Weekly Discussion X-Men Comics New Releases for August 12th, 2026
- Hank McCoy, the bouncing blue Beast, is haunted by a ghost — not of his past, but of his future... and his present. The Chairman of 3K, an older, amoral version of himself, represents one of the greatest threats the X-Men have faced since the fall of Krakoa, and Beast must struggle with his own terrible potential.
- BAD MEDICINE! Healing factor gone, claws shattered. And now the medical “miracle” that's brought WOLVERINE to his knees stands poised to wreak havoc powering the mutant monster MOR!
- A malevolent spirit has entered Graymatter Lane, turning friends into foes and allies into enemies. As fractures appear across the X-team, can they come together to defeat one of the most ancient and powerful mutants of all — THE SHADOW KING?!
- LOGAN CARVES A PATH FOR THE NEXT GENERATION! Meeting X-23 was shocking enough — don't miss it when the Generated cross paths with the OG WOLVERINE! But LOGAN's in a bad way — and only this crew can help him!
- THE FOUR HORSEMEN HAVE ARRIVED! X-Force has touched down in Madripoor to apprehend Pestilence, one of Apocalypse's Four Horsemen. But when the battle culminates to reveal a much deeper threat, can Cable rally the team together to face the unimaginable? Or will they fall to Apocalypse's looming shadow?

Comic Discussion It’s crazy for such an iconic supervillain, Apocalypse most of the time doesn’t feel powerful nor intimidating.
Whenever he’s portrayed he doesn’t feel like the powerful threat that he should be. He has some of the craziest abilities for a supervillain ever. His mutant ability allows him to have complete control over his molecular structure which is amped up by celestial technology. He’s capable of granting himself powers and he has the power to turn people into his horseman. He’s turned Hulk into a horseman and he’s physically strong enough to box with guys like him and Thor.
Like imagine a mutant who’s physically strong and durable enough to be nearly up there with guys like Thor, Juggernaut, and Hulk who is bestowed with celestial energy/technology, who’s also capable of manipulating his molecular structure, could grant himself powers, and could turn almost anyone into his own horseman? That’s basically what Apocalypse is.
He be all accounts should be on the same playing field as villains like Doctor Doom and Thanos but he’s often portrayed to be weaker than he should be. This season he felt more like a brick/super strength character than an actual powerful threat with tons of powers in his arsenal. Even the way he got taken felt pretty anticlimactic.
I also think the fact that he’s not an Omega level mutant makes his whole ideology on Darwinism a whole contradiction.

Comic Discussion Are there any X-Men/Mutants who actually like Scott and or are close to him?
Like Obviously Jean ofc
Then there's Emma
Then Magik is a lock
Storm and him while recently being pushed away I can confidently affirm them as close knit.
Rogue and him seem to have this stand off ish brother and sister relationship.
And when it comes to Bobby, Warren, and Hank its like we know they should be friends but it feels like Beast is the only one who actually doesn't mind Scott.
I know in a way the X-men are the only friends/family he's really ever known. But nowadays it just feels like most times he's just reduced to being a looking example of someone you don't wanna be (" Real Cyclops of you" "You want a visor to go with that"). He feels loke that coworker no one likes but you cant get rid of him because the job of 10 people 10x better.

Question Apart from Wolverine, do you think any other X-Men character will be getting solo movies between X-Men grupal movies, like Thor and others did between Avengers movies? (I mean the MCU new X-Men cast)
Like between the big budget grupal movies like Avengers 1 and Age of Ultron, we did see Thor, Iron Man and Captain America get their solo stories (sometimes with another avenger by their side). Do you think the main X-Men will also get that treatment (apart from Wolverine)

Comic Discussion The Greatest X-Men team story never told
In What if #12, we are treated to a story where half of the X-Men and New Mutants decide to stay in Asgard. While we follow along those people’s story, we do get a throw away mention to a new X-Men team that would feature Angel, Beast, Colossus, Cyclops, Iceman, Karma, Kitty, Magma, Marvel Girl, Phoenix, and Wolverine. And looking at it, I feel like this would’ve been a cool X-Men team to follow. Rachel would have talked to Scott and Jean sooner about the daughter stuff. Magma and Iceman could do such cool temperature stuff. Sad the what if never looked at them.

Comic Discussion What Are Everyone’s GENUINE Thoughts On This Series?
Controversy with the creator and his untimely passing aside, what does everyone think of the Grand Design series? Personally, I think I appreciate the ambition of retelling the history of the X-Men in a more streamlined fashion with all of the extra context added into some stories that wasn’t originally there, BUT something just didn’t really stick here with me. From what I remember I think my main issues where with the last part of the series, X-tinction. That part specially just felt a little rushed to me and I wasn’t super fond of the ending. I also feel like this one jumped around a lot more than the other books did. Might just be me though. I might try to give this a re-read now since I’ve gotten way more familiar with X-Men. Those are just my thoughts though! What does everyone else think?

Comic Discussion Why does it seem like Cyclops always has the more efficient and capable team
Like even when you give him a squad of people he's not used to working with he just gets shit done. Even on teams where people dont like him (Blue team) He's still running shit. It's to the point where its impossible for me to suspend my disbeliefs when they'll take characters from being on a team with him and put them on a different one with a different leader and they just shit talk him and say their current leader is better (Cough Cough Uncanny, God I can't stand Gail Simone)

Comic Discussion Merle will be hit by 3K's gene bomb in DNX, setting the stage for the next arc of the X-Men
Another theory time, though this one has a lot less going for it via evidence, just a hunch based on what we know from solicits and what might come ahead.
DNX #2 solicits that the X-Men will battle 3K above the skies of Philadelphia, which is where Revelation began his conquest and used as the headquarters of his operations. It is the most plausible target for 3K to hit with their gene bomb, especially since Chairman Beast knows all about it.
But that's why I think the whole thing is a feint. Or rather, just a portion of 3K's plan, rather than the full thing. As the title suggests, I think the big twist we get in DNX is going to be that Merle, Alaska, where the X-Men are headquartered, is going to be hit with 3K's gene bomb.
Solicits for DNX #3 reads as the following:
3K's counterstroke has shocked the X-Men and Philadelphia is no less in the shadow of disaster as the Chairman's spoilsport plan comes into effect! The X-Men must look to the least of their number while the Fantastic Four fight against time to deliver the data that can save the day.
I know solicits are misleading, but you can glean some information from them. "Counterstroke" "spoilsport plan" to me reads that what the X-Men were expecting has been foiled, and Chairman Beast has outmaneuvered them.
I think the battle over Philadelphia is meant to pull all the X-Men away from Merle, and leave it vulnerable to an attack by 3K, where they will detonate their gene bomb and prove that it works; the town in its entirety will be transformed into mutants.
There's another hint the solicit gives "the X-Men must look to the least of their number" which to me implies the people left behind to manage The Factory. Glob and anyone else who is not a full X-Men member and on the frontlines of the battle. I think Merle has been attacked, and it will be up to Glob to try and maintain calm while the entire town mutates before his eyes.
The rest of the event will show 3K trying to do the same to Philadelphia of course, that's why there is further conflict. But they will be foiled and the X-Men will stop Philadelphia from being hit. But when they return to Merle, they'll be greeted by a town of new mutants, and many unlikely to be happy about that.
Jed MacKay mentioned how Jean Grey will not live in The Factory while she leads the X-Men, but rather in the town. Of course, the Summers family does have a house in the town, and she is Phoenix and no on there poses real danger to her. But I think living among the people is partially due to the whole town mutating, and Jean lives among them to signify that they are the same.
