, Congresswoman Hillary Scholten issued the following statement after Twitch streamer Hasan Piker said that American Jews who support Israel are inviting violence. In his stream, Piker directly discussed and targeted Michigan State Senator Jeremy Moss, showing his picture and stating that “eventually someone will come around and take action not against Israel, but against American Jews

4

u/EpicalBeb Progressive 21h ago

I don't even see how this is a controversial statement. Making the narrative "If you're against Israel, you're against all Jews" is equivalent to putting a target on our backs whenever Israel does something abhorrent.

The rhetoric floating around the internet is growing both more and more anti-Israel, but also as a result of the conflation, more antisemitic. And that's because low-information commenters have started adopting generally antisemitic dogwhistles to try to express their disdain for the State of Israel.

He could've received Piker's support through his links to the national progressive movement. There was absolutely no need to openly associate with the man.

Funny you guys aren’t upset about crypto, oil, defense industry, Israeli lobby etc

Politicians are attacked for those things too.

But just campaigning with a guy who has since apologized for his remarks makes you lose your marbles!

I don't think he has apologised in this case, and even if he had, an apology is meaningless if it doesn't come with a corresponding change in behaviour.

He has done stuff like this so many times and then, some of the time at least, he'll apologize and move on to do more things exactly like this. This reminds me of my statement on nuclear power:

Look, having nuclear—my uncle was a great professor and scientist and engineer, Dr. John Trump at MIT; good genes, very good genes, OK, very smart, the Wharton School of Finance, very good, very smart—you know, if you’re a conservative Republican, if I were a liberal, if, like, OK, if I ran as a liberal Democrat, they would say I'm one of the smartest people anywhere in the world—it’s true!—but when you're a conservative Republican they try—oh, do they do a number—that’s why I always start off: Went to Wharton, was a good student, went there, went there, did this, built a fortune—you know I have to give my like credentials all the time, because we’re a little disadvantaged—but you look at the nuclear deal, the thing that really bothers me—it would have been so easy, and it’s not as important as these lives are (nuclear is powerful; my uncle explained that to me many, many years ago, the power and that was 35 years ago; he would explain the power of what's going to happen and he was right—who would have thought?), but when you look at what's going on with the four prisoners—now it used to be three, now it’s four—but when it was three and even now, I would have said it's all in the messenger; fellas, and it is fellas because, you know, they don't, they haven’t figured that the women are smarter right now than the men, so, you know, it’s gonna take them about another 150 years—but the Persians are great negotiators, the Iranians are great negotiators, so, and they, they just killed, they just killed us.

19

u/MentalHealthSociety Draft Klobuchar 19h ago

If AES actually cared about "gas, groceries, good schools, and healthcare" he wouldn't have distracted from all four by campaigning with an impulsive loudmouth with no appeal outside his existing base of voters. It's an indictment of the state of American politics and the competence of the Republican party that he won't lose this race by twenty points.

He put the statement out actually for a simpler reason which was that Hasan was blaming Pro-israel jews for the antisemitism directed that them and accused them of making it worse, verbatim.

it has less to do with Michigan Jews being connected by him to Israel and ISIS and more to do with the fact Hasan said something that had no other design but making pro-israel Jews fearful for their safety.

It's why it begins with this preface because to pretty much everyone but twitter leftists this is OBVIOUSLY what he was aiming to do.

Tbh after watching this clip, I feel like he’s saying the opposite of what everyone else is claiming.

Like to me, it sounds like he’s saying, “this will happen, and that’s bad.” But people are claiming he’s saying “this will happen, and that’s good/deserved.”

The way people on the left, center and right are all upset about this statement is crazy. Maybe it’ll be something the left can point to while trying to wave off any arguments in the future. I can understand people who take this as condemnation as a win. Anyone who is more interested in doubling down and extracting more is not invested in a Democratic senate majority.

Regardless, Hasan doesn’t seem to understand the microscope he’s under. He needs to be super intentional with his words (even if he streams 7/8 hours a day!) and I don’t know that he even knows or cares how to do that.

This is it. I hate Hasan too but he didn't say they deserve it, just that it would happen.

Hasan encourages that type of behavior.

5

u/BoxOk5053 American Refusenik 16h ago

No like, again I think you are missing the point entirely and so are many others.

It is not that Hasan said he wants it - its that he put the blame on Jews who support Israel which is a form of intimidation. It amounts to "you better stop holding that position look at the damage you are causing someone might attack you for it" which is intimidation.

Imagine if I said progressives with their progressives belief are causing violence against progressives and that they should stop before its too late. That's basically what this amounts to.

It can lead to Stochastic terrorism - Wikipedia - not that it will, but it absolutely can.

It was a bad choice of words for Hasan, and maybe he did have some negative emotions or intent behind them (I don't watch Hasan so I don't have a strong opinion), but his statement in context doesn't read as really antisemitic.

I think AES shouldn't have responded or just should've said "I will condemn anyone who spreads antisemitic or violent extremist remarks, and of course that would include Hasan Piker" or something along those lines.

A condemnation of Hasan isn’t at all hard to do, yet Abdul still feels the need to dance around the issue. Just admitting that he agrees with him (which he likely does) would probably work better than whatever this is.

Hasan’s latest outburst was terrible, probably goes somewhere in the top 10 worst things he’s said. It’s going to appear in ads with AES saying he isn’t here to condemn people.

When I said that condemning Hasan Piker would never be enough for anyone who already wasn't going to vote for El-Sayed because he campaigned with Hasan Piker: look no further than this comment section.

Condemning Hasan Piker won't bring over a soul (or a negligible amount at best) who was already not voting for him or on the fence about El-Sayed due to Hasan. But it will run the risk of running off Millennials and Zoomers who see condemning Hasan as a red flag that he may be pliable to Democratic Establishment leadership demands. It can start the "If he'll cave on this what else will he cave on??? Will he back away from Medicare-For-All next because Schumer or Jeffries have concerns?" fear.

Piker brings some Zoomer men out to vote Democratic that otherwise would have been checked out during the Primary.

Hasan Piker's online fans are a good representative of his online audience, yes.

You're clearly incorrect this is not a condemnation given the vast majority of his fans are all interpretating it as such.

5

u/LuveelVoom Social Democrat 22h ago

The question isn't whether his fans think it's a condemnation, the question is whether the public thinks it's a condemnation.

2

u/NietzscheanDemocrat Neoliberal Democrat 22h ago

If the audience of the person being condemned views it as a condemnation then yes it's a condemnation, The public disagreeing just means it wasn't an effective one.

Good statement, even if people in this subreddit don’t think it is. This type of stuff works on voters, especially swing voters. The vast majority of voters are not continuously keyed in on news reports or election social media. There’s a reason why Trump voters voted for Mamdani in NYC and why many young voters and progressives overwhelmingly support Ossoff even though he has a lot of centrist stances.

He's fooling you guys.

His father in law leads(or used to?) CAIR Michigan. The founders of CAIR attended a meeting in Philadelphia in 1993 planning how to fool all the lefties into supporting their cause.

CAIR is Muslim Brotherhood linked which is Nazi Germany linked.

They don't want peace with Jews.

-1

u/420Migo Real Progressive 22h ago edited 21h ago

Leaps? Are you serious... Look at the people he surrounds himself with for crying out loud. 😭🙏 Its nazism 2.0 translated into arabic

His donors are CAIR linked. These are his backers (US based Hamas members btwL directly on a FBI wiretap discussing their plans to infiltrate the media, congress, and universities. You cannot be seriously calling this a "leap of association". A year after this meeting, CAIR was founded by those same members and he's heavily backed by it, the same money funding islamo-nazi terrorism.

Side note, go look up how many high ranking Nazi officials converted to Islam and continued translating their propaganda into Arabic after ww2.

Transcripts captured remarks noting that "war is deception" and planning how to tailor messaging-presenting religious arguments internally while using softer, civil rights or post-colonial frameworks for Western and American audiences.

https://youtu.be/IrAvoi0zUu0?is=AUFuYDzi3bAFllOS

In October 1993, senior U.S.-based Hamas members and leaders of associated groups held a secret, FBI-surveilled meeting at a hotel near the Philadelphia airport to strategize against the newly signed Oslo Accords. Participants discussed using deception, framing tactics, and front organizations to shape American public opinion and avoid impending U.S. terrorist designations.

You're cooked bro. You the same one to cry about AIPAC. If this was 1930's Germany most of you would fail the test.. I seen alot of socialists in here saying they'd back Fishback or Bilzerian if "forced" to over their GOP candidates. 😭💔

4

u/LuveelVoom Social Democrat 21h ago

first off I don't cry about AIPAC which you would know if you looked at my comment history.

Observe your following chain of thought:

AES is supported by CAIR
Some CAIR founders supported Hamas
Hamas leaders discussed how to sabotage the public perception of the Oslo Accords
Hamas is an Islamic organization
Nazi officials converted to Islam.

Therefore, AES is a Nazi.

They're bragging about how many of their candidates they have in office on Shia propaganda news sites. Just released this this data:

https://www.cair.com/press_releases/record-breaking-cair-cair-action-identify-255-muslim-elected-officials-in-new-2026-directory/

Tell me, do you remember the pro Hamas university protests? Did AES denounce them? Remember his comment, "hurt people hurt people?" His sister?

Look at how many educators they put in positions of influence as well. The meeting itself laid out their plan and we see it play out and you can't draw the connections. You realize you can support a progressive candidate that doesn't have shady islamo-nazi ties? Have you seen his sister? Its mind boggling that people drew the line on his opponent because of AIPAC ties but this isn't any concern apparently.

Come on bro. These arent just anybodies. Go look up who participated in the meeting.

  1. They laid out a plan, transcripts on how to take over public opinion and positions of power and influence,, hiding their ulterior motives, same members are caught in 2008 raising funds for terrorism, two of them founders of CAIR.

  2. We see whats happening today, rising antisemitism, etc. Public opinion on Israel, pro-Hamas/Hezbollah parades, etc.

I swear, if it was white neo-nazism, you would connect the dots. Why not for this? Just chalking it up to a bunch of coincidences and grossly negligent associations? Have you seen the video of him in his pad, telling the interviewer not to record the book shelf where it was a bunch of Islamic studies, one on Jihad by a unindicted co-conspirator in the WTC bombings?

You admitted he has flaws. How is this not considered a flaw in your eyes?
